  1. The first hitch I had on my 87 I fabricated my self and worked great. I may still have it laying around and would be glad to give it to you. But like V. RANDY said it is probably to heavy to ship. I later changed it out for a factory made one I got off eBay.

CARBON ONE IS the member that makes the hitch mod for the second gens.

  2. Smokies Color Change Ride

I'm due a trip to Sevierville to visit family. May try to make this one.
  3. Not sure how to go about it. His shyster who is proving more and more useless says "Don't talk to press." And local paper seems in Sheriff's pocket. (Libtard rag.) A simple Nightmare would be a relief now.

    Dan,

Why don't you start here: acluwv.org. I've found in life and have been amazed

What the power of one phone call can be. The trick is knowing who to call. Most people don't know so they don't try.

  4. 50 Days. Kanawha County blocking everything they can from him. Never saw such a crooked Sheriff's Dept.

Have you tried to get national news coverage involved. I would think with today's social climate they would jump all over this story.

  5. I believe that there are others available that would fit, but not be an exact color match.

2C9-2835J-00-P0 should fit. Metallic black rather than whatever black the midnight used.

:sign yeah that: Aren't all of the body parts the same on all Gen 2's from 2001 on except for color?

By the way I might be interested in a LHS lower fairing for the. 2007 Midnight Venture but could paint one that's a different color, if anyone has one laying around I good shape.

  6. I had a minor mishap yesterday.

Was traveling possibly a little too fast when I came to a sharp corner caught a crosswind and wound up in the ditch.http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=110636

Gee that road looks pretty straight to me

  7. I told her she needs to be a brain surgeon. We could perform brain surgery and rocket science in the same family. Pretty proud of those two smart and strong willed young ladies. Looks like they'll leave an old firefighter like me in the dust.

There's gotta be a good punch line: A surgeon, a rocket scientist, and a fireman walk in a bar.............

A brain surgeon, a rocket scientist, a firefighter and a Facility Manager. Walk into a bar. The brain surgeon complains to the bartender that the beer is too cold causing him to get a brain freeze headache. the bartender apologies and said he would see what he cold do about it and runs to the back room to adjust the temperature on the beer cooler. When he comes back the rocket scientist complains that the beer is now too hot causing him to sweet like an astronaut before take off. The bartender apologies again and runs to the back room to adjust the temperature on the beer cooler. When he returns the firefighter complains that the beer is still not cold enough. He justifies his point of view by saying that he has been fighting fires all day long and the beer can never be cold enough for him. The bartender once again apologies and trots off to adjust the temperature one more time. When he returns he immediately glares at the Facility Manager and ask with contempt in his tone, " Sir, how is your beer?" The Facility Manager replies that his beer is just right, perfect in every way. Without hesitation the bartender pours a pitcher and sets it down in front of the Facility Manager and tells him that the pitcher is on the house.

While pouring him a glass from the pitcher he introduces him the the lovely blond waitress Brittany who smiles at him with her most amorous smile.

The morale of the story is QUIT YOUR *****ING AT THE BAR.:group cheers:

  8. 6 days, 1913 miles:7_6_3[1]:, 2 hotels and oceans, chased from Daytona by high winds, from Gulf coast by a hurricane, rode through a thunderstorm :depressed:and tornado warning to get home.

For all that I got a week with the whole family which is hard to do with the kids growing up and doing their own things. We rode roller coasters, swam in the ocean, ate seafood til we popped:fatsmiley:, and had a great time. I found a confederate missile in GA and a great aviation museum at Eglin Air Force base. Go visit if you are in the area, It's worth the time and free of charge. This trip was about the destination not the ride so most of the time was on interstates. I saw several HDs on the way home:mytruck1:, a couple were even running with the rest on trailers. I rode with a Victory for a short while until I got tired of listening to the V twin:Im not listening to, I grabbed a gear and left him somewhere in Alabama. I tried to run with a wing on I65 but I was in more of a hurry than he was. All in all a great week even with the weather. That was the shakedown run for the RSV as wife and I plan to travel on it some in the next few years and then extensively after that. As much as I like the VR the comfort level of the RSV makes it the hands down choice for travel. I felt better getting off of it than I do travelling in a cage. The wife got a lot of time in the cage with the daughters:auto: for their girl talk and visiting, she's liking this empty nest thing even less than I am. The 22 year old is leaving for med school soon and the 15 year old is talking aerospace engineering and moving off also. She has the brain for it. With an orthopedic surgeon and a rocket scientist for kids I'm sure we will have to travel a lot to see grand kids. More reason to keep riding.

Now back to life and work.

My experience tells me that Orthopedics Surgeon could come in handy for a biker.

  9. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=110643I stopped in Cordele, GA for gas and found the confederate missile sight #1 in the corner of the station parking lot. https://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/11706

We had to bail on Daytona because of the high winds and surf and headed up to Fort Walton beach. The upside being I've put 1300 miles on the RSV on my only trip of the year. 600 more Saturday to get home. Definitely gotta call Rick Butler when I get home, oh the jewels. Much more comfortable than my MKII though. This trip opened my eyes to which bike stays in the stable, no back pain at all. :7_6_3[1]:

    Been there, seen that.

  10. Or,, a way to put wheels under one and make a trike out of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or,, a way to put wheels under it, make a trike out it BUT also leave it as a usable jet ski so we could go right from the highway out onto the lake to troll for walleye.... :178::stirthepot:

    A CycleBoat!!!!!!!!!!!!!:guitarist 2:

Glad you two got out and enjoyed those thangs before Fool starts his shinanigans Boss!!!:cold:

Why not a transformer that you could knock buildings down with.

  11. Got a late start so I blew through on 75. Easy run all the way. I95 is terrible with the high winds tough.

Glad you took my advice and it worked out for you. Sorry about the wind but you did not request weather advice.

  12. The Bridge Collapse was INSIDE the beltway on I85 near where I75 and I85 and GA400 come togther just north of DOWNTOWN.

    It is repaired already.

That would never be a good route to travel for a thru traveler anyway. You want to take the I-285 Beltway around the city on the west side and avoid downtown.

I say that not travelling downtown much myself. But always avoid downtown traffic if I can.

Maybe if you come down I75 between 1am and 3am the traffic would be light thru downtown. Otherwise, take the beltway.

I would tend to disagree. Most times the beltway (285) is a mess and I would do the straight shot through town. It just depends on the location of any given wreck on any given day. The collapsed bridge is no longer a factor. My advice would be to load a travel app like WAZE on your phone. Stop north of Atlanta and check the locale travel conditions at the time. Then pick the best route at that time. If you get to Atlanta during your time frame described on a Monday my bet would be the straight shot through downtown. But, the traffic in Atlanta is always a crap shoot. Good luck.

  13.

I wish you were my neighbor. I think we'd get on well, most of the time.

The clearance in the speedometer head is so tight I can't imagine getting any general purpose grease in there. The nice thing about the spray lithium is it's carried in a solvent which makes it thin. In fact, my current can seems to spray mostly solvent. It still took a bit of effort to get the grease worked completely through the bearing.

I'd love to have a tech savvy venturerider like you as a neighbor but, it's too cold and the riding season is too short up there where you live.

Ever thought a about moving south?

  14. I took my speedometer out of the cluster to work on it. Too many delicate parts in there for me to be comfortable just spraying or pumping stuff into it.

I found that the drive didn't have much clearance to the bearing (probably a good thing). I used a NEW cable sheath (someone stuck me with a tachometer cable years ago). Sprayed a little brake clean into the bearing, spun it a bit, packed tissue inside the speedometer, attached the cable sheath and blew through with compressed air. Repeated until I felt I'd got the grime out.

Then after it had a chance to dry I filled the sheath with lithium grease, attached to the speedometer and hit it with the compressed air. Took apart, spun it, repeat. I did that until the new lithium grease began to appear inside the speedometer.

Put a little lithium grease on the gears and put it back together. It's been quiet as a mouse since, but haven't put many miles on it.

BTW, when the needle starts jumping it's either the cable or the bearing is worn out.

So I was right with the white lithium grease. I always knew that the world would be a much better place if more folks listened to what I had to say.

  15. Actually, in all the thousands of miles I have chased around on these 1st Gens I have never ever had problems with the speedo cable itself.. My issues have always pivoted around the infamous speedometer itself going SQWAUUKKKKKKKKKKK at just the right time and the right intensity to scare the living daylights out of ya = even if ya pretty much know its coming :big-grin-emoticon:

Shooting oil up into em without dismantling the varmint is difficult and WD40 just does not last that long. Even taking the cable shroud and putting oil in it and hitting it with compressed air can have minimal affect.. Dont know if any one else ever experienced this one but the one on Tweeks that failed down in Dennison Texas just before Squid and I repaired her failed stator on the way to California via Big Bend NP had the needle all of a sudden take off and start whirring around inside the speedo like a clock from the Twilight zone = telling ya Bob, coulda powered a small air plane with that thing.. Then,, BANG = show was over!! Nursed that speedo for over 270k and then BANG...

@FlyingFool - I am still riding these 83's and the one I got now has a working speedo = was that grease you pumped in there?

When it happened to me, I was on a failed Saddle Sore 1000 attempt somewhere around Mount Mitchell, N.C. During a sudden blizzard. I remember having to hunker down under a tarp next to a news paper box in the parking lot of a convenience store, listing to the Elks and wolves hollering and howling all night long, kinda like Puc style camping.

Well anyway, next morning after a long sleepless night, the paper man made me move so he could load the paper box. Just in time for the store to open and I got the first cup of a fresh pot of coffee to choke down a day old warmed up sausage and biscuit to warm my frost bitten innards.

Being too exhausted to finish the SS1000 attempt, I quit my mission and began limping home. I remember it was a cold morning at around 30° on a sunny day, and I had made it to some part of the Blue Ridge Parkway North of Asheville when it happened. Now whine would not have been the descriptor word I would have used when it suddenly started and scarred the bejesus out of me. It was more like one of them old timey sirens you had to wind up with a crank, The faster I went the louder it got. When I'd slow down it would settle down to an almost tolerable decibel level. ALMOST.

I put up with it all I could til I happened to be going by the Yamaha Stealership in Asheville where I pulled in for some advice. They had none nor did they have a clue what could be causing it. But they had no problem with letting me peel my leathers off and warm up in their little customer lounge, which was pretty nice as I recall, while I ate their donuts, drank their coffee, plugged into their power with my laptop and phone charger where I could access the internet and reach the real Yamaha experts, Venturerider.org. who of course knew exactly what the problem was and what to do about it.

I believe it was probably GeorgeS out of Seattle that told me to unscrew the Speedo cable fitting from the left side of the front wheel hub, pull the cable out , and screw the empty cable housing connector back on the wheel. He told me to put the extracted cable in the trunk and when I got home he would talk me through the fix, which he did as always with mind numbing detail. GOD BLESS GEORGES FOR THE HELP HE HAS GIVEN ME THROUGH THE YEARS. He also explained that I would not have any Speedo but I also wouldn't have to listen to that beotch whine all the way home.

Sure wish something that simple would have worked on either one of my ex wives.

How's that for a CTFW story?

  16. I may have mentioned this before but the main reason I bought the Goldwing is my doctor told me with my diabetes I needed to cut down on the carbs so I sold one of my Ventures and bought the Gold Wing.

No matter how many times I heard that joke at Vogel it is still funny.

Joe, your probably like me, no reason to give up on a good joke as long as it keeps getting laughs.:stickpoke::rotf:

  17. Got some things going but he is sitting in a 6x9 with no Tv No radio, gets shower sometimes, 1 hr out for rec sometimes (rare) a small window to see the world, Two 1 hr non contact visits a week. No snacks or drinks. ( ordered and paid for but they won't deliver to him.) I've never seen a Clown act like this. Hasn't been convicted. I could understand if convicted and acting out but he has done nothing but stop those that came to kill him!! This is Punishment for someone that has been convicted and can't behave then selves while in jail. It does happen to those that ask for it. (Don't obey rules) Firm Fair & Equal?? Bull.

Time tells all tales and heals all wounds.

  18. So did you use actual grease in the speedo? Isnt that stuff to thick? I used synthetic bicycle chain lube sprayed into the hole where the cable attaches and it worked for a while..

Was the device you used for greasing the speedo basically a grease zerk on a screw on tube so you could pump grease into the speedo after screwing the zerk adapter on where the cable attaches?? Got any pics?? Dont seem like that would be to hard to make,, using an old speed cable outer casing = put a zerk on one end = could reach right up in there and screw it on and grease er up if thats what we are talking about Fool...

Come on ya lop eared varmint - spill the beans!! Give it up!!

No need to do all of that, fine oils will dry out to fast, using aerosol white lithium grease you can squirt some down the cable housing and ram rod the cable up down a few times to get it all sqouze up and down the housing real good then squirt a few drops in on the Speedo gears. Then you'll be good to go for another 100k miles.

  19. Thanks to all for the comments - I guess I am relieved that it's probably not anything too serious. I will try pulling the cable and see if that eliminates it. I have had the instrument panel completely off, recently to re-solder the computer module, and before that to replace all those bulbs. What is the best lube for the cable, and is it the same as what you use to lube the speedo gear? I watched the video from Bluesky but didn't catch what he used on the cable -said he used Yamalube Racing grease (lithium based) for the gear.

So if the speedo does go bad, am I looking at replacing it with a salvage one, or are new units available? Come to think of it, I do have an entire instrument cluster from an 86 I believe (came with something else i bought a few years back - buried in the crawlspace with other miscellaneous parts). I am assuming that the entire cluster is not compatible, but the speedometer itself probably is?

It will probably be later this week, or the weekend, before I can try anything, but will post back with any results.

    Thanks again everyone.

Aerosol white lithium grease. Shoot it down the cable till it drips out the bottom. A little up into Speedo good too.
