  3. hi, Took off the rear seat and mounting bracket and installed the 2003 venture rack mount. (see pics) As the rear seat no longer fits I will remove the mount, then the chrome mounting trim from the rear guard and drill holes where the black marks are. I will only drill the forward holes on both sides first and I will put my sister on the bike and then mark where the rearward holes should go. Anyone been down this road before and I'm going the wrong way, don't spare my feelings, just let me know.
  4. Your ride today. From where to where and I'll fire up Google Earth and have a look. cheers,
  5. Hi, Don't know if you're supposed to post rides, but here goes. You can follow this on Google Earth and get a good idea of what its like. From Bucca Road and Pacific Hwy, Moonee Beach head north to Grafton. At Grafton go via the Armidale Rd, then onto the Orara Way to Glenreagh. Then to Nana Glen and the Bucca Rd back to the starting point. Approx 145kms and 95minutes. The old bus got 21km/litre...not too shabby Cheer, Passed 2 police cars going the other way.....

  10. First up, apologies if this topic has been raised and dealt with previously. I was going to go for a ride today, but at 36c at 0830 I thought I'd stay inside and fiddle with the bike. The plan has been to remove the pillion seat (no pillion) and put on a tour trunk with backrest. This would be only for long trips (5 days or more). So I removed the pillion seat and put on a 2003 venture mounting rack; it fit pretty easy. Now the question to my fellow riders is can anyone recommend a large universal trunk that would require just drilling a few holes. I don't want a $400 job as it will only be carrying clothes etc. Any advice will be appreciated. Cheers,
  11. spear, accommodation all sorted; got my own room at one of my beat mates place. she usually billets a couple from Canada who aren't coming next year. I have only seen one other Royal star in Coffs so far; it was a gen 1. Bloke who is going to service/work on the bike only services 2, so they look to be pretty rare.
  12. Spear, i'm not sure of the twisty bits just yet. my last bike was an R1 so it was twisties, twisties and more twisties! this feels as manoeuvrable as the titanic sidestepping the iceberg, but.... I've ordered the lift kit from Diamond R as per the comments on this forum, and with a little fiddling of the air pressures it should be ok, albeit without the damage to my knees! (its actually the line dancing i'm going to see....shhhh)
  13. thanx for all the kind replies. I am already spending a fair sum on the bike, so anyone with any ideas better get in quick. next longish trip will be to Tamworth for the Country Music Festival Jan 14 which is approx. 300kms; then the big one...Phillips island for the MotoGP in October 14 which will take 5 days to get there and approx. 2900kms cheers, gd
