VTirelli Posted June 23, 2008 Share #2 Posted June 23, 2008 I think it was Scott Kalitta who was killed, saw a vid of the wreck and it was terrible. A guy I work withs father was at the track and saw the whole thing. He thinks he was knocked out when the blower blew so hopefully he didn't suffer. May he rest in peace. Tartan Terror Posted June 23, 2008 Share #3 Posted June 23, 2008 Yes it was Scott Kalitta and the video was shocking!!! Prayers for the family. Nascar has the deaths undercontrol but NHRA is having way too many. I guess those are the risks you accept to compete in the sport.

Venturous Randy Posted June 23, 2008 Share #6 Posted June 23, 2008 The impact looked like a plane crash there was so much smoke and flames. He hit a concrete wall. Now thay are going to a sand pit and net from what I heard today. This was a shame. RandyA
berg Posted June 23, 2008 Share #7 Posted June 23, 2008 It was at Raceway park , they have a sand pit and a net, he became air born after hitting the sand and went into the pole that holds the net.
BurgyMon Posted June 23, 2008 Share #8 Posted June 23, 2008 That was terrible. But when you're doing 300 MPH and things go wrong, your options aren't much. One announcer had made a statement he had retired twice, but loved it too much to stay out of it. It's a terrible tragedy.
BOO Posted June 24, 2008 Share #9 Posted June 24, 2008 Yeah, bummer, at 300 MPH a lot of things can go wrong and do. There have been several accidents in recent years, some survive some don't. Yeah Bill I've seen Connie race many times back in the 60's but I was just a little kid back then. Jerry

The sand pit at that track is way too small for the speeds that are reached in todays machines. IH Truck Guy Posted June 28, 2008 Share #11 Posted June 28, 2008 The sand pit at that track is way too small for the speeds that are reached in todays machines. http://youtube.com/watch?v=I__YaTWXU1w Englishtown and other tracks that have short run off area's are going to have to rebuild or reconfigure to handle 330 mph runs. The only current track that can handle these speeds is Brainerd..IMHO
Pappa Bear Posted June 28, 2008 Share #12 Posted June 28, 2008 Prayers to the family, I believe the track in Norwalk, Ohio, Summit Motorsports Park can handle it, nothing but county airport runways at the end. Very nice set up
