They more than likely used existing knowledge from recent bikes. So one from say a Tennera may fit. As far as using one Yes. I have had one on every bike since 2007. On my RSV I had it and currently on my Victory I run a LED on low beam and the modulator on a halogen bulb on the high side. The bike also has a brake light modulator. Anything to attract attention.
