Question ...

I have a trunk rack off my 91 VR. Can the RSV lid handle a trunk rack? I don't know if I have ever seen a road patty with a trunk rack. Regardless and of course the big question before I go drilling holes and tossing tools around the garage ... would there be any problems fitting the 91 rack to the trunk on my RSV?

The trunk on most of the 1St Gens are kind of flat on top . If the rack you have has four posts that will hold it up off the lid you should be able to mount it on the 2ND gen trunk. Just keep in mind that a lot of the racks do not have the flat pieces that the rack sets on. If your rack does not have the metal strips under the rack then you can crack the lid if you put very much weight on it. Here is a couple pics of mine. I had to make the plates you see under the rack.

Thanks. So ... top and bottom with the plates you think or did you just to the top? The RSV lid seems a tad flimsy.

Hey, thanks for the input. Dan, why do the bottoms need reinforcing? I've never really even looked at the trunk? They split on the bottoms?

I think I will just pass on putting a rack on the trunk. Just hope it will stay where it is. I mean, they don't just fall off do they? Oye.

I've not know it to be a problem. The first year, 1999, there was a problem but Yamaha provided a repair kit that consisted of large washers and a rubber pad under the rear on the support rack. After that, I don't know of any real problems.
