3M Paint Defender Bra

Cougar

Recommended Posts

About a year ago I bought a can of 3M paint Defender

and I have been wanting to better protect the ( ROCK DING)

area , in photo 2 I have about 100 rock dings on both sides total

from the past 5 or 6 years of riding. the area shown is where the rocks

hit all the time that I will spray.

Anyways, I went ahead as the outside temp was in my favor and

decided to do this project this morning. it was 65 degs.

I also tried the clip on spray handle. Do NOT waste your money on it

as I am only doing a small area and it works like crap.

At the time of this post I still have 1.5 hours left until it dries

Mask off for over spray , but there isn't much so maybe my mask

was a little more then I needed. I did mask the tires with a roll of

stretch wrap, that seems to work pretty well.

I will post the final results this afternoon to what it looks like dry

You are shooting for a ORANGE PEEL look when wet.

The last photo #4 is a super close up of the line

in the bright sun light.

otherwise you can not see it very well.

it seems to dry pretty darn clear.

Now wait 4 days to wax it.

  • 4 weeks later...

Wellll, A few months ago on a beautiful spring day, four of us Shriners were out on a casual ride through the backroads of Stone County, Mississippi. There were two Harleys (2whl) in front of me and a Goldwing trike behind. We had been enjoying the scenery for an hour or so, cruising along about 45mph, when we came upon the only four way stop within miles, out in the middle of nowhere. We were almost at a stop when all of a sudden ' CRASHBAM ', the Goldwing behind me hadn't seen that we were stopping for the 4way and buried his front wheel into the trunk of my Hannigan. The impact knocked me loose from the handlebars and almost drove me into the two Harleys that were stopped a few feet in front of me, but I was able to regain the grips and steer around them and to the side of the road. No injuries, but a 'totalled' trike for me and fender and fork damage for the Goldwing. No doubt in my mind that if my Bride had been along for the ride that day, it would most likely have snapped her neck as it was a rather violent impact. Anyways, we both have GEICO Insurance and my bike was over to 'The Trikeman' in Mobile Alabama two days later. So far the bill is close to $8k for replacement of the Kit and incidentals. Now, since it was a Honda assaulting a Yamaha, is it considered a 'Hate Crime'? or could it have been the start of trike 'Mating Season'? LoL

Well so far so good. seems to stop the dings.

It is still holding strong on the paint.

Still have not pealed it off yet, I will know more

after the riding season and will let you know.

You do the same if your going to install it please.

You might get more riding in then I do as well.

Ok Jeff, I'm confused... U and the 3M videos both refer to 'Peeling' it off... Is that part of the process, or just if U decide U no longer need the protection??

Sorry to confuse you, I did it just like how I did my small write up

and it is still on strong. and doing well. re-read my bra instructions

so you don't have to go through some of the extra stuff,

I only have had this on for a little over a month, I have no clue

yet on how long it last, however I do not see it coming off anyplace

that I applied the 3M . the stuff once dry it's very durable, I think

you will be pleased, the ONE thing is you MUST have it make the orange peel

look or you will have to start over. let dry 3 days then WAX it. I didn't do that

and it was harder to clean. it is waxed now. I also sprayed bug be gone on it

and it did not seem to hurt it one bit. let us know how you like it.

and YES, once you no longer need it , peel it off and spray again. I believe

you can get 3 applications out of a can. do NOT use the spray holder thingy.

you also need to wax it with there synth. wax so it will peel off later easier.

K. Tnx Jeff. Will put it on b4 I leave for IR. Wax B4 application. Can't think of any reason to peel it off unless it discolors or something.
