rayzar52 Posted July 14, 2013 #1 Posted July 14, 2013 Has anyone changed out the final drive with a lower one to lower RPM's at highway speeds. Is there a final drive unit from different model with a different gear ratio?? any help
darthandy Posted July 14, 2013 #2 Posted July 14, 2013 Have a look at these threads: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=80061 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=79941 There is a lot more info available on the site as well. Andy
djh3 Posted July 14, 2013 #3 Posted July 14, 2013 If I'm not mistaken thats what the V-max swap is. I am totaly guessing here but it seems it is easier to swap the entire rearend assy then to take one apart and swap just the ring and pinion.

The swap actually raises the RPMs making it less likely to lug the engine.
M61A1MECH Posted July 15, 2013 #5 Posted July 15, 2013 The V-max swap is a lower geared rear end, you gain performance, the engine RPMs are increased in all gears. As high as 4th and 5th gear are on the Royal Star Venture and where the power band is on the V-4, I cannot imagine why anyone would want to lower the engine rpms at cruising speeds. I find my self lugging mine all to often if I am just tooling around and not paying attention to my speed and the gear, a higher geared rear end would, in my opinion, reduce the ridabilty of the bike to unacceptable levels.
MikeWa Posted July 15, 2013 #6 Posted July 15, 2013 If you want a better ride do the v-max swap. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13266 Then you can ride one gear up, have lower rpm and still have better performance. Or ride the same gear have higher rpm, better performance and better gas mileage. In other words you will have more options. Mike
djh3 Posted July 15, 2013 #7 Posted July 15, 2013 Steve rode home from the Sarasota airport yesterday in some ppuring azz rain like we have had lateley. Not much traffic luckley. Found myself running 55-60 in 4th and didnt even know it. I think the ratio is OK with me. I know some change due to pulling a trailer. I gues initialy I miss read the OP question . oops.I read lower and ratio and didnt realize he was asking about droppping RPM not ratio.
