Luggage for 2008 RSTD

Mike from Ohio

Recommended Posts

Instead of trying to fit a trunk to my RSTD, I am interested in finding luggage that can create similar capacity to a Venture trunk and be attached the rear factory accessory luggage rack and the passenger sissy bar. Any real life experience with this type of product or suggestions would be appreciated.

I used a Ralley Pak. It comes in 2 parts one large and one about 1/3 the size.It also comes with a cargo net and exterior pockets. It has plenty of straps and "D"rings and buckles on both units to tie them together and to tie them to the bike.It even has straps to wrap around your passenger backrest. It also has reflective strips that work real well.Water resistant, heavy duty nylon maybe like Cordura and very well made. Mine survived a wreck that totaled the bike but it never detached and only got a small tear where it pinched on the backrest.

Beware however, the factory rack is only rated to 20 lbs. Its not that the rack gives out but it can bend the fender. I watched this happen on a friends bike.

This is the one we use on my RSTD, on the luggage rack behind the sissybar:

The Kuryakyn Ultra Tour Bag $150. Lots of room, lots of ways to open it.

Hangs on tight with it's own straps, no bungies needed. Looks good too.

I use it on most trips but also take if if we are going to do some shopping.

With this on my RSTD and the side bags, I actually have more versitility than my RSV.

I have the Gran Tour similar to Mike's and they're made pretty well. I've had mine for around three years and have had no problems with the zippers, straps, etc. If your solo, you don't need a luggage rack. It has a large strap that slips over the back rest to help secure it.
