Ceiling fan fix

Has anyone ever replaced the pull chain on a ceiling fan? It's the chain controlling the fan. It's broken off inside so there's nothing to attach another chain to. I know i've seen a small replacement part at Home Depot's but are they really standard and one size fits all?

Although it's a bit tedious, it's best to kill the circuit breaker to the fan and remove the switch. If it's not hooked up with wire nuts, just cut the wires midway but MARK them if it's more than a simple on-off switch (most are 4 way... off-lo-med-hi... Then take it down to the hardware store and have them get you the replacement... along with the correct wire nuts if required. They are all 120v.

:sign yeah that:

But if you are feeling really ambitious (read: bored:snow:), after you get the switch outa the fan, drill the flared edges of the rivets, holding it together, and carefully take it apart. If there are any "OH-CHIT" :yikes: parts that come flying out, revert to the plan listed above. If not, carefully replace the chain with what came off, when it broke. Reassemble it and replace the rivets with screws from the "I'll need these sometime or another" jar on the corner of your work shop. Tightly wrapped electrical tape will :innocent: work just not very long as screws.

If you were lucky enuff to have it break off while the fan is on high, you can buy and install a wireless remote. It will allow you to control the fan speed without touching the fan, and it will control the lite kit if you have one as well. They sell them at Lowes and HD and takes less than an hr. to install.
