Lone Star Rally (Galveston Tx)

Well its almost time for the Lone Star Rally in Galveston Tx. Its Halloween weekend as always. I was wondering who is interested in going. I am leaving early Sat morning to head down to Galveston and have a room reserved on the SeaWall for Sat night. Anyone interested in meeting up and riding down there together? My room is at the Best Western and I will have a spare bed if anyone decides they want to stay the night. I hear that past crowds for this event has been up to 400k people :wow:with every kind of bike imaginable and tons of things to look at and do.

Let me know if you want to meet up and head down there.

I'm definitely going, probably Saturday. My wife and I like to go early and leave early. I do like to see the zillion bikes on the Strand and shop the vendors, but 8 hours is plenty. I've never been to the seawall part. Is it worthy?

Let me know where you want to meet and we can ride down together!

Is the seawall worthy. Depends! Do you want to see water or the beach? The seawall is what holds the Gulf back from flooding all of Galveston at times. Long ago there were gun turrents along the wall to protect us from invaders and the seawall was where you went to see the BABES ON THE BEACH!!!! No you can skip it! The party will be on the Strand this time.

The sea wall is pretty much just venders, but I did get a good buy on a leather vest on Sunday, they all want to get rid of there stuff.. some of the bands play up there and Harly has there Dyno trailer set up... its worth a check out, if you have never been there..

Based on this, would you recommend going Sunday instead of Saturday?

I'm in Sugar Land, and you're north. Maybe the most obvious meeting spot is near 45 & BW8?

Is the party in the Peanut Butter Warehouse?

Dave, if the only reason your going is to find good deals, I would try Sat night instead of Sunday, the traffic really sucks trying to get home. I shopped Sunday as I had to work the rally untill 10:00AM Sunday morning, if I go again it will be Friday or Sat then head home...

Dave,

Sounds good. We can meet at first exit past bw8 on 45 s. LEt me know what time to get there. Remember there is going to be numerous rides from Houston involving hundreds to thousands of bikes heading down there Sat morning but most will depart Houst after 9am and are escorted. I would like to be ahead of them if possible. My number is in VRAssistance. Lets talk during the day on the 30th. I have a party to attend that night.

Can't wait to see it all.

Do you want to depart from there around 9? Earlier? I think last year we got there pretty early and had breakfast. We were there early enough to get free parking!

Did a drive by yesterday to see if there was a good meeting place near the first exit on 45 south of BW8. There is a McD's there, and a Shell adjacent. Then, a quick on-ramp just past.

Only thing is, that there is the airshow this weekend and this is the Ellington Field exit. Weaves could be a problem. Should we relocate our meeting place?

Dave,

How about we meet at the Baybrook mall at the BayArea Blvd Exit. (Hooters would be a good point as its right on the service road) Any where along there should be good depending on timing.Road is gonna be slammed all day anyway so the determining factor will be what time we get there. We ahve to remember that there is a lot of groups that will be meeting all over Houston for group and escorted rides down to Galveston. Most that I have seen are going to meet at 8 amd 9am and then leave Houston with the biggest from Stubbs Cycle on i45 S that usually has up to a thousand riders ( I'm told that havent seen it). It would be good to be there as early as possible as to beat some of the traffic and get ahead in getting parking once we get there. What time do you want to meet there Saturday Morning?

If you have questions or wanna talk just drop me a ring.

I agree totally. Have you decided what time you want to arrive at Hooters? LEt me know by tomorrow so I can make sure we can get together. Roadhand is going to call us once he gets to Galveston later in the day.

James

How about departing the Hooters at 8:30 then? I received "significant comments" from my navigator about leaving the house at 7AM to go to the rally. There was some questioning of my sanity. :whistling:

Last year we rode down and found free parking on the eastern end of the Strand. Then we walked a few blocks to the Original Mexican Cafe for breakfast. By the time we got done with breakfast, all the parking lots near where we parked were full. Does that sound like a reasonable plan?

Sound like a decent plan. I never have been down there but remember last year was less than half the usual people from what I heard. I will follow your lead since I dont even know where to go or what to do. I will be at Hooters ready to leave at 8:30 am Saturday. NOTE: I have not been to the Hooters in 7yrs so lets just say near the restraunts at the Mall on the feeder just south of Bay Area blvd. Exit BAB then Xcross it and pull into Mall parking lot and stay out near the access road. Should be 5 or 6 restraunts there and one was a Hooters with Chinese next door. I quit working at NASA back in 2000.

Google Earth and MapSource both say Hooters is just south of Nasa Rd 1?

I've been to the rally the last few years. It sure didn't seem light last year. People were spending like crazy too, "to rebuild their economy". I did my part. :whistling:

It won't be very busy on The Strand until noon. Then it just keeps getting louder and busier and busier. We've cut out around 6PM whenever we've gone. I might take the shuttle to the Seawall, because I've never been to that end.

I believe you are correct. Hooters is at NASA RD 1 exit. Meet ya there at 8:30 tomorrow. You can show me how to take the shuttle to the seawall. Not much to see there though unless you have transprotation up and down the seawall after all it is just a seawall.

My Grandmother used to live across the street from the Flagship hotel pier that back in the old days was "Pleasure Pier" amusment park. Rode the ferris wheel there many times. Some good Seafood is available down that way though. My room is actually on the seawall blvd.

See you tomorrow
