Lean and mean

I pulled my rear 2 plugs last night and looked at them just out of curiosity. They were white and looks like it is running lean.

 

My question is, what causes this and how do I fix it? It's an '05 RSTD.

Has the bike been sitting any length of time?

Unless you killed the engine and pulled in the clutch at speed, all you are really seeing is the indication of the idle mixture - which is always set way lean on any modern engine to meet EPA requirements.
