dogman Posted June 15, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 15, 2009 I have removed the two nuts and bottom plug, but the cowling still feels like it is being held on by glue or another plug right in the middle section inbetween where the two bolts came out. Do I just keep pulling? It feels like the plastic is bending so much that it may break. Any suggestions would be appreciated
JWills Posted June 15, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 15, 2009 There is a small plastic retainer in the middle on the bottom of the cowlings. Pry the center piece out carefully so you dont break it. Dont ask me how I know this Just saying.
SteveW Posted June 15, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 15, 2009 On the inside of the lowers about 1/2 way down torward the outside there is a allen head bolt that has to be removed. ( Don't pull on the lowers you may break the bolt bracket.) total of 3 allen head bolts on each side and the plug bolt in the bottom middle. dogman Posted June 15, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted June 15, 2009 3 bolts..... The manual only said two plus the plug at the bottom. I was looking at that inside bolt, but said to myself no it doesn't have to come out or else they would have said that in the manual... #$^* Thank you for your help, Ill go do it now
eazyduzzit Posted June 15, 2009 Share #6 Posted June 15, 2009 You don't read the instructions until you break something....
dogman Posted June 16, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted June 16, 2009 The cowlings came off very easy after taking that inside bolt out. Thank you for your help
Guest Saddletramp Posted June 16, 2009 Share #8 Posted June 16, 2009 The first time I removed mine I applied a little bit of lube to the backside of the stays on the very bottom, where the rubber grommet is, made it easier to pull the plastic through the grommet.
