Recommended Posts

Hi guys I'm in process of rebuilding my starter in my 86 venture. My question is I opened it up and it's has a lot of back grimy grease in it is this normal and should I clean it out and is suppose to have grease in there thanks

The black grimy stuff is most likely carbon residue from the brushes.

Since you have it out, it would be a shame to not replace the stock two brush with a four brush.

Here's one for $56 plus shipping. Jus' sayin'.

And here is one that the seller has listed since November and has a "Make Offer" possibility.

I totally agree. Just switch the starter. For all the trouble it takes to pull in off and put it back on, this is the way to go.If you get a used one though, spend a few bucks and rebuild it.Easy and inexpensive to do.Your bike will start like a sports bike.
