need little help from the group

I'm now getting to work on my 86 royale. i have a problem when i put the bike while running in gear there is a noise , a chatter from the drive shaft area, and no forward movement. I have taken the drive shaft off and i dont seam to any probem with it. Please help me with my next step

First you need to insert the drive shaft into the yoke\u-joint, have the bike in gear and make sure you can't turn the shaft. If it won't turn try the same with the bike in neutral, and let us know what you find.

I have the left side cover off, and the large nut, i can move and the u-joint moves , but cant move the nut with my hand when in gear

You need to inspect the pinion gear. Take the hub off and open it, it is not difficult to do, then you need to man handle the pinion see if its connected or sheared..

You Check the shaft Ujoint as Carl mentioned, also with the shaft removed put the bike in gear and listen for noise,,, likely it will sound normal, pointing again to the hub.
