  1. I saw a new commercial for the Chevy Eco today: A guy drives up to a Chevy dealer in a new Toyota Camry and the dealer asks if he's "Ready to trade the ole girl in?" The drive replies that it's a brand new Camry and he just wanted to look at the new Chevy. When the owner gets out to look at the cars the salesman starts looking at the Camry and says there's no way this can be a new car. Antoher saleswoman steps up and asks "what are you looking for?" He replies " A cassette deck".

I immediately thought about the Venture. (I had a 99 before the RSTD)

Maybe if the other makers would call out our Venture Yammy might finally wake up!

  2. I have to agree that there is little hope for us in 2013. I don't have any faith in Yamaha and that's a shame since I love the royal star (for 1999!!). I'm between jobs right now but when I'm able I'm looking elsewhere. The Kaw is nice I've checked it out twice and since I ride solo the room issue ins't a concern. The Cross country is on my short list too.

What bothers me most is that this could signal the end of this group as we all move on tho Victory, Harley and any one else that is making atempts to listen to their fans.

  3. Just found this on facebook for anyone looking to add a tour pack. Not sure of the location of the poster. BTW this is the first thread I've ever started let me kn ow if I've screwed it up:322:

  4. Wow you guys live around some BAD drivers. I will say this: I used to ride extremely aggressively on my crotch rocket (R-1 a bike that Yamaha does seem to want to improve on a regular basis) Then I had problems, I was run off the road tailgated etc but. I haven't had that problem in the three years since I've been back in the US and now I'm just riding my RSTD.

What I have been getting mad about lately, Is when a smoker from a car throws there smoke out of the window. heck I didn't even do that when I used to smoke .

How about a dirty diaper flying by your head? Happened to me years ago. I pulled up beside the two women in the car and the thrower started apologizing immediately. But who the hell does that?

  5. OK I see you have already started the conversion but did you think of using a second back rest bracket as a base? I have done just that and now I can change from tourpack to no tour pack or use the back rest in less than a minute. BTW the light look great I'm actually doing the same but I am having a hard time getting my hands up under the fender so I guess i'll be taking the tire off. Did you have to do this or did you find another way?

  6. Guys I live about six hours away and it was always on my "to do list" so a couple of years ago I took off from work and rode the dragon on a Wednesday. I have to say it was great! I rode it on my 2002 R-1 never got above 40 mph and had the road mostly to myself. Talked to a few locals there and I was briefed here by a guy that lived up there for years. They all told me to stay away from there on the weekends too much craziness!!

  7. They just have to grin and bare it. I customized my bike for me, not the neighbors, not my wife, me. If they don't like it, they can move. Period.

Not trying to be the fun police since I like a little rumble myself (and I love my neighbors but still have my pipes cut for a little noise) but if we "push it" then we have to deal with the legislative "push back". Who knows instead of moving they might start passing laws with $350.00 fines attached to them like this bill in NH. I've even read the AMA is figting a proposal to outlaw all aftermarket pipes.

Unlike some failed legislative efforts to further limit motorcycle noise, the bill does not require police to stop motorcyclists and use decibel meters to enforce the noise ordinance. But to pass inspection, a motorcycle would have to meet the noise standard and display a sticker proving that it did. The police could stop a bike they believe exceeds the noise limit, check for the sticker and presumably issue a $350 ticket.

The American Motorcyclist Association advises against the use of loud pipes because they prejudice the public against motorcycles and cyclists.

  8. Dave,

I can't really answer on how much larger the trunk is. I actually used to own a 99 Venture back in 2001-2002 and sold it when uncle Sam sent me to Korea but all I can say is both will hold two full face helmets. This time I was in the market for whichever I could find first and would have gladly taken a venture trunk if the price was right. I never saw the Harley mine came off of but I was told it was an 89.

BTW you are right about $2000 vs a new bike and you are a lucky man. I can't get my wife to ride.

  9. David,

Those numbers are in the right ball park I was lucky enough to find the tour pak for $300.00 then paint and fabrication was another $700.00. I still need to install the lining and add chrome to the bracket , which I'm doing today. I even looked at the Harley LED light kit which is another $469.00 so custom dynamics here I come. You think we'd have just bought the Venture huh? But as much as I like these bikes I don't like the rounded cyclops look of the front fairing.

    Good Luck

  10. I've done just that. I bought a second backrest and had a Harley trunk bracket welded on to it. It been about six months and I love it. I 'll try and get a few pics together tomorrw and post them here. as for the strength, it seems pretty sturdy and my 12 year old rides back there with no problem. He's not a little one either. 5'11" and 140 lbs.

  11. yeah - I could never figure why someone would want jump out of a perfectly good airplane
