  1. ...SAMPLING IS FUN!! :cool10:

...until your wife catches you! Oh, you were talking about riding other MOTORCYCLES. My bad.

Yeah, I haven't riden a F6B or regular wing, but I don't like the foot position. Seeing them next to each other, if I would get one, I'd mix & match parts to get it to my liking.

  2. Just go to a parts site and look up a newer V-Max (like a 2000) and you will find the part number. For example, Cheap Cycle Parts dot com:

    http://www.cheapcycleparts.com/oem-parts/yamaha/2000/vmx12m-v-max/shift-cam-fork

The numbers I got off there was:

Item #6: 4NK-18185-00-00 for the segment (what they call the shifter cam)

Item #7: 93604-12037-00 for 5 of the dowel pins

Item #13: 93604-16092-00 for the 6th dowel pin

Double check to make sure I didn't typo. You need new pins as the ones you have for the shifter cam that has the bent metal retainer are longer than the one required for the new cam. I was cheap and just used a cut-off wheel on my dremel to make them shorter. Might need a new screw, depending on how much you bugger up the head when you try removing it. That's 90151-06013-00, item #8

Good luck with it, from a fellow '83 rider.

  3. The thing that keeps me from being embarassed is that I turn my bike off like this every time I stop, so I always have to turn it back on to start it up. Now leaving the key in the trunk lock and frantically searching my pockets for it, pretty common.

  4. Thanks for the link, but I already have Dano's thread bookmarked. I've already been inside the motor once before, but since you can't tell if it's broken w/o removing it, I left the "new" starter clutch on when I put the replacement motor in my bike. My original one is still in good condition, so that's what I'll be swapping in. I'll order Dano's when I get a few more spare bucks...

  5. The last few days my starter clutch noise has been getting louder & more frequent, this morning it made a loud noise and now I can only hear the solenoid clicking but no engine rotation. Guess I'll be popping the cover open this weekend. I have a good stock one from my old motor, but I will be ordering a Dano one in the near future...

Sucks cause I had to cage it to work this morning, and my in-laws garage that I borrow to do vehicle work is filled up with a partially dis-assembled Chevy Blazer up on jack stands. Hopefully the flywheel pops off w/o too much drama.

  6. Jeff, that's a good idea with the split fuel line. I just put a bunch of layers of duct tape on the front tab until it was snug but could still be removed. I also make sure that it's snapped back in place EVERY TIME and then install the rear screw.

I had mine blow up once, but since I had my handlebars in a non-stock position, they prevented it (along with the flange under the seat) from coming off completely. Does come as a shock when it happens.

  7. So you do this every year? Might have to swing by in the future. This year it's the 110th HD party here in Milwaukee over Labor Day weekend, the place is going to be swimming in bikes. But if you have it as an annual thing, I will pencil it in for an upcoming year, sounds like a fun time.

  8. So did he offer to let you ride his GW trike?

Even tho the 1st gens are closer to the GW design, they are narrower and that's why I like my 1st gen over a GW. I've sat on a few GW, and tho initially ok, I couldn't move my legs forward enough w/o having to spread them wide around the engine & fairing. Unless the GW changes it's design in the future, I would NOT take a GW, bike or trike.

  9. Ummm, depends. A "hi" and a smile, that's ok. A conversation with her, different story. Did you initiate the conversation with my little girl or did she? Any guy, dirty old biker or well dressed businessman, that starts a conversation out of the blue with my little girl & I have no clue who they are, will get a "excuse us, we gotta go" from me. I'm not against friendly, but some things I am wary of.

Anyways, one kid of mine will wave and say "hi" to a lot of people, so I'm used to acknowledging many people. She is such a flirt.

    -Andrew

p.s. Dan, that dirty biker, is ok with my little girl. :stickpoke: :rotf:

p.p.s. Yes, my other daughter is getting close to dating age, so I need to get me a shotgun...

  10. They look like one-seaters. They look cooler than a Smart car, but those can at least fit 2 people in. I know there are a lot of commuters that ride by themselves, but in practical, real world conditions, you need another vehicle if more than one person is going. That is why 2-seaters lose out to more practical family sedans, minivans, and SUVs, and these will be relegated to those who can afford to have "toys" along with practical vehicles.

That said, I'd take one, in that color green. Do they make a convertible?

  11. Dan, I wish I got a pic of everyone that had her in their arms/laps, she did more lap-hopping than Shari does bike-hopping! She started warming up to everyone, and our whole family enjoyed the IR.

Below are a few pics, I still got to download all of them and get the best ones posted. Looking thru them, I thought I took more pics, wonder what happened to them.

Couple of Tiva, Group #2 at the Dubuque Elevator, and the best pic of all, friendship & ice cream.

  12. Not heard that about the Venture, but I thought I heard that they helped develop the shaft drive in the Yamaha Maxim, wish I had more than hearsay on that tho. But that would at least link Porsche with Yamaha.

  13. Riding to a motorcycle meet in a convertible car would be alright with me. But only if you show up with the top down on rainy days also. That way you can still be miserable with everyone else.:D

Hey, I go to convertible (car) meets on my bike, so why not? I still get to meet up & renew friendships, even tho I'm not riding in a vert.

Looks like a nice one. Hope you still get chances to enjoy open-air cruises.

  14. Hey Dingy, they're just CYA. My aunt almost drove down a boat ramp. In Waupaca, the road makes a sharp left, but if you go straight you head down a boat launch. It was nighttime and her first time thru the city. Luckily she stopped before she launched herself.

And what trains? There were trains at Blanding Landing? I musta missed them. :stickpoke: Long Long Short Long. Wooooo woo. Chugga chugga CHOO CHOO!

Glad I wasn't on the list, I toughed it out for the whole week there, so it wasn't me that said "Hilton"!

  15. ...The four piston MKII calipers don't slide back and forth like the MKI calipers with just a single piston...

Unless your's are different, my MK1 calipers are solidly mounted, with a single piston on each side of each caliper (making it a dual piston?) so I really haven't noticed uneven wear. Maybe one of the pistons is sticking. Now my Maxim is a single piston caliper that pivots around a bolt, but it still doesn't wear unevenly...

  16. We got home Sun at quarter to 9, didn't go straight home after the rally. Total miles was 1,673 on the Venture & 1,957 on the Caravan. I pulled 45.8 mpg on the bike and 17.1 mpg with the Caravan (it had the pop-up hauling duties). We were also camping the week before the rally, so that's added into the totals.

  17. The family & I had a great time, even with the trains (long, long, short, long). My wife surprised me by saying "I wonder if they will hold the next one in Michigan", as that's where we're planning our next family vacation. So if she's looking towards the next one, it must have impressed her that much and she wasn't even riding!

Kudos to the team! Looking forwards to many more meets.

    -Andrew & family

p.s. we'll be looking for a set of CB radios, one for the Venture and one for the Caravan.
