  1. Hey Bob,

Assuming Mary's flight arrives on time we may be able to work that out. Can you send me an address (for the GPS) or something that you'll be leaving from at 1:00? I'm on the move so if you don't hear from me, don't wait-up, but if I know where to find you and we can get there in time we'd be happy to ride down with you.

Besides - then we'd be the first ones to know for SURE what the surprise is!

  2. Does your Garmin take flash mem. cards? I have the Nuvi 750 I can load a 2 gig card with tunes plug it rite into the gps and play music rite thru the gps unit, no need for a separate player. Just a thought. Craig

I do this with my Nuvi 350 too & recommend it. Although i think the 2720 doesn't support music playback, one advantage worth noting - which could be worth considering as you choose a player - is that I can have a couple of different playlists loaded onto different memory cards.

This means changing playlists is as simple as swapping a card in 2-3 secs. This opposed to having to re-load a player with fixed memory or limited capacity. I have a couple cards I use a lot including one with music both the Mrs & I like, and another with with stuff I like but she doesn't (for solo rides).

  3. That's great. I've mentioned a few times here that my wife wouldn't ride with me at all in the past. I had a few smaller cruiser style bikes when I gat back into riding after a decade or so off. Just going around the neighborhood she hated them.

Same thing you described happened once I got the Venture though. She loved it and was immediately hooked. She gets as excited about trips as I do now.

For example, she wasn't able to leave with me for my annual route to Americade then to Don's for Maint day. She's actually flying into Buffalo just so I can pick her up on my way to Don's so she can get some ride time in;-)

  4. I'll be at Americade on the afternoon of June 2nd and leaving PM of June 4th to head down to Don's. I'm stopping in Buffalo to pick up the Mrs. at the airport there (AM of the 5th) along the way.

I'll also be doing the covered bridge run on Wed. If anyone wants to catch up while there - or head down towards OH together on the 4th leave a post here.

  5. If you do a regular search that gets the results you're looking for (e.g. under motorcycles choose Yamaha and Venture - maybe a year range that narrows it down a bit) you can then scroll down watching the column on the left. You should find a group of choices under preferences where you can select "completed listings". That'll narrow it down to ones that've sold in the last month or so.

  6. The Kangamagus Highway in NH. Then ride to the top of Mt. Washington. I did it 30 years ago and it was 3/4 dirt then..A humbling experience on a Triumph Daytone 500... Also, I have a brother who lives in Berwick, ME. He has a Vulcan 1600. I.m sure he could fill you in on a lot of places to go. PM me if you're interested in contacting him...

I second that! While you're there look up Hurricane Mountain Road. It's a short ride (2 mi) just off one end of the Kank, but so much fun when we ran it a couple of years ago we actually went back and forth on it again before we continued on our route. :happy34:

  7. Single best... sorry, can't help you there. Top candidates in no particular order:

    Comfort:

Backrest (Utopia in my case) - Doubled daily mileage capability

lower air deflectors (keep in the heat or vent it away depending on outdoor temp)

    Safety:

    Horn

Due for some additional rear lighting too though

    Navigation:

Ram Mount for my Garmin 350 - Provides music (MP3 player) and navigation

    Enjoyment:

Not really a mod but... Headset for intercom and CB. Group rides are that much more fun when in contact with the group via the CB. Better utility out of the music etc as well - PLUS I'm lucky to enjoy the conversation of the Mrs. while we're riding too;-)

  8. I've got a box of stuff from my first gens that I was planning to bring to maint day if I can find a way to lug it down there. If I get it there, cost for everything will be the buyer's perspective on a reasonable donation to VR.org.

I know Venture stuff can be tough to find - especially at a reasonable price for something in decent shape.

First piece of advice is to mention it here if you're looking for something. I know in my case I just never get around to listing, photographing etc. all the crap I have, but would gladly help a fellow VR member if I can.

As far as the ebay stuff - your call on mentioning it here. My experience with our group is that we tend to be pretty civil about letting someone go for something, first post first served, if they mention it on the notification thread.

  9. Once it's soft from heat you can pull some fishing line across it between the tank and emblem to peel it off. Don't "saw" aggressively though, it can scratch the paint. If it's softened up you can pull the line through it. Then it's just a case of getting the adhesive off using some of the techniques mentioned above.

  10. Did I mention that I really don't enjoy driving in Boston and WHY does it cost so much to part here. Geezzzzzzzzzzzzzz

What's not to like about a vast array of one-way streets, uncluttered by informational street signs??

There are about four free parking spaces in the city. If you drive around enough you might find one.:whistling:

Weather is getting better after today - all the above is why they call Boston a "walking city". Hopefully you'll have a chance to take in some of the sites and maybe walk through the public garden on a nice day before you go. E-mailed you a map with a few thoughts yesterday.

  11. asking price in cash, in your hand before a test ride. :canada::canada::canada:

I agree - and if the bike is back in 10 -15 mins in the same shape it left in they can swap it back if they aren't happy with it. You may have the odd person who doesn't like it, but it's a very common and reasonable agreement - if they don't have the cash to do it, there's a good chance they're not serious in the first place.

  12. Now that IS great news! Congrats Gary & Mary - I'm truly thrilled to hear this! :happy65:

See Gary, I told you those Mary's are great :happy34:

Looking forward to seeing you again Gary & hopefully meeting you Mary at MD this year.

  13. Extremely tough one for me considering this is how I'm spoiled now (thanks to Mary allowing the indulgence of the 2nd hobby / lifestyle without complaint)

I'd probably, ultimately go with Robin Trower's "Bridge of Sighs" if I was pressed into it today. The "FAVE" changes every couple of months though. Other likely candidates would include (all ideally on LP rather than CD assuming it could be played back on proper gear):

    Steely Dan - earlier stuff

Allman Bros - Eat a Peach

Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus (you can see that one in the middle above)

Fleetwood Mac - Live (LP only)

Dire Straits - pre Brother in Arms

Earl Klugh - Soda Fountain Blues

James Newton Howard - JNH and Friends

  14.

WilCruise , If you like it, the next target is something my dad (a truck driver) says can be found in most areas of the country. So Here Goes...

You and your bike and a real life Round Barn in the pic. If not quite round, at least an octagon, we saw one of each on the ride yesterday, so I know they are out there.

Good Luck, Scooter Bob and Karen

That fits the Bill... We have a winner of another round! :happy34:

  15. In MA it would depend on timing IMO. Cape Cod (and perhaps Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket - just a ferry ride away) is nice, but weekends in the Summer are hell to ride due to traffic. Farther West (which may be easier on a Summer New England run) Mt. Graylock is pretty neat with cool access roads. It's the highest point in MA.

More touristy stuff would include either Plymouth Plantation (East coast) or Sturbridge Village (more West). This all assumes you'd want to avoid the downtown traffic and hectic pace of driving in Boston - which is otherwise a great city.

Best rides IMO would be back roads to Sturbridge - then to Graylock then on to the rest of New England.

Best scenery would be Plymouth, Cape & Islands assuming you can avoid weekend traffic in the Summer.

If you hit NH make sure to ride the Kancamagus Highway and hit Hurricane Mountain Road along the way. It's a relatively short run but some of the most fun you'll find if you like to lean. We did a VentureRider NorthEast gathering there a couple of years ago and it was great!
