Hi guy; I can't give recommendations, but I can report on my past experience & current year's bill. Remember - I have a full blown Trike with custom paint & gobs of accessories. Ins. Co.: Dairyland Insurance Co. Bike: Photos delivered to Ins. Co. (showing custom paint & accessories) 2002 RSV Midnight - 2008 Hannigan - Carbon1 Aux. Tank - Tach kuryakyn grips & pegs - chrome grill - & many others Coverage: Program - Gold 50/100 50/100 50000 50/100 50000 250 250 (incl. collision) Experience: Old RSV went down in 2011 along exit ramp in MI - about $3000 damage quick easy appraisal & repair. They wanted to raise my rate, but I merely sent them NOAH weather reports of the storm I was in & they didn't. Cost: per year $481.60 BTW: Whenever I call them, I speak to someone who speaks ENGLISH WELL! There you go - no bias, just facts. Feel free to make me feel bad by finding a better deal, but please share it if you do. JB

I've searched for 10 minutes so far... Does anyone have a link to info about a member who modifies & stuffs the stock seat for better comfort & fit? I just can't find it & my seat feels like it was modified to be lower for a shorter/smaller rider. A certain part of me gets crushed into the end of the gas tank & I need to get it altered if I can. Yea-I didn't intend to paste links

It is simply amazing what people... Say KNOW HEARD SAW WERE BRAIN WASHED THINK just amazing - when it is legal, I wonder how many sharp smart thinkers will come forward & say I did it many times & still have a brain that can run rings around the alcohol drinkers. It certainly is an amazing time to be alive, with a sharp mind. The future will tell how well everyone KNOWS. Expectations were met for this topic - GRIN JB

Hi Greg; I looked up my stuff from the Win8 support... If you don't want to upgrade to Win8.1 you need to run: - SkipMetroSuite (skips silly app menu on boot) - ClassicShell (gives you classic start menu - then google "uninstall metro apps" & uninstall all those app menu programs you can. It won't be perfect, but it will be better. BTW - ClassicShell is even good on Win7, Server 2008 & 2012. It has lots & lots of advance options - even will allow setting up RDP rebooting on Win7 & Win8 workstations. JB

----------------- Classic start will work & make it sort of work like Win7 - but just not quite. The core of the OS (code dealing with hardware) is very different from Win7. Meanwhile the Win8 apps (created primarily for tablets) will pop their heads up & frustrate the heck out of you. I've registry hacked & uninstalled all the Win8 tablet apps I can. The biggest problem is for drivers or programs which generate virtual devices needing to work with the new OS core. BSODs are easy to get then. As a VMware engineer, I run 16gb of ram & 2 SSD for my virtual lab. I took the path of least resistance & passed that laptop base & Win8.1 to my wife who just uses web mail & Facebook - then i moved my drives & memory to my old I7 where everything works like magic. I've supported Win8 since it was in beta for a large company. Four dozen Win8 systems were setup, by me to support customers trying to use their Win8 laptops to do on-line banking. Even the developers/testers hate it! Classic Start was setup as soon as it was out. I left there & now support about 2000 VM servers & workstations so... There seem to be others here who have much more knowledge of Windows 8.1 on this board so you might want to listen to their statements. Good luck in yor decision JB

Gee - I guess I know nothing about Win8... A+, CCNA ,CISA tested, CNE-5, FCC Broadcast, MCSE-NT4-2000-2003 haha I'll change my career to Walmart Greeter handing out smiles.

Naaa - Vista is still the worst of them. You can do a clean build of Vista & still get a BSOD by the 3rd boot. Windows 8.1 takeas at least 10 boots - yes 8.1 will BSOD That is my opinion only which may not be based on scientific data. After all, I'm an old biker. jb

------------------------------------- I agree, unless you have a Touch Screen, don't aggravate yourself with Windows 8.1. Stick or replace with Windows 7. JB

Actually? Aren't most of the core components made in China? BUT - I just replaced my AGM that lasted only 10 months also. RATS! I just replaced it with an AC Delco AGM (made in China?). Some of the new AGM's even have as little as a 30 day warranty. What the heck? BTW - I have an AGM now that charges fine - reads 14+ volts, but gives the cranking current of a D-Cell battery. Free for pickup? Hahaha The worst of it was explaining to my wife that the wonderful AGM battery bought last year died in less than a year & I had to buy another one. That was a difficult conversation. jb

cryptolocker malware trashes your windows machine...
First_N_Last replied to a topic in Watering Hole
Hi Jay; The Trike is doing fine after swapping out a bad Dynatek 3000 (another post). Don't forget to disconnect your backup drive from the network afterwards. My wife got hit with something 3 days ago. Our AVAST! software immediately caught it - rebooted - started a low level virus scan. The scan took 3 hours to complete on an 8GB I7 system with a 256gb SSD & 1TB SATA. We were lucky! -
For server users, ClassicShell also works well on Server2008.

This is for all the members who end up getting a new laptop with Windows 8 or 8.1 installed. YOU WILL MOST LIKELY HATE IT! NO WORRIES - YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY WINDOWS 7 There is a freeware app that can give you back the START Button option to have the system start to the desktop with a START button option the Windows key to launch the desktop instead of the Startup screen The app is called Classic Shell. With just a download & a little effort you can end up with an easy to use Windows 8 system with a usable START Button & normal Windows desktop. www classicshell net is the website (don't forget the dots) Here is a little blurb: Classic Shell™ is free software that improves your productivity, enhances the usability of Windows and empowers you to use the computer the way you like it. The main features are: Highly customizable start menu with multiple styles and skins Quick access to recent, frequently-used, or pinned programs Find programs, settings, files and documents Start button for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 Toolbar and status bar for Windows Explorer Caption and status bar for Internet Explorer Classic Shell has been in active development for 4 years and has over 10 million downloads. The latest version of Classic Shell is 4.0.2

This problem & it's symptoms could have been a lot of different things. GEES - that was the biggest issue for me. ARGH! I was depressed that I couldn't fix it quickly! Thanks for your thoughts.
-
YES - you replied before I finished - haha

Now I had to decide what to do with my bad DynaTek unit. I emailed Dynatek about the issue & explained the whole history of the symptoms. I probably gave them two much information. They were skeptical & suggested all kinds of things to be checked. After a few emails, they relented & to my surprise, gave me a RA number to return the unit. After about a month, my defective DynaTek 3000 was replaced & sent back to me. DynaTek is a good company that stands behind their products. Many THANKS to them. This spring I will be installing my brand new USB setup 3000 TDI. That is it - what a pain this was & now I really appreciate my quick starting RSV (that most of us have). LOL

Puzzled with the previous symptoms, the Hard Starting really became a problem. One morning I pushed on the starter switch - the engine turned a little & locked. After 2 more tries it slowly turned & started. The battery voltage was dropping so low during this that the trip odometers & time would reset. That symptom progressed as I tried: disabled the alarm system with the thought that it was draining the battery - charged the battery - no change I bought a new battery - after 1 day - same problem I began to think that perhaps I had a RSV key switch problem. Weather kept me from working on it for a few days. I had a memory of my Power Car days. There was a time as performance of my car was increased to a point where the stock battery was not delivering enough amps to turn the engine over. A temp fix I had was to retard the timing until I could upgrade the battery. Then I had an IDEA! I pulled my DynaTek 3000 & flipped the switches back & forth tinkig of possible bad connections - no change then I changed the mode to below stock - no change lastly I replaced the DynaTek with the stock TDI ???? After I changed the TDI to stock, I set the choke, then I touched the starter switch... In a blink of the eye, the engine started & purred. YES! Two weeks later, I was certain of the symptoms being solved. WOW
-
Over a period of four months, many symptoms were noted before it got bad enough for me to dig deep enough to correct the issue causing the symptoms. This post is to share the experience. The symptoms started subtly & slowly in May. So slowly, that it was hard to notice the changes. starting started to require a twist of throttle days later, more rpm was required to start moving from a stop weeks later, pinging slowly developed 2k to 3k engine loads at high end later, moving from stop required 2.5K+ or you'd stall I changed from regular to high test & pinging was solved & moving from stop was ok the high test worked for a few weeks, the... pinging started lightly again... At this point I researched the TPS unit. Then I checked it's operation. It was within spec. I checked the pinging with partial choking & the pinging remained. Now I was really puzzled????

cryptolocker malware trashes your windows machine...
First_N_Last replied to a topic in Watering Hole
This is a bump for the thread... DON'T TRUST YOUR AV SOFTWARE TO STOP THIS! Now is a particular dangerous time to get this virus. The company where I am assigned, had one workstation get infected. The person was using web mail. The delivery of the Malware was disguised as... UPS Tracking information EMail about a package delivery. Clicking on the tracking number started the infection process. 1st step was immediate disable of Symantec EndPoint AV at 4:30PM. By 11:PM it had completed setup to start encrypting all local MS Office files. Around 2:00AM it started to encrypt all files on every network mapped drive it was attached to. At 8:00AM, my work started & the company was unable to do much of anything. Luckily this company had multiple backup solutions operating & I had everything restored within hours. Here is some more info: The malware is sophisticated in getting past antivirus programs, infecting computers via several surreptitious steps: after victims get the first spam email, the attachment that a victim opens downloads a separate application, which downloads malware that finally downloads Cryptolocker. The takeaway advice... is to make regular backups of all key files, be careful about opening email attachments, particularly from unknown senders, and don’t follow unsolicited web links!!!! -
Thanks for the pics - now I have something else to do. LOL jb mine were all tight
