  1. I bought my ignition awhile back, programed it once and lost the cd that came with it. anyway, i downloaded the v80 software from ignitech and tried to load a new map and it says the v80 software is not compatible with the ingnition i have (v88) so the program button is greyed out. any body have the v88 version? or know whats going on? Thanks guys!!

PM me an email address and I will send you V88.

I have to zip it or it won't go through email.

There was a firmware/hardware change from V80 to V88, they are not compatible. You can load a V80 map file into V88 and it will update it.

  2. Darn, I just saw this answer back to me on the bolt. I do not know the length but will take my right one out tomorrow and check. If you still have it let me know what you want. I am also trying to figure out how to attach a drink holder and I see Kuryakyn has one that mounts under these bolts. But I will check mine out and let you know. Top looks right. Thanks

    Postage cost and its yours.

  3. I have both of them in the garage. I can set both of them on rear wheel of Hybrid this weekend & see if offset is the same.

Rotor diameter is the same I know 320mm. The caliper offset is probably the same.

I have an excel sheet I created showing info I have collected about various Yamaha brakes and it shows RSV has slightly smaller 'B' piston in rear caliper. This would lead to a little less force imparted on the pads on the RSV. Difference is about 12% greater on the MKII's.

    PDF of sheet attached.

Picture shows an MKII rotor on a VMax wheel with an RSV caliper and mounted in an RSV swing arm. Don't try this at home kids !!!

    Gary

The MKII caliper fit up exactly the same as the RSV caliper did on my project bike. Even though components are different on mine, this shows the MKII offset is the same as an RSV caliper.

Pictures attached. Caliper used was a front caliper, but I know the left front & rear are the same, other than bleeder screw location.

  4. So keep seeing a couple o drops on bottom of the filter cover finally got under it and took a good look come to find out someone has bottomed the bike one to many times and bent the bottom of where the filter goes not the cover but the piece on the motor think it will be ok once it warms up it quits dripping so going to keep an eye on it don't want to take a chance on it cracking if I try to straighten it any other ideas :whistling::confused24:

PM me. I have a spare good oil pan.

But the part that is bent is on the lower block, not the oil pan. Whole different replacement problem.

  5. You can get it from a lot of places.

You want 4AWG welding cable or battery cable.

One place is McMaster-Carr #6948K921 for black and #6948K922 for red. You can also find the terminals there.

Most places that sell Marine supplies or parts for custom car building will have it.

What Jeff posted is adequate, if you want the good stuff McMaster Carr numbers are below. Electric tends to flow along the surface of any given wire. The cable below has over a 1000 strands in it that supposedly allow better conductivity of current. This cable only comes in orange, but you could put heat shrink over it. Very flexible easy to route .

Picture of cable attached from McMaster, they nicked conductors not me. Below it is stock cable.

7818A11 Heavy Duty Welding Cable, #4 Cable Size, .420" Overall Od $3.64 per foot.

7113K249 Standard Ring Terminal, Noninsulated, 4 Awg, 1/4" Screw/stud Size $10.65 for pack of ten.

  6. If you are that far in there, I would replace the 8 barrel diodes that have been known to fail. All the ones that have failed looked good also when new. I don't know what causes the failures of the diodes, probably moisture contributes to it.

But once they fail, the TCI is pretty much junk.

Picture is of bad diodes in center of photo. One has already fallen off, wires on either end are visible just above the two blue & gray diodes in center.

  7. You were voted in as an honorary WNY member.....wait ..... Weren't you were the guy who refused to wear a helmet in this state......also, ROCKNROBIN has your shirt....YOU ask her to give it to you.:stirthepot:

No, I was the guy that you waved out of the parking lot at Pioneer and you didn't tell me NY had a helmet law. It took a good Canadian to let me know about 50 miles later, after we had passed at least two cops sitting in the median. Thanks Wayne !!

And I don't have a problem asking Robin, I gave her a patch at international that she had on her vest about an hour later. "Why yes it is a F#####g Yamaha" She owes me one !!!

    :fingers crossed:

  8. Blow some air in them easyaly and you shouldnt have pushed them in all the way. My two cents been there. Yoop

Be cautious doing this. Use a c-clamp to gradually move piston out slowly. If you blow one out before getting other close, you then have no easy way of moving one still in caliper.

You need to clamp BOTH pistons & block off crossover passage.

  9. So what are you saying? The 2 gen back caliper will fit on first gen with improve//// Yoopments?

  10. gonna go back in and run a wire thru the pilot jets. the pipe is not getting as hot and as quick as the others, but i think i'm on the right track sluggish on the bottom end. as far as the weak spark wiggled the connectors at the tci. now got a big fat spark! so got some cleaning to do there. remember this bike has only been rode 2365 miles since 1994! wheres the fuel filter on this thing? got to name her too. gonna post some pics when i get her done. thanks to all for helping!:cool10:

Left side in area of passenger foot peg. Go to Autozone to match one up. May have to McGyver mount a little.

  11. OK I see by your profile you have a MK2. Probably the best thing you can do is replace your old calipers with Yamaha R1 calipers. The cost to rebuild your calipers will end up being waaay more than what a good set of R1's off Fleabay...

Poster is indicating his rear brake is the problem.

I have tried a wide variety of front calipers on my 83 to improve them. One thing I have not tried to do is upgrade the rear as much. The RSV's have a rather touchy rear brake system due to it is too good. This can cause bike to be high sided in a 'panic' type stop.

I am with Bob completly on cost can be high to rebuild caliper and skill level & tools needed. But there is such a thing as 'Too much brakes'.

This is primary reason I am very hesitant to let anyone ride Tweety (83), the front brakes on bike are far superior to any Venture, they are to the point they can be dangerous to someone not familar with high performance braking.

The MKII's have a rear quad piston caliper & a 320mm floating rotor. Pretty good setup when working well.

  12. OK Gary I want number to be 127 then set the app to pick an number between 126 and 128 Thank You.:whistling::thumbsup2::stirthepot:

Well Then you could still lose, since you have a 2 integer spread in inputs, the number could be from 126.001 to 127.999

Right of decimal point values droped, then selected number is either 126 or 127.

Is this how you are asking me to set it up ???

  13. My 89 would crank like that too. Then when it got good and hot and I'd stop for fuel it would barely turn to start back up. Sometimes it'd kick off, others I'd need to let it cool, jump or push start it.

With the V-Max starter it'll crank like your video when it's well heat soaked.

    Also, a 1999-2012 Ventures have a 4 brush starter.

Sometimes cheaper than a VMax, that name seems to be worth a premium to many.

  14. There is a trunk bumper rail that is two 1/2 chrome rails a couple inches apart (and they had matching lower light rails for the bottom also at one time) that wrap around the trunk.

I've got dozen of pics of bikes from this site and I don't have any of this set up.

No need to pull your bags as these sit much higer up. But thanks for the offer.

I have just a few, see if these help.

I still have the light bar, probably going to put it on Tweety at some point.

This was an 83/84. Ended up parting it out, strangest thing, these blue ones don't seem nearly as fast.

  15. This is so cool:cool10::):)

Love all the parts to make the bracelets and necklaces, gives me a good reason to paint some more on them.

Totally love all the turquoise.... Tomorrow that pump is getting checked out and we will see.:cool10:

Dingy thankyou and who wins the part??

I will find something to donate to St. Jude auction, they need it more than the slackers on here. !!

  16. Shifter shaft issue has been resolved. One of my model shop machinists at day job reworked a 1st gen and a 2nd gen shafts for me on his lunches.

I needed a longer shaft to accommodate the forward control linkage setup. I couldn't use the 2nd gen shaft as it was due to larger O.D. I had him cut 1st gen shaft just past the lip seal on the left side. Then he cut 2nd gen shaft off at a point were it and the now modified 1st gen shaft would equal the unmodified 2nd gen shaft length. He drilled & tapped both shafts and a case hardened threaded dowel will be used to join them. Red loctite int 1st gen shaft & blue loctite on 2nd gen side. This way, if I ever need to get back into motor, the shaft can be split and slid out of case.

It's a plan, it may fail though. Worst I can see happening is the threaded dowel breaks, which will leave me stuck in whatever gear I happen to be in. Doubt any catastrophic type failure will happen if this occurs.

Fuel tank is getting frequent flyer miles, off to receive some customization. One of our sponsoring vendors, Ace High Leathers is doing a little bit of work on it for me. She needed tank for fitment. This bike is gonna look different.

Progress is being made, target is to have it ready by MD at Oberlin, 1st week of June.

  17. So I guess I will have to pack some extra relays to quick hook up to run all of the lighting when I have TWO trailers to bring home. I'll look like a train going down the road. That nice new shiny one that I am going to win, will make a nice caboose. I just have to rig a ball on the back of my current trailer.

    Jeff,

I don't think you have an issue here.

Since you have to leave Tuesday & trailer donation handed out Wednesday, you gotta come back and get it.

    :rasberry: :rasberry:

By the way, I volunteer to eat your Happy meal at Wednesday dinner, Thanks Bud !!!!
