  1.   Some freinds and I took our annual ride up to the cabin together.  Had a great time.   Can't beat friends you've had since childhood.  Only got caught in the rain once,  lol...DOWNPOUR for about a half hour, but we dried out and went back out.   Based near Sinnamahoning, travelled a lot of 2 lanes through the mountains, went back to the cabin for adult beverages and cigars.   Had a nice bull elk hanging around the whole weekend, ....didn't seem to mind us at all.

Already looking forward to next year.

I will put in for a maybe for now and update as it gets close it would be nice to meet you all in person, and enjoy some KY Bourbon.

Been to 8 or 10 of these "Get togethers" and it's always a great time.  Good people, generally like minded who like to have a good time.

I've always enjoyed myself, and wish I could attend them all, but life gets in the way.

  3.   Replaced the headlight, had to replace the ring that holds it in place, and straighten the bucket that it sits in.

All in all, I'm VERY fortunate that the frozen bottle hit directly into the headlight, as it had enough force that if it had hit the plastic body directly, or the radiator, or the windshield, it would have done MUCH more damage.

Still pretty upset that some jackwad would do this, but feeling grateful that it wasn't worse.

      Life goes on.

  4.   Lisa and I (and the Pomeranians) took the motorhome to a friends farm for the weekend.   Had a great time.   Old friends, a campfire and a cooler of beer...what's not to like?

Anyways, we're driving the motorhome home yesterday around lunchtime, and we're on a 2 lane, 55mph country road and I see an oncoming car ahead, and I notice him roll down the drivers window and hang his hand out...strange, but ok......Then, as we're passing, he lobs a frozen bottle of water at us, breaking a headlight and cracking the surrounding plastic.

We're in a motorhome, with no easy turn around, so nothing I could do but keep rolling.

So, what did this person get out of that...What triumph was there....

WTF is wrong with people?   😠

  5. I've 2 Ventures.   A first gen and a second.

The first gen has been sitting for 6 or 7 years now, and I'd give it a going over and sell it because I don't ride it anymore, but decided to keep it and get it going when I retire.   Still have 4 or 5 years left.   I don't want to get rid of it 'cause I remember what a fantastic bike it was to ride.   Great power and handling for a sport touring bike, but my second gen is more comfortable for cruising.   My tushie loves the pillow top seat, too.

Point being:   Don't give up on that first gen.......A good running one is hard to beat.

  6. For what it's worth.

I replaced the crank bearings on an 87 Honda XR600 once, and when re-assembling, I was very concerned that I couldn't shift the thing by hand.   Went over it a few times but couldn't find an issue.   I ended up putting it back together and it shifted fine.   I never did figure out exactly why.

  7. I have an 85 Honda Nighthawk 700S that's had that problem, so I tightened it up a bit, ...tried the "fallaway method".  Then tightened it a tad more.   Haven't ridden it since.   What happens if that last 1/4 turn was too much?   Still turns easily....

Just curious.   Easy thing to adjust.

  8. Charged the battery, aired up the tires, (Back was down to 20)..Cleaned her up a bit and went for a 3 mile ride...then back in the shed / under the cover.   Still need to change the oil.

Then washed 4 vehicles, waxed 3 of them, and was too wore out to do anything but get on the couch and log onto VR.

  10. Back before we had this fancy internet thing available....or at least before I was aware of it....I drove from NE Ohio (Youngstown) to Philly to buy a KZ1000 frame that they didn't actually have.

I called a salvage yard looking for one and they said they had one....Then called again a week later, before making the 7 hour drive and was assured they had it, but when I got there I was told there may be a bent one somewhere in that "pile" in the yard.    Spent an hour looking through "The pile" but no luck.   They were apathetic about my complaint that they assured me they had something they didn't.    What could I do but head home.

  11.  I certainly understand .     I sometimes question the wisdom of it, but I still feel the benefits outweigh the risk.   There's a feeling I get riding that I haven't been able to get otherwise.    I think of when I first take the bike out of it's Winter resting spot, ( Heated shed) and go for the first ride of the year.....Man...that feels great....I instantly remember why I enjoy riding.   Wish I could do it more...As I age I can see where I'll eventually want to give it up, but not there yet.

As part of my job, I regularly use ladders to get up on commercial roofs;  I'll be doing it today.   I seem to mind that more then I did when I was younger but still have to, as it's part of my job, so I still do it.   Like when riding, now, I'm a bit more cautious and thoughtful before jumping on or off that ladder. Transitioning from ladder to roof or roof to ladder is always the scary part.

We all need to decide how to handle the risk / reward  thing for ourselves.

      Godspeed.

  12.     I never was much into the whole Harley thing.   A lot of folks think "If it ain't a Harley, it ain't s##t".    That attitude was always a real turn off to me.

I've always been a Honda or Yammy fan, and you can't deny the styling of first or second gen Ventures.   Add to that the reliability and the performance...especially of the first gens, and it's a no brainer to me.    Let's not forget the bang for the buck aspect either.    As I'm getting older, I'm starting to look at 3 wheels.    I worry more than I used to about flats and keeping the bike upright, whether rolling or stopped, ....especially when Lisa's on the back.   There's probably a Can Am in my future, but I can't imagine ever giving up my Venture(s) , although some day I'll have to.

As for Yammy,  I'd have to agree that they'll have a hard time competing against the likes of Harley and Indian, only because they're considered the "Cool" bike, regardless of other factors.

  13.   Lisa and I went and saw an ABBA Tribute band last night at the Woodward Theater in Mt. Vernon, OH.    Woodward Theater is claimed to be the oldest still functioning opera house in the US.

Wasn't quite ABBA, but still a fun night.

Those so inclined were welcomed to dance on the floor level, and I was surprised to see just how many folks were down there having a good time   I believe it was called an ABBA Dance Party.

Name of the band was Dancing Queen.   If they perform down your way, you may want to check them out.
