  1. I had a previous thread about this ride, but neither Beth or I knew when we could get vacation.

Well, we have a choice to make now:

    A) Last two weeks of July

    B) First two weeks of September

What do you recommend, and why?

    Thanks again for everyone's help.

  2. Our 5th annual wine party is this coming Saturday, Feb.19th....wine of choice this year is Shiraz...or Syrah, depending on what part of the world it's from. Warm ups start at 7:00, and the "official" tasting begins at 8:00 sharp. Keep the cost of your bottle under $30, keeping in mind that last years winner was $4.95 U.S.(Barefoot Merlot)

Here's how it works....I take your bottle of wine, wrap it in a paper bag, # it.....and when the tasting time arrives, they are all set out, and the score sheets are given to those that want to rate the wines, according to their tastes. The score sheets are added up at the end of the wine tasting, and a "winer" is declared, along with the next 4 top rated so that you can rate your tasting against the "official results". Last year we sampled 19 different bottles, and had 60 winos attend.....it is a lot of fun.

So, if you plan to attend, let me know, I'll get you our address and telephone #. There's a spare bed and 2 spare couches...and lots of floor space to share with the dog and cat Speaking from past experience, the food available is awesome, the mix of people is very entertaining, and it is a GREAT way to break up a long, bleak, cold, dreary, snowy, did I mention COLD winter?

  3. I was up trying not to die from Acid reflux...... meds are working now so may have to take a nap......

I take Nexium daily Kreger.....but when it gets to acting up, Maalox anti-gas tabs, chew one up quick, let another slowly dissolve.....sometimes a couple of times, will do the trick. Is the head of your bed raised???, makes a big difference in holding the acid at bay in your gut....I've been fighting it for 38 years now.....small meals, no late snacks, throttled way back on oranges and green peppers(nice combination)....and yogurt with probiotics really seems to help calm things down as well when I eat it on a regular basis......hope this helps some

  4. Yesterday was a sunny day here back home as well Gary, and beautiful IF you enjoy a high of -12.....last night with the wind chill about -28...or so.

I don't ride with boozers....any vehicle that requires the use of ten fingers and ten toes to operate, kind of dictates full capacity gray matter involvement as well.....so.....it's my choice, and I'd rather ride sober.

I too enjoy Dave's suggestion, perhaps there were some followers...who just needed a leader as great as you are. I've always thoroughly enjoyed riding with you and Mary....keep it up!

  5. One of our issues, Beth and I that is....is getting vacation time off together. I'm the bottom guy...I get what's left over. Last year we got the first two weeks of September without any issues.....it may end up the same again this year...we have to see how it pans out. I can usually get time off in June and September relatively easy...we just have to make sure that where we want to ride is ok with that kind of timing.

What dates are you planning on riding there? I can try to get vacation time then....we're looking at two weeks, probably 3 days to get there, and a 3 day ride back home. And, THANKS for the offer randy.

  6. 29 degrees over there Boss? Wow! Same here!

There's a large group from our local SCRC #334 going over that way this year....I'm just not much for oversized crowds like that.....Port Dover on a Friday the 13th wears real thin on me in a few hours....funny how things change. Ahem...er...30 years ago I would have been in the thick of it...not now.

We're getting a feel for what time is best to go....I'd really like to go the first two weeks of September.....just don't want to ride in snow! I get enough of that here at home

It's been a long time "bucket list" item for me to get to Deadwood, ever since that series on television a few years back. Colorado is also part of the list....and we have to get over to D.C. as well, visit all the museums and stuff there....and the list goes on...and on...it seems to grow a heck of a lot quicker than I have vacation time for. The balloon festival in Albequerque, New Mexico......oh man, it never stops!

Anyways, I appreciate your and everyone else's input and insights into my request, and someday I hope to respond in kind!

  7. STAY WARM? We are freezing..Brad moves down here we get cold weather....Now JRichard is down here and it snows, freezes, sleets...Whats up with all this mess?? I want my WARM weather back!

    LOL! Dang northerners!!

    gunk:stickpoke:

  8. Yep, sure did Tom....then I performed last rites...called in the local neighborhood priest....tried reading the manual..imagine that, I even read the dang manual...and it still has issues.

Thanks for the tip though....stay warm down there!

  9. Well, our zumo 550 has locked up....Beth used it last fall for deer widow's weekend, and had issues with it......we tried using it a couple of weeks ago and it was a no go...wouldn't "open" up.....I tried updating the maps today...and it wouldn't go past the initial page, something about saving trip data and the usb being hooked up....so I guess it goes back to Garmin for some TLC......it's been awesome up to this point, hopefully the repairs won't tear us up $$$ wise...and we should have it back before riding season, which is still 2-3 months away for us up this way, or thereabouts depending on Mother Nature.

    gunk:think:

  10. Pardon my lack of knowledge of the area...but is the weather still ok in the mountain passes to ride comfortably?

We would like to miss out on all the crazies, that's for sure.....but we do enjoy warm weather when we ride. Is there a "rainy" season/time of year there to watch out for?

    gunk:think:

  11. Beth has decided that this year it's the Black Hills, Deadwood, Sturgis, Spearfish and all for our vacation ride.

When is the best time to ride these parts? We don't want to be part of the rally in Sturgis, but would like to have been there type thing before the mad rush.

So, weather wise......realizing that ol' Mother Nature doesn't always co-operate.....when do you think is the best time to head that way?

    gunk:think:

  12. Gunk, We do our part!!! :rasberry:

Well, it was quite the night last night at work....snow, brutal winds...then rain, freezing rain, more snow..and the winds!

Not as much snow as expected, maybe 8 inches or so.....I must say, Beth's car was awesome going in to work last night, the roads were not good, drifted over with rather large drifts...some up over 3 feet.....that Infiniti M35x is a great machine....a little tough on fuel, but a great car in weather like this. Storm has cleared this area, and now it's going to get cold again...-12 or worse tonight...I'll be glad when my night shifts are done for this cycle.

So, Texas...thanks for thinking of us.....but next time, we'll just let it slip by, OK?

    gunk:whistling:

  13. Well, you folks in Texas are really going to put it to us this time...or so the weatherman says.....they have to blame somebody, right?

They're guesstimating approximately 35 cm's in the next 24 hours.....well over a foot! How the heck is Wiarton Willie....Poughkeepsie Pete's cousin...ever going to see his shadow?

This has been a real winter here in southern ontario....cold, cold, cold, more snow than the historical averages.....wow!

I guess on the plus side...if it's coming from Texas....it's gonna be "warm" snow, right?

    gunk:doh:

  14. Well, in all honesty, I really don't think I'll be buying another bike...at all. I really enjoy the Midnite Venture that I have, it's only 7 years old, only has 110,000 k's on it, and it's dressed up the way I like it...almost. There's still some more to add......

I'm in my 55th year....I don't see the need to change out of something I like. Wasting money way too close to retirement for me. I like what I've got, it runs like a charm, looks good, feels good, smells good, tastes good........

I'm thinking when I'm done with it, it will have been triked....and when I can't handle that, I'll pass it on to someone else who appreciates what is has been and still would be.

They just ain't cheap(I guess I am), retirement isn't that far off(I hope and pray)and it's barely broken in.

    So why change?

  15. This sounds like a great start can anyone advise me as to which Dyna I wouold require for my 2005 RSTD. And thanks alot to all of you for your kind help

See my reply above for sites.....and they've certainly gone up in price since I purchased mine...but still totally worth it.

  16. I'm curious. I've been thinking about installing a 3000 in the '99... as soon as I come up with some spare change... :) I've looked at Dyna-Tek's web site, Ebay, as well as others, an keep coming up with two different pics for the 3000. One has a two port plugin and the other has three. Yet they are both listed as fitting the RSV. Is this just a case where one pic fits all, and what I'd get will be right?? Or.... have they changed configurations?? The reason I'm a little gun shy on which one is correct is I remember one of our members buying a used TCI off an Ebay seller and it came with two ports and he needed three... or visa versa.

Usually the seller on e-bay will say up front which model fits which bike. There are modules for just about every bike out there. I'll go out to the garage and see if I can find my old one....the one in my garage is the 3 port, and my venture is a 2004...I am assuming that yours will be the same, as they changed the model in 1999. Someone else will jump in and verify this I'm sure.

  17. If you do the Dyna 3000, (or is someone else has it), let me know what you think. I'm thinking I might do that before summer just to get more revs out of it.

I've had the Dyna installed for 4 years now in ours. Wouldn't look back, I'd be doing it again in a heartbeat. Changes this machine big time......literally walks over an identical venture without it. Yup, buddy of mine had the same bike and he couldn't believe the difference between the two after the Dyna install in ours.

    Do it, don't hesitate!

  18. Thanks. We are in Corbin Ky tonight so we'll be hitting Atlanta early afternoon tomorrow. Don't think we'll be stopping. Staying at Elko Ga. tomorrow night.

The original Colonel Sanders is in Corbin, stopped there in September on our way home from Texas....make sure you stop in and have a few chunks of "finger lickin' good" for me would you Gary?
