Just saw on CNN that comedian/actor Dom Deluise has passed away at 75.
I grew up with his comedy. He was one of a kind. I know ill miss him.That totally sucks. This is bull pucky!!!

I'm planning a possible trip to see a friend in Washington, In. this weekend. This is a meeting point for both of us and we were thinking of a possible motorcycle ride since i'll be on mine. (he doesn't have one YET!!!) Does anyone know of any rental places around this area?

I really wish I had a good answer for you. There is a procedure in the service manual for testing the resistance of the primary and secondary sides. The procedure is incorrect for the secondary side as it says to read resistance from the plug wire to the center core and that will always read open. You have to read from the plug wire to one of the posts on the primary side.
That being said, the one that I just replaced reads fine when I check it that way. It also appeared to be fine when I checked the fuel mixture using my Colortune. It was apparently breaking down under load though.
So....I honestly don't know of a reliable way to test them. Maybe somebody else will have some input.

I used to work on cars for a living. If bike coils are the same, which i'm sure they are, then a coil can read good while checking it cold. However after running it up to temp. it may then start to give faulty readings, as the heat causes the internal wiring to heat up and creates more resistance. I recommend that if you suspect a faulty coil, bring it to opperating temp. and then check it. Hope this helps. Also if anyone knows something I don't please share!!!

Jimmy Buffett, no question! I have the box set if that is legal, if not then any album would do for me. He's the kind of singer that you can sit back and drink a cold one to and never get tired of listening to.

This looks very simular to one I purchased from autozone. Mine is only a brake light. Only paid 19.99 for it but had to put silicone around the area where it splits apart. Very easy install and very bright. Hope this helps.

I would like to get my carbs sync'd. I bought this bike in January of 2008, and though I am impressed with the bike, I have read some things that make me wonder if it is really in sync. Is it possible that there may be more hidden power and torque?!!! Plus I don't think the previous owner did anything but ride it, and I haven't sync'd them since i've owned it. Anyway, regardless of if there is more the bike has to offer or not I would like to actually get to know some of you guys more than just on a computer.

Since I have never been to a M. D. event, I was wondering how things get paid for. I am assuming that Don does not cover the cost of food for everyone. So how does it work? Do we pitch in a certain amount of cash? Do we bring something? Do we eat out? You get the idea, how does it work? I am looking forward to being there this year to meet all of you and hopefully share some fun experiances that will be talked about for years to come.

I payed about 182.00 shipped to my door via fed ex. This was the cheapest I could find them anywhere even without shipping. Just click on the Yamaha accessories on the left of the screen and search on the last page of the chrome accessories. Shipping was fast, and I have bought other things from them without any problems.

Ok the bike looks great but I want to know how much time does it take to take the bike apart? I was going to do it to mine last winter but couldnt make up my mind on what I wanted to do so I didnt want to have it sitting apart then when it was nice I am freaking out to get it done. I am going to tear her down this winter since I think I know what I want to do. Thanks and hope you enjoy your new bike!!
Well it depends on how much time you can spend each day! I have about 10-15 hours I figure into taking it apart, not counting taking all of the tail light, turn signals, and chrome off the rear fender. I have back problems and can't work as long and hard as many. I have done the tear down over a three day period. Also, I did all of the sanding and prep work before it went to paint. This included the removal of all of the hardware chrome and dirt. I started the project on a Saturday, on Tuesday I started all of the cleaning and silicone and wax removal. On Wednsday-Friday I wet sanded and preped for paint. Friday I took all of my parts to the bodyshop. The following Friday I picked them up. Saturday after work I started the reassembling about 16:30-22:30. Sunday I worked on it for about 6 hours, and Monday I worked on it for 7.5 hours. I rode to work on Tuesday, and then took a 200 mile round trip to show my buddy the bodyshop man, who then took pics in front of his sign. But man to have a ridable bike that looks this good for the money I paid is priceless. If you know what you want, tackle it this winter and don't be in a rush because it is tedious work, especially puting it back together. You'll love it in the end though!!!
Thank you all for your comments, I was hoping it would be liked by others also. But I guess I played it safe, I don't think anyone on here can dislike any venture.....even those antique 1st gens!!!

You have the sense of humor that me and my friends are shunned for. I must say however that you had me both disgusted and wanting to stop reading and laughing histerically at the same time. You are awesome. Great post! By the way I don't like thongs. (flip flops, as I was taught to call them growing up) I have on the other hand grown to love leather closed toe sandles. I hope to meet you and have a couple beers at Don's M.D. if you'll be there. I'll bring my camera so I can show all my friends what a grown man looks like in a thong. (p.s. I finally finished puting the bike back together about 22:30 last night and took it for a ride to make sure it was road worthy. Took it to work today and got out at 13:30, so I went for a 200 mile ride round trip to show my bodyshop guy the finished product. I can't say thank you enough to my wife and kids for putting up with me these last few weeks, now it's time to give them some time with me. everyone here loves the way this color turned out. I tried to get a good picture of the silver flake showing in the paint but I don't think it came out good. Maybe I'll be at Don's M.D., at least that is the plan if something from work doesn't interfere to stop me. I would like to sync my carbs if that is possible. Anyway here are the promised pictures. I still need to put on the venture tank emblems, and the cassette cover emblem. Still debating the chrome eyebrows on the faring. What do ya think??????

Well I got all of my parts back from the bodyshop tonight. I decided not to go with a pearl after all over the black. Instead, after looking at the paint panels he made for me to decide on which pearl to go with, I decided to go with a made for me color. I didn't like the pearls, wasn't what I was looking for. I had a plain black with silver metal flake mixed to my taste. Didn't like the paint chips that we had to look at, so I asked if he could do something half way between the lighter and darker colors we looked at. He told me that he could look at the recipes and see what he could make up. After doing that he mixed up a very pretty color that I was happy with. When I PICKED THE PARTS UP TONIGHT, IT WAS BETTER THAN I COULD HAVE IMMAGINED. More pics will follow as I get the time to reassemble the bike. work is very busy lately, they have me training the rest of the staff on a new handheld computer device we will be using at the hospital. I will be doing this for the next several weeks after my scheduled shifts, so i'll try to post as soon as I can.

What color or colors did you paint the bike ?
When I originally decided to paint the bike I was going to go with black with a white or blue pearl in the clearcoat. When I looked at the paint test panels that the bodyshop had done I decided not to go with the white pearl because it had a rainbow speckled appearance over black paint.....not what I had in mind, I was hopeing to see a charcoal look. I also looked at the blue pearl over black paint test panel and didn't like the midnight blue look either. I was hopeing both colors would be more hidden than they were. So after looking at paint chip after paint chip we settled on a custom mixed color to my specs......a VERY SHINY BLACK with some SILVER METAL FLAKE in it. It looks AWESOME, not too much metal flake to make it greyish in the sun, but not so little that you wonder if it is dust either. Looks like it is a dark charcoal when the light hits it. I will post some pics in another thread I had started last week, after it has been put together.
P.S. thanks to all of your replies in this thread. Yes....even you antique riding or owning first genners, I got a good laugh out of it.

:no-no-no::no-no-no: I tore apart my 99 Venture to paint it. While cleaning it yesterday I realized I had not disconnected the battery before disconecting all of the electrical conectors and the spedometer cluster. How badly did I screw up? I have not gotten the parts back to install on the bike and do not want to connect the cluster until I reassemble the bike. Has anyone ever done this and not had to spend the big bucks to fix it?......Please say it'll be ok, i'm just sick!!! Thanks for any input guys.

Reiny, I use a parker easy draw. These bows are designed for older hunters and hunters with disabilities that requirew a smoother easier draw. When I went in to buy a bow I looked at several different models and brands, most I could comfortably draw was about 45 lbs with my injuries in most bows. With the easy draw parker I bought, I'm pulling back 60 lbs. I have shot 3 deer with it and am in no hurry to upgrade any time soon. Very good quality and value for what you get. It is very quiet and smooth, and if you can find a last year model I payed a little over $500.00 for the bow completely dressed out with good quality accessories and 6 carbon fiber arrows plus a hard case at gander mountain.

That is a great way to lose weight. From all of the information at the hospital I work at, it is the healthiest also. It is however a slower way to lose weight and you'll reach a plateau now and again, so dont get discouraged if you don't lose weight after a short time. You may even gain a little sometimes. It is normal and the best way for your body to lose. The weight gain can be from muscle gain or from getting off track a little, NO BIG DEAL!!! Keep pushing forward.
My family and I have recently joined a local gym that offers personal trainers. They don't give us food suggestions, however, they take our goals and taylor a routine to help us accomplish them. We have been eating more lean protien and lots of fruits and veggies, while cutting down on bad carbs and soda and drinking plenty of water.
Keep pushing forward everyone, we can keep rootin eachother on and before you know it we'll all be skinny minnies and slim jims!!!!
