  1. There are a bunch of threads on here about this, below is a link to one I had started last year. I bought a set of Ultra Glide pipes to put on my 2005 RSTD, but haven't done it yet. You need to make a bracket (cost me 40$ to get them cut) so the exhaust will bolt up, or some guys use P-Clamps. Also, HD put the catalytic converter in the left pipe of some years (2010 - present I believe), so you want to make sure that you get a set without that. I can let you know how it turns out when I'm done.
  2. I will let you know when I figure it out. I put this on the back burner for now and invested my money into getting the seat re-done so I can reach the ground a little better.
  3. Hi All, My 2005 RSTD is running all stock bulbs in the front, and I don't find it bright enough when driving at night even with all lights on. I find the older I get the worse this problem seems to get. I am looking for your opinions on replacements. - HID or LED? - Replace Headlight bulb or whole headlight? I have been doing some research and have found that typically with just a LED bulb replacement it may not improve high beam lighting and pattern because most LED bulbs don't have a high beam reflector built in. What is your experience with this? Are there some bulbs with better than stock performance at both high and low? Also, I know that the headlight is an H4 bulb, what about the other smaller lights? The bike is in storage right now for the winter or I would just go check. Looking for real world experience on the same or similar bike, I have a hard time trusting online reviews. Seems like every product I look at is "new technology" and the "best on the market". Any help you can offer is appreciated.
  4. I found the plans for this style bracket (attached) online. It had all the measurements needed on it, so I took it to a local metal shop. They made me 2 of them from 1/4" aluminum and it only cost me about 40$ CAD. I still have to clean them up and paint them, so they are not mounted yet. I did a rough dry fit on one side and it looks like it will work without any modifications. Muffler bolt holes matched up perfectly to the Ultra Classic mufflers I picked up. Just waiting to get a new set of clamps before I can mount it up permanently.
  5. $23.00 seems pretty reasonable for this https://www.amazon.ca/Primus-Fuel-Bottle-Childproof-Cap/dp/B01E7CZ1R8/ref=asc_df_B01E7CZ1R8/?tag=googleshopc0c-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=293036632477&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7391463189042793205&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9000097&hvtargid=pla-408335571302&psc=1 Not sure how far your going to get on 1.5L, might need to get two of them!
  6. 85 XV1000 Virago I drove that bike for many years, she really was a great bike. I hate seeing her sitting in the garage, but it was time to upgrade. So last week I picked up this 05 Royal Star Tour Deluxe Big difference.
  7. Hi all, new to the forum and new to the Royal Star's. I know this subject has been asked and talked about a lot on the forum, so I apologize, but I haven't found any recent posts that answer some of my questions. Just picked up a 05 RSTD and was surprised by how quiet it was. My other bike is an 85 Virago XV1000, and it has aftermarket pipes, so it has a bit of bark. I have always liked a bit of sound to let cars around me know I am there. I have found that driving the RSTD I don't have the same level of confidence that cars know I am in their vicinity. I bought the RSTD to do some touring, so I am not looking to upgrade the pipes to an obnoxious sound level. I feel like this would become fairly annoying on long rides after some time on the road. I would however like to get a bit of sound and it seems like from my research that a set of stock Harley pipes will fit the bill, and that I can swap them out without having to re-jet. So here are my questions: 1) For an 05 RSTD what years and model HD pipes should I look for? Road Kings and Ultra's seem to be the most common but what years will fit the 05? 2) Does anyone make the brackets for this conversion? I found a post from 2010 where a member makes them but not sure if this information is still valid. 3) Am I looking for stock HD clamps as well or is there a recommendation on other clamps that some one can offer? Thanks for reading, any help you can offer would be appreciated.
