  1. I purchased a new Bridgestone  tire for the front on my 83 Venture ..It wanders from left to right and then back to left  at slow speeds ..If don't hang on the handle bars it would cross into the next lane of traffic  .I had the same problem with my 1995 XV1100 Virago till I changed the tire to a different brand name ..I have a new Dunlop on the rear ......It seems to okay out on the highway .I have checked all front end parts including steering head bearings ..( new bearings )..It has been checked by 3 mechanics and certified in a government safety inspection  before the new tire was installed ...

  2. Nice , I wanted to build one like that...My wife reminded me that I was spending too much money , I said the next time your car needs repair who are you going to call ...There such a thing that is called the right tools for the job.

  3. I have small 12 volt compressor I purchased for $65.87 ...It is about 8 inches long and  6 inches high with a pressure gauge and a 14 inch long hose with fittings

  4. I have riding a Virago XV1100 for the last 60000 miles ...I bought old 83 XVZ1200 Venture  with 75000 miles on it because the wife and I wanted a smoother ride ..If I like the ride , I would look for a newer Venture ...Question I would like to ask of all the Venture riders out is what year did they make some radical changes that would not break the bank  .... And what changes would there be ..

  5. I don't know a lot about keys or cutting them ..About 3 years ago I lost the keys for my bike ...I called a local lock service and they told me to check for number on the ignition lock assembly , and by the numbers that there were on the ignition  . They were able to cross check from guide that gave them the right key pattern ....It cost me a bit but it was less that it would have been to replace the ignition lock with keys .

  6. I am running some Carb problems on my 83 1200 , and rather than put a large amount of cash into the old carbs I would  make a single Carb manifold ...The difficulty I see is getting the fuel jet sizes right ...I have built manifolds before , it does take some time to the fit right ...  I have a Carb from a Chevy S10 4 cylinder truck ...The local muffler shop will bend me short 90 degree tubes ...  Please someone tell that I am crazy and that I need to see my doctor ..

  7. @Bluesky & @ saddlebum ...This  malfunction led to me find a couple of things going on with the carbs , 2 carbs had dirty stuck slides on the  front cylinders , and  another had what may be as mentioned a stuck needle ( I did clean all the Carb Slides)... Will try the cleaner flush with a small a mount of air pressure starting with about 5 psi ...Thanks guys

  8.  I have running the bike through the winter ( about a half hour at a time with no trouble )  ...The tank ran out about about a month ago and I let sit dry till yesterday ..Most all gas stations have gone to a blended fuel version of fuel ...I filled the tank with blended gas and first I had a flooding condition  , before the vent discharge ....A lot of guys running the high compression motors are have trouble ...There have a number of vehicles getting towed with a compression of over 11 to 1 ...

  9. I was certain I had my 83 ready for the road ..I started it today move it from one side of my shop to the other and back onto the lift for a final inspection ...I noticed gas dripping from under the bike , and the fuel pump would not stop running ...I changed the pump out put supply line the feeds the carbs , with no change ...I found that there are hoses connected to the air vents on the carbs , the line from the left rear carbs was throwing out gasoline ..Well I guess I am not ready for the road , all though I am glad that it happened at home and not somewhere out on the road ...This my first Venture and these carbs are new to me  , so got out the shop manual and studied the Carb diagrams ..   My past experience tells me to pull all the carbs and do them all ....Is this a common thing these carbs do ..?

  10. I was a potato farmer for 14 years , had a couple of loaders on hand ...All our bulk potatoes had to cross a grade line before we loaded by conveyor in a 40 foot trailer ..Our indoor loader had 8 ft by 4 ft bucket and heading for the grader bin with a full bucket , one thing you learned quickly was the height of the bucket and speed you were driving the tractor from the pile required some care because not thinking was not good ..At height over 5 feet it became top heavy , and then you can guess what would happen next

So I sent my 02 to a local independent small shop to have him do my clutch.  He calls me and says the starter now runs as soon as he turns on the key.  I have never heard this before.

The only "non stock" item on my bike is the Wallo Horn install.  He said the ground wire is connected at the point where the horn is mounted. He forgot to connect it at first... went back and connected it now starter running.

Ideas?  Help please. Did he fry the starter some how?

    Check your starter relay

  12. About 3 years ago before covid hit , I would cross the USA/CANADA border and pickup my parcel at a shipping depot just about 10 minutes from the border .As I arrived back at the Canadian border crossing the customs officer came out to my car and asked what i had picked up and the dollar value ..He then noticed that the parts I had picked up for a motorcycle and him being rider himself said that just at the far side of the building there was a couple on bike that would not run after he shut it down ....He said that he would go give him a hand but he could not while he was on duty , he suggested I should take a look ..So I did the bike was only 4 years old and looked great..He already tried a bunch of things and still it would not start including a a battery boast . After some checking I decided to peel back the battery wire on the positive terminal and there was about 2 inches of green corrosion on the positive terminal ..I applied the boaster cable to the peeled back wire before the corrosion and the the bike started and ran ...I followed him for about a half hour , we stopped and talked a bit and then he headed home  ...He had just bought the bike the week before from a dealer ... He ordered a complete wiring harness because there many other connection problems

  13. I was diagnosed with a heart problem ( heart attack in 2019 ).. The  cardiac specialist had a pacemaker installed in 2021  and after all the testing time spent in hospital they found out that my heart is good ...What caused all the problem was a prescription medication prescribed by a doctor ...I have been on medication since a head injury in 1978 and the medication that were being prescribed  now were causing were causing a major interaction with the long time medication  ... It got seriously bad causing blackouts ...I stopped all medications for 4 days and my heart slowed to a safe rate and my blood pressure came down to safe rate ...I am perfectly fine now , they are may remove the pacemaker ...in May 2022 ...All Doctors should check with the pharmacist  on interactions of all medications before prescribing any more medications .. Because some medications can kill

  14. I intend to setup the rotating arm and my bike lift , so that the rotating arm can lift a bike off the deck of the lift and another bike can drive up ., just in case of a emergency repair needed of another bike  ..I do have 3 older Yamaha bikes that need to be on the road .  I plan on retiring when I hit 80 years which gives me 5 years to go....  I do get calls from other bikers in need of repair ....

  15. Thanks to both @Marcari..@Freebbird for the comment ..I spent a lot of time making the insert that holds the 2 rollers bearings that slides into the vertical pipe on top  , and the 1/4 inch steel plate that mounts on the 3/4 4 x 8 sheet of plywood that  is screwed to the ceiling and wall ..The bottom is sitting on Dodge mini van rear hub that is welded to 1/2 inch thick steel plate that is bolted to the floor with 1/2 by 5 anchor bolts ..I may make some changes along the way ...The way it set up now I lift one bike off  the lift and drive another bike one onto the lift ..My next problem is as you can see is that I need a bigger shop. I buy all my material at a jobber cost , and as of now I have about $950.00 invested .

  16. I have working on this rotating arm to help with moving motors and bikes that do not run from the floor to my lift and to my work bench ...It is not done yet , but I have done a trial test run . I can pick up a 450 lb  bike from the floor to the lift and rotate the load with one hand ..There a lot more to do to get it where I would call it ready for the job .

  17. I have been using a 1157 tail light bulb in series with my regular battery charger on a  2 amp setting on my charger ..( solder wire to the bulb terminal ) Use the positive clamp from my charger to the main terminal of the bulb and the case/ground of the bulb to the positive terminal of the battery and the ground clamp of the charger to ground terminal of the battery ...When the battery is low on power/charge the bulb goes on bright and when the battery reaches full charge the bulb goes dim or out ...The 1157 bulb acts like a regulator with maximum of a 2 amps ,  I have bought several of the battery tenders and I have have had no luck with them ...

You may get varying opinions about this but in my opinion, it has more to do with the weight that you plan to haul than the length.  What size motorcycles are you planning to haul?  The Ventures, depending on model, can weigh close to 1,000 lbs.  I certainly don't think that pulling that much weight with a motorcycle is wise.  Possibly a small dirt bike or something would be OK.

I do agree with the weight issue ..Would axle position also affect the handling or maybe a multi axle trailer . And far as what size bike I would be loading , I am not sure ....I do know that the requests I to haul are in the 600 lb class

  19. I plan to build a light trailer to load and haul / carry motorcycles ..I have a hitch for my 83 venture XVZ1200 and am planning to build a trailer I can hook to my 83  ..Mostly for work and sometimes a motorcycle .. I need input on how a trailer will affect the handling on my 83 ...I intend to build the trailer 24 inches wide and 48 inches with an extension kit that allow to carry a bike ...There has been number of guys asking to transport motorcycles here ...I know that length will affect the handling ..At $7.67 per gallon of gas , I will be parking my truck till the gas come back down ..Talked to some of the larger whole sale gas depots today ...Appears our government has added another 12% sales tax to our gasoline prices . This makes 36% of gas prices tax
