  1. When I do my new front end he lines will have to be longer to be kept neat. Which is why I was going to go for the vmax parts st this time. Dose anybody know what size he banjo bolts are. I am going to have to rebuild my front calipers so I could just fined out that way but if someone knew that would be great.

  2. I found a set of vmax front brake lines on ebay for $16 usd. So now my question is what to do about the 2nd brake line from the rear master cylinder. eventually I will swap for ss lines all around when I build my leading link front end for the sidecar.

  3. Finally rebuilding the forks. Have to wait for new parts to come in so I cleaned and sanded the fork lowers since the factory clear coat was coming off. I also had to remove glue that the previous owner had used to hold on some fork protectors. I am going black with them.14b5bd86baacefa993d8d0633dde9743.jpg

  4. The seal is a copper crush washer. The same thing used on oil drains and brake banjo bolts.

You should be using a socket head cap screw and you won't have to grind anything. BTW, earlier you said 12mm which I don't believe is correct. I think they're 8mm.

There must have been a change over because these are definitely 12-1.25 bolts (used the bolt identifier at the store) I wish they were 8mm or even 10 because they had them in Stock.

  5. Go to your local bolt and nut supply and get a match.

If my guess is right the head is probably stripped out, right? That would most likely happen by somebody using an imperfect allan wrench or using a hand tool. An impact is the way to go on those, at least I think so, and have even removed questionable bolts that way.

I tried the impact and ended up using about 6 foot of breaker bar (luckily it's a sidecar) the bolts are done for.

  6. I tried ace (only place open today) they didn't have any so I ordered one on ebay. I also have a new a seal comeing (nicked one putting it on) oe fork had a crush gasket and the other didn't have a washer at all. Will a normal crush washer used for oil dean plugs be what I am looking for? Am I going to need to grind down the head of the bolt to clear the axle?

  7. Some of the Garmin GPS units have a mic in and mic out on the back. Paired with a Buddy Rich or Edsets cable it ties your phone to the bikes audio. You can then talk on the phone through the helmet mic. I'm looking into a way to do it without the gps. I want to put it inside the fairing and do away with the GPS
So it is a cable that ties in like it is a 2nd headset? That wouldn't be too hard. My original plan was to tap into the cb so that my phone would override the music. I could make a inline splice (like how you wire trailer lights) to put it between pasanger intercom and the mixer. Then all you would need is a little box for controlls.

  8. Not trying to hijack the thread but I've been talking to an electronics guy here about making a board to replace the Garmin Bluetooth interface for the 2nd gen. I don't use the Garmin for directions, only to tie the phone into the system. With the Garmin, Buddy Rich cable, and a Bluetooth receiver installed I can stream music, use the gps on the phone, and make/take phone calls on the bikes system. I'd like to do away with the Garmin to de-clutter the bars. He says he can make them but I'll have to buy at least 5 boards to get the manufacturer to make them. It may get expensive, I may go ahead in hopes to sell some unless we can come up with a different idea.
I'm unfamiliar with the garmin interface. Is it a din plug or something like that?

  9. I was thinking a way to link a ipod or phone to the radio. I suppose if you were to tap the headset mic you could even talk on the phone as well as play music. There would be buttons to controll yout device (volume skip and play) I would wire it to draw power the same way the casette deck dose and it might even be possible to have a small storage cubby.

  10. I used a single 4' firestick on my 87. Used a screw on end and a 90 degree fitting. Tuned it with a SWR. Output range must greater than stock. Better FM reception also. Check clearance of your garage/shed door before going with the 4'. While it may look just a little tall, I am pretty this extends the range.
My bike doesn't see much time inside the garage but I do want the fold over so that I can tarp it when I need.

  11. I mounted two Firestik antennas on the back of my 89. I did convert the luggage rack to an 87 as they came with the mounts on both sides for the antenna holder. I then ran a separate wire up to the radio and then a separate wire for the CB. This allowed me to remove the spliter that is attached to the CB and run the CB line into it directly. I would recommend the 3 foot Firestik as I have 4 foot on mine and think they stick up a little too high for my taste. You will also need a 90 degree connection for under the antenna to make a neater setup.

Do a search here on the Marshall Mod here on for more information on it.

    I hope this helps

    Rick F.

I remember seeing the Marshall mod but the link is no longer functional. My 89 has a mount 9n both sides of the rack so I ordered a 2nt antenna mount off ebay for $11 and I was going to use a fire ring mount with a fold over stud.

  12. Not on 1st Gen, but have on 2nd Gen. I went with the tunable tip FireStick and it did a better job than the original. I did use SWR meter on it as well. And replaced the radio antenna with a matching non-tunable tip FireStick, and it did not do as well as the original whip antenna.

You can order them and the stud mounts online or go to most any truck stop and get them.

    Man I miss Radio Shack!!!

I have several mounts but I just want sure if I needed a no ground plain or if there was enough metal on the bike. I will be putting the whip on the left side of the bike like I do with every car I have ever installed a CB on.
