  1. I've got an Ultraguard cover right now that has just, unfortunately, ripped. This cover is thin enough that I can fold it up and put it in the saddle bag and, if scrunched down, leaves about 1/2 the saddle bag still available. This is a full cover with windshield protection and heat shield on the bottom.

I looked at covers on line but you just don't know how thick, heavy and bulky they are on line.

I was wondering it anyone uses a similar cover, for their RSV, and what kind and model it is. I like it because it doesn't take up much space and I can take it with me and cover the bike anywhere.

    Any suggestions?

I use a cover I bought from a after market vendor for about $15.00. It's made from a heavy mil thickness plastic material that looks like a big grey garbage bag. It may not have that Designer, "I paid big bucks :mo money:for this cover" looks but, it serves my purpose nicely. My main concern was to keep moisture off the bike when I have to park it outside in the rain. It works perfectly for that and when neatly folded and rolled up fits nicely in the lid of one of the saddle bags. I have compressed it enough to fit in the space behind the seat and under the passenger backrest of an 87 Venture Royale.

I've had the cover for over a year and have found it to be very durable. It did get a small rip in it once which was easily patched with a piece of plastic shipping tape.

In fact the cover actually saved my life recently when I got caught in a wind, rain and sleet storm on the top of Mt Mitchell, NC. The weather got too bad to coninue and I was forced to make an emergency stop in the middle of the night and in the middle of nowhere. I pulled up in front of a closed truck stop and threw the cover over the bike and crawled up under it with a collapsable chair and two sleeping bags. The wind blew at gale force with the rain and Ice but I stayed warm and dry under the cover. Had it not been for what sounded like Elk bugleing and Coyotes howling all around me all night I'm sure I would have gotten some sound shut eye. As it was I did manage to get a few hours sleep until the paper man woke me up the next morning because I was blocking his access to the paper boxes.

  2. Install a 2200 ohm Resistor, in series with the lead to a " switched " 12 volt point. On the fuse block. No need to have voltage, thru the resistor when Ing Switch is " OFF " The Resistor will lower the voltage to about 4 volts, going to the Display panel.

If the Instrument panel display, is still working, Your lucky !!

noted.... Master and slave cylinder rebuild kits showed up today.

  3. Nah, as Mike figured out, that's from last fall and is in the calender. Scoots almost done, putting the fairing on her right now, do the stereo and the rest of the electronics. Wifes OK with it, she knew the would be no piece(!) if I didn't have peace to work on the bike. The people getting pissed are my my side work customers!!!! Ain't touched any of it in the last couple of weeks. Kinda' enjoy it. Took the bike out Sunday morning, naked of course. Ran it a little to check the gears and get it warmed up. SYnched the carbs went out again,,,, all I can say is--they better replace some asphalt along that road cause I burnt her up real good!!! Runs like a bat-out-of-h*ll and very smooth thru the gears. Still looks the same, will do major redecorating next year. Gonna be at Dons this weekend.

    Thanks,

    Dan

Glad to hear the project is coming along ok, And you wife is still oKay. My advice on marriage safety tips must have paid off. Sorry about you not snagging the pictures. Glad your bike is running better. I got one new project in the shop and I just bought another 84 xvz1200 off ebay tonight. I'm up to my a** is Ventures. I'm picking the new one up in PA.

  4. Yes, the above Link !! Do Not , hook the Wire to the Old " Water Level Sensor " directly to 12 VOLTS !!! If you do, it will fry the Circuit board in the Instrument Panel.

Install the Resistor, this will lower the voltage to about 3 to 4 volts, that is felt on the Instrument panel computer. Be sure to Hook it to a Switched 12 volt point.

You have to pull the left side covers to make the repair, you might as well Install a

" NEW " Clutch Slave Cylinder, as long as your in the area. ( About $30.00 ) Rebuild the Master also.

Master and slave rebuild kit on order and should be here next week.
  5. I have been using Yamalube 20W40 in my 07 Venture. I know there are other options but I decided I would use it a least for the first few years in case I had any warranty issues. I went to the yamaha dealer the other day to pick up a gallon of oil for my next change. Apparently 20W40 is not available anymore. They now have 20W50 instead. I asked why they changed. Dealer was not sure. Anyways I have a few questions that I was hoping some of our members could comment on.

    1) Does anyone know why they changed?

    2) I have 2 litres of 20W40 left over. Can I mix it with the 20W50 on the next change?

    Thanks Jim

. I Don't think you will have a problem mixing them you just don't want to mix synthetic oil with non synthetic oil. But, who said 20w40 was no longer available, I just Bought 20w40 no problem.

  6. I thought the Golden Coral was like 10 bucks with a coupon... How did you score a freebie? You find a short & curly in the mashed potatoes?

FYI over 500 people have viewed the Car Tire Thread.

Yea and look how much hostility came out in that thread. I still want to know how you did the IBS thingy.:whistling:

:sign07::doh:oooops!! May be too late. I hooked up the new battery exactly how old battery was hooked up. See picks. There was no green wire with transistor and white/red wire was hooked directly to positive terminal of battery. Someone had added this in the past even though there was a port for the water level sensor that was still plugged.
  8. 1. Clean All the Electrical Plugs with CRC 2-26 ---

    ----- And the Switches ----

    2. Clean up All the Ground Connections !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    3. Clean out the Gas Tank -----

    4. You know what to do next !!!

    Good Luck

    George,

As usual YOUDAMAN. I've had a good teacher and mentor in you and I'm already right with you with this one, Gas tank has been drained, oil drained, new Odyssey battery, starting to check, clean moisture proof electrical plugs. Monitor system is showing all checks showing warning I understand gas, lights, But I did not expect kick stand (kickstand up and bike on centerstand) battery is new, brakes and water. So I'll be going through those systems as well.

Question since Odyssey battery does not have an internal probe, how does the battery monitor system work and why am I showing check battery indicator with fresh battery. Could that be related to cleaning up ground points?

Shifter was useless because earlier mechanic said bike fell over in his shop and broke corner of stator cover where shift shaft goes through cover. Sounds weird to me because this bike has driver footboard and heal/toe shifter which completely protects shift shaft and I do not see how a fall over could have damaged the shifter and cover the way it did. I have another cover so this won't be a big deal to fix. But, The clutch fluid system was completely dry and I'm not sure why.

    Any thoughts?

  9. I had something happen to me today that got me a little aggrivated. Not wishing to say the wrong thing I started thinking of more politically correct ways to describe the circumstances. But, then I got confused with my terminology and could use some help here. What would be the more politically correct phrase to be used by a caucasion minority.

Reverse Descrimatory Customer No Service Policy

Reverse Descrimatory passive aggressive hostilility by impeding with slow motion action

Reverse Descrimatory aggressive passive hostility by impeding with acclerated motion to interfer with ones progress

Maybe I'll just sleep on it.:confused24:

  10. Mine was a project, that one needs a carwash!!!! Let us know if you need some help, has it been turned over recently or in the past couple years? If not, I'd be carefull of just stickin a battery in there and cranking it over without an oil change, pulling the plugs and putting a couple squirts of oil in there and then cranking it over by hand a couple of times to get things moving.

    Good luck!!!

    Dan

Good advice, thanks for reminding me or I might have done just that. Hasn't been turned over for three years but was running when parked with shifter linkage problem and fork tube compression problem due to blown out anti-dive solenoid. Then there is the cobwebs, pine straw and oxidation.
  11. Nice Bike, but why do you call it "Project" ??

It seems there's some Work to do, but i wouldn't consider this a Project. It'll take some Time, yes, but we're not talking Months to get it back on the Road.

I know but at this stage of life every new task seems like a project. Even getting off the sofa to go to the bathroom sometimes seems like a project.:backinmyday:

  12. I got a new project bike in my driveway to start on.

It really isn't mine It belongs to some old friends that I haven't seen in years. These are great people, Matt and Charlotte Flory, of Lilburn, Georgia. Please welcome them and look forward to meeting them soon as new members.

We had lost touch several years ago due to moving, changing watering holes, and busy lives, ect..... A mutual friend mentioned to me that they had a Venture that they might consider selling, so I got in touch with them. They told me that they really didn't want to part with the bike because they loved it so much, but wanted to get it back on the road. It had been sitting under cover for several years with a few problems and they didn't know how to go about getting started with repairing it considering it's age and not knowing anyone who could or wanted to work on it for them. As we were talking I told them about my experience with my 87 XVZ1300 and how finding this site and all of you that have helped me have made it possible for me to be able to keep my bike alive in my heart, mind, soul and under my butt as a daily driver.

One thing led to another so we came to an agreement that helps both of us out, me helping him get his bike on the road and him helping me get some punch items repaired for a upcoming House closing this month.

I can't wait to get started on it and am trying to shoot for the July Georgia M & E for a target date of having him with me at that event riding his rejuvenated VR and meeting some of you. I've told him how great ya'll have been to me and I think he's really looking forward to getting involved with Ventureriders.org.

  13. I was wondering if anyone has clicked on the e-bay link on the bottom of the page. When I click on it it does take me to ebay but there is 45 pages to the link and it is not all about bikes or bike parts. ??????????????????????????
I use Yamaha Venture Royale as an advanced search in e-bay and get only parts for parts for that bike.
  14. Tuesday at 4:16 pm our new venture came to be, with just 4 quick pushes. I would like to introduce Chelby Leanne Gambrel 6 LBS 12 OZ 19.5 inches

  15. I have XM Radio in my car, and love it. But I don't think I'll put it on my bike for one reason: reception in the mountains. I do most of my riding in the Blue Ridge, and believe it or not, you lose reception depending on what side of a mountain you're one and where the satellite is.

    Wonderful everywhere else, though.

    My experience Too!!!
