cruise control quit working suddenly

Cruise control quit working last week. 2007 RSV I have owned since new and am very familiar with how everything operates. It passes all self diagnostic tests listed in the service manual section 8 pages 73-75 in rest 3 it is testing the actuator, vacuum, and throttle cable.

so the only thing I can think of is the gear position switch. the cruise will only operate between 50 MPH and 80 MPH in 4th or 5th gear. I can not find where the the cruise control module gets a signal to know if it is in 4th or 5th gear. i have been all over the wiring diagrams and just don't see it.

Have any of you ran in to this?

Could be your clutch handle being loose and vibrating.
