Sena SMH10 intercom between car & bike

Feeling cleaver with myself today :-) My wife doesn't ride on the back anymore for long trips. She'll ride on the back once we get there but prefers following me in the car. It is what it is. Has it's advantages - I can carry all the gear I want, always have a nice cold drink waiting for me at rest stops.

I have an emergency vehicle available if needed. I still get to ride and have her around to have fun with at the destination. But use twice the gas :-(

Problem is (or was) how do we communicate for the sometimes 3 days on the road. Cell phone is spotty at best. So... I was thinkin... we both have Sena SMH10 bluetooth headsets. They are good for 1/2 mile bike to bike communications and last about 10hrs. I wonder if they would work in the car? I mean she's not using hers right. So I order a new helmet clamp kit (SMH-A0306) which can be used with helmet speakers or earphones, comes with both the "button" mic and the boom mic. Versatile enough, I should be able to work something out. So I take off the metal clamp, put on the plastic "3M stick on" clamp backwards. LEAVE the backing ON the adheasive. This makes the "clamp" part wide enough to slip over the sunvisor.

I stick the button mic on the front of the helmet clamp.

Plug a double male stereo patch cable into the earphone jack then into the AUX in the car audio system. Folks I gota tell ya it works great! Hands free for both of us. Just like she was on the back using the intercom :-)

Good idea and thanks for the post. Fellow at work does about the same with his pregnant wife whom cannot, (or won't) mount up on his Victory motorcycle any longer. They have the same intercom as you. He's one of those tech "geeks" and is all over that kind of stuff.

How do you like your Sena set? I'm thinking along the lines myself.

Love the Sena SMH-10. One of the best buys I've made for the bike, any bike as I ride several and it goes with the helmet. They have a newer one out but this one works great, I have no plans to change it, this one does it all for me.
