Bert2006 Posted July 10, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 10, 2015 I will be replacing the points on my old fuel pump tonight so that I could keep it as a spare. To test if it is working after I do the job, can I simply connect the electrical wire from the bike without connecting the fuel lines? (pumping air) Or is there another way to do it. I just do not want to have to switch the whole thing in order to test. Thanks

MikeWa Posted July 10, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 10, 2015 Yes you can do that. I usually use a spare battery, a piece of hose and some jumper wires to see if it will pump water from a pot. Or paint thinner or kerosene from a can. I don't like to use gasoline because of the chance for sparks. But yes just connect the wire harness to just see if it turns on.
