Using an Iphone through the intercom system

Ok, I consider myself somewhat intelligent, but, can not seem to figure this out. When I try to talk on the Iphone (while parked) I can hear the other party just fine, but they can not hear me. Is there something I am missing? Shouldn't the mic work so I can talk? I have it connected via the AUX port and can play and music fine.

Yup takes a special cable to talk also.
