Big Auggie Posted March 12, 2015 #1 Posted March 12, 2015 I recently took my CLASS system off line, stuck a tank valve on the rear shock line and discovered it still wouldn't hold air. So, is the rear shock rebuildable or should I order a new Progressive shock and be done with it? I put Progressive springs in the front forks last year and have never regretted it!

The stock rear shock is not rebuildable. If you are certain that the shock has an internal air leak (not a fitting or hose leaking) then replacement is your only recourse. Personally, I would replace the faulty stock shock with a low mileage stock shock from a Standard Venture. Leaking First Gen shocks are uncommon and used stock shocks are cheap, unlike the Progressive®. Here is a very clean shock from a 1983 Standard with 43K miles:83 Yamaha XVZ1200 XVZ12 Venture Y396' Rear Mono Shock Air Damper w Pivot Mounts | eBay Here is a real cheap one: 83 Yamaha XVZ1200 XVZ 1200 Venture Rear Mono Suspension Shock Wire Mount | eBay Edited March 12, 2015 by Prairiehammer
KISA Posted March 13, 2015 #3 Posted March 13, 2015 If the shock-absorber pure, it doesn't mean yet that it well works. At all old shock-absorbers the spring is weakened. It is necessary to increase air pressure. I last year put new Progressive suspention and is very happy.
