BigLenny Posted August 11, 2014 #1 Posted August 11, 2014 Hey Folks, I finally for the first time myself took my rear wheel off. I usually have the shop change my rear tires. I took it off to perform the greasing of the drive pins and gears job that I've been needing to do for some time now because I have the creaking rear syndrome. The question I have is; I was kind of shocked that the rear axle nut doesn't have some kind of keeper on it besides it being a locking type nut. Is it common practice to put some kind of mild thread locker on it? Just wondering.
Freebird Posted August 11, 2014 #2 Posted August 11, 2014 I never have and have never had a problem with it coming lose. Torque on that nut is 110 ft. lbs. if I remember correctly.
BigLenny Posted August 11, 2014 Author #3 Posted August 11, 2014 Thanks Don, I knew the torque was 110, but I was just wondering. I guess if the nut and the pinch bolt are torqued right, I should forget about it and ride the hair off of it. LOL. BL
MikeWa Posted August 11, 2014 #4 Posted August 11, 2014 Torque it. it won't come loose. Also the application of any liquid including loc-tight will distort the torque readings. Mike
