920shrek1 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Here is update on my fuel pump issue. I installed new points. Seems to be working. My question is I have the inlet line hooked up the outlet is running to a gas can. Turn the key on it runs for about 5 Seconds and stops turn the key off and back on it will run for 5 Seconds and stop is this normal? I would think the pump should keep running until it builds up pressure.
Neil86 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Its a safety feature.....if no crank rotation is sensed, it stops the pump after a few seconds, to prevent a fuel leak from continuing. The logic being if the engine isn't running its not using fuel.
920shrek1 Posted August 1, 2014 Author Posted August 1, 2014 Thanks for the info. Guess I will hook up to the carbs and see how it works:thumbsup2:
djh3 Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Usually they have like a timer relay I think. They run 5 seconds or so then off. What you can do is put your thumb over the end to create some pressure. Then release the pressure and try that a couple of times.
