hipshot Posted December 17, 2007 Share #1 Posted December 17, 2007 is the exhaust collector box absolutely necessary, for a specific reason? can i run dual 2 into 1 exhausts, and still be safe , as far as back drafts, burnt valves, are concerned? i really want to do away with that blasted , rattling box! just jt
PA RIDER Posted December 17, 2007 Share #2 Posted December 17, 2007 hipshot. Just take a cut off wheel, cut a U shape in the bottom of collector. rip that baffel out, weld back up . no more rattle.! that is what we did to my first 83 vr. PA RIDER. buddy Posted December 17, 2007 Share #3 Posted December 17, 2007 Same here, I cut it open and cut everything inside removed everything including the fiberglass fiber and welded back up no back flow restriction plus gives the exhaust a deeper tone as well very pleased Thats been over a year plus 2,000+ miles too. buddy
Paul Posted December 18, 2007 Share #4 Posted December 18, 2007 Did my 87 last year and 8000 miles ago and it worked out fine. You will see a couple little spot welds on the top and bottom of the collector holding the baffel in place. Mine had broke loose on the spot welds on a couple and sounded like the tranny was ratteling apart. Cut the rest loose and gutted the thing entirely then folded the flap I had made back in place and welded it shut. Put it back on and havent had a problem since. It is a little deeper in tone but not that noticable. I think there are pictures here somewhere showing the whole process. Paul
