alvald83 Posted August 6, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 6, 2011 I am having my rear tire replaced this weekend. What final drive work should i have done while the wheel is off? I have heard that the rear splines need to be serviced. Is this a good time for that? Thanks Al
skydoc_17 Posted August 6, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 6, 2011 The male and female splines that connect the rear wheel hub to the final drive should be greased. The drive shaft should be removed from the drive shaft tube and the splines that connect the drive shaft to the U-Joint yoke should be greased as well. Honda makes a lube called Moly60 that is an excellent product. Any wheel bearing grease would be better than nothing. Earl
Venturous Randy Posted August 7, 2011 Share #3 Posted August 7, 2011 Yep, with you having an 83, about everything needs greased and Skydoc covered it. One suggestion, in your information it really does help if your bike year is noted. As in the drive shaft requirements, there is a difference in an 83 and an 86-up.
