Question for the Spanner Spinners out there

I know that new bearings on big machinery can get a bit hot, sometimes to the point of boiling the grease, until they wear in. Just wondered about smaller ones, like say car or m/c wheel bearings?

My guess is they do to some extent & I bet some of you guys will know

for sure.

Tony.

yes, wheel bearings get hot enough to melt the heavy duty grease in them, thats part of the reason that most wheel bearings are sealed, to keep that hot, liquid grease inside. if you had a bearing in your wheel that was not sealed i would highly recommend greasing it on a regular basis. you'll know if it starts to cook out the grease, as you will hear a high pitched squeek that is speed dependant.
