just an update

1. housebreaking is a real adventure

2. so far One bath robe one pair of slippers and two throw rugs have fallen victim

3. crate training has gone no where

4. but all in all he's a keeper

Took him to the vet Tuesday 9 wks. and 12 lbs -- we'll be looking for a saddle in about a year

Oh how cute. I only ever attempted crate training once and it worked. Not sure it would have with any of my other dogs though. Good luck with housebreaking. I use to give treats outside every time the dog did it's business outside. Unfortunately you pretty much have to go out every hour or so. Chewing well maybe some bones or the kong toys. Though the dog I have now actually has torn them up.

I agree a definite keeper.

We crate trained both of ours when they were puppies. They spent the first 8 months in the crate when we were not at home and asleep. After that, we would let them stay out for short trips to the store and such. Now, they never go in the crate, but could if they had to. They don't like their freedom being taken away, but they don't flip out either.

 

My sister has a 9 month old yellow lab, 87 lbs on Monday at the vet. He's a BIG BOY!

We're on our 2nd yorkie, got her in oct., had brittany spaniels before them used crate training with success, minute they woke out they went. We used a childs playpen with this one, food, bed, and a doggie pad [2x2 paper diaper] in it when we can't watch her. After her naps, we watch her for the first 15 mins. out of pen till she goes on the pad, was a pain but it did worked great in 2 weeks or so. Don't need the pad in the pen any more, can't remember last time she went off the pad in the corner. Being just retired helped greatly, was able to devote the 2 weeks or so I needed to house break her. With a smaller breed I say go with the pad and pen or crate way for sure, does work but you can't let up if the first couple of weeks you'll be back tgo square one. later, I know the rules, pics are needed with most posts when you got them.
