  1. thanks for making me feel like one of the family. even my blood takes there shots at my HD. thats ok i think i can take it if not my problem. i have a question. i want to put a picture on my profile and i cant seem to figure out how to make it small enough to fit. 64KB ? any sugjestions?
  2. well i spent my money to be a member. looking forward to all the fun and pokes you will probably take at me for owning a harley.
  3. while you are in this area, another nice ride when mountain laural is in blossum is the road from ridgeway to sigel. you can stop at farmers inn for ice cream. nice ride. let me know when i will try to make the ride also.
  4. i have the star bags that are in good shape if interested.
  5. daitan, google maps says 210 miles about 3 1/2 hrs away. rte 666 is just a short ride compared to coming from elmira. we do it in an afternoon. never checked the milage. nice back country road thru the forest. would be more then glad to show you around if you end up in my area. i am not a member yet. i know what are you waiting for:confused07: so dont know if you reach me thru my profile or not. take a look see and let me know on this thread.
  6. i am from the tionesta area and a nice ride we do here is rt 666 i know it is the road to hell but we still ride it at least once a yr. there is a biker blessing the first sunday in may on german hill just out of tionesta and there is usually a good turn out. we wleave from there and take rt 666 up through the national forest. nice country. also been to watkins glenn several times nice area. let me know if you want to try rt 666 and i would be gald to hook up for the ride.
  7. i had an 06' and i loved the touring style but because i am short on the inseam it was to bulky for me. i test rode a HD ultra classic which in my book is equielant to the RSV. and when i looked at the price new for new it was only about $1000 more so i liked the bike andvery nice ride i will stay with my ultra.
  8. thanks for the pictures that helps me understand more of what to expect when i take my trip. $40.00 for sandwiches and a pop, 250-500 for hotel rooms. sounds like i better be ready to re-morgage the house for this trip. still sounds like something i want to try in the future. maybe after i am retired and have time. thanks every one for all the helpful advise.
  9. miles, that is correct, we will not be going this year. my wife and i would not have any trouble doing 500 + miles a day. right now i can get over 200 miles per tank of fuel and when we do even a day ride we will go through a tank of fuel and onto a second, unless we are riding with friends that don't or can't do that type of ride. all rides are still lots of fun. not sure which island he is on but i know it is one of the lower islands. i havent really done alot of riding my HD on gravel roads but i have rode on gravel roads before in PEI. i have a brother that lives in colorado and he is on a gravel road. we were there this last fall in a car but the roads were better then the roads in Pa. lots of time to plan. i am sure as the time gets closer i will have plenty of questions. thanks for the info about protecting my drive belt. good info. thanks miles.
  10. thanks miles, i am 54 yrs old and in good health. i am a diabetic but under control. my wife and i did a ten day ride from pa up to PEI and rode around the island. total trip was just under 4000 miles. longest strech of the trip was coming home we did over 700 miles in 12hrs. chances are we will not be on my present bike an 09 HD ultra classic has 33000 miles on it right now. i expect this trip if i can find the time from work to do this will be later in life and i will most likely have a new HD but i am sure it will still be an ultra classic. love to ride and just thought this would be a chalenge. i have a cousin that lives in alaska, but not on the main land. he is on one of the islands and he had rode down to pa a few years ago and this is what got me interested. always interested in advise on riding trips and or just bikes.
  11. thanks isutley, i know where guys mills is at. sounds like a plan. maybe we can do a ride together this summer. have you ever been to tionesta's blessing of the bikes on german hill. first sunday in may. small country church but they usually bring in about 1200 bikes.
  12. sorry miles, my wife said it was time for supper, cant miss that. ok, google maps had me going into canada in north dakota and once it got me to the yukon it looked like there were no towns for hotels or gas and maybe even no paved roads. what can you tell me about available hotels in that area and are the roads paved or dirt?
  13. first of all to mikewa, you will like this. i had an 06' rsv and loved it but i did not feel comfortable on it. it seamed top heavy, then i sat on a harley and it seamed to be lower to the ground and i tried it and so i bought an 09' last august. here is the good part, i met with my investment advisor the other day and he rides a rstd. he told me that the statistics show that 98% of all harleys sold since 2000 are still on the road today. the other 2% had made it back to the garage. haha:rotf:
  14. back in the early 80's my wife and i bought an alaskan husky, just a puppy but i new he would grow to be a fairly big dog. he was half husky and half wolf, so i built a large dog house for him and when the UPS driver would stop he would blow his horn for us to come out to get our delivery. once he saw the dog was just a puppy he thought that was the funniest thing he ever saw, until he grew up. hehe:rotf:
  15. thanks for the reply. i am still just a trial member and don't have anyway of getting to there profile page to ask them direct. like you said maybe they will see this thread and be able to give me some advice. i have a cousin that lives on one of the lower islands and he has made the trip to PA but that has been a while ago and i really wanted to go to the main land.
  16. i have a question concerning a bike trip to Alaska. first i was wondering if anyone has ever made this trip? i am from PA and my wife and i would like to do this trip sometime. the google maps says it is around 4000 miles, so i figured it would take about a week to get there. then i noticed that it looks like around 1500 miles through the Yukon with any towns, gas stations and maybe even unpaved roads with little or no maintence. what can you guys tell me?
  17. the leg method works. my first big bike was a 06 rsv. i dropped it several times, once right in town pulling out from a resteraunt, nothing hurt but the pride. turn the handle bars into the tank, squat down and put your lower back against the seat, grab the handle bar and the grab rail for the passanger and lift wwith your legs. it is still very heavy but it can be done. one thing i did to my rsv to make it handle better was i added leveling links from diamond R accessories. they really work. now i have a 09 HD ultra classic. sits a little lower to the ground then the rsv so it fits me better. never dropped it yet. knock on wood.
  18. well i broke down and bought my new mounting bracket for my HD. i had called the company, they had an 800 number and the lady there said that sometimes there can be a glare looking through the clear cover in sun light. since i use this gps unit in my car and on my bike adn having to run power into the box everytime i want to use it, i decided not to get the aqua box. going to keep using the trusty sandwich bag. cheaper to. thanks for your suggestions.
  19. thanks. i was wondering if you can see through the plastic ok or is there a glare from the sun? this is not something you would be taking on and off pending on the weather. i thought also that the touch screen may not work as well going though the clear plastic cover.
  20. me too i used the sandwich bag then i sold my bike and need to get a different bracket to hold my gps and found this on this web site. i think i am going to get it but not sure. was hoping to find someone that says they are great or don't waste your money. http://www.leadermotorcycle.com/
  21. just wanted to know if anyone has ever used the aqua box for a garmin GPS? i have alwaysed used my gps on trips but have had to use a plastic bag to cover it if it should rain, to cheap to buy one that is water proof. i saw this aqua box on the internet and wondered if you can see through the cover that goes over the unit?
  22. my HD is the black pearl ( as in the ship ) and it just happens to be that color. my wife and i came up with the name together.
  23. i used to have a 06' model. very nice bike. my wife and i done a lot of traveling on it. you won't be disappointed with the venture. i although had an inseam issue, a little short legged and it was a strech to reach the ground at times. but still a very nice ride.
  24. i am a new trial member. just joined yesterday. i love riding more then anything. have been several places and my goal is to ride in all of the states. i see there is a classified page to buy and sell things. do you have to be a paid member to post on there or can i post on there while i am on my trial?
