  1. :snow2:

Careful...you might be snowed in ....:snow2::snow2:

Hey Ruff that didn't stop me in March going to Bike Week... I ran in 3-4" of snow and slush for the 45 miles between Belfast & Augusta and then again in DC but it was just wet roads down there and wasn't sticking... I think the only thing that saved me was my All-Season car tire on the back and the trailer... I did do some fishtailing on the hills on Rte 3... That will make certain things pucker... But I lived to tell about it so it was all good

  2. Well my odometer just passed the 100K mark last night... I bought my 03 in June 05 with 10K on it on ebay for $8500... It had been dropped and I had to do some work to it but was very rideable and only cosmetic damage..

The only out of pocket repairs were a Stator which I replaced with the Buckeye Performance Higher output stator which works fine powering my 55W Passing Lamps... A Clutch which I replaced with a Barnett Pressure Plate and new factory discs.. The Barnet has a little stiffer pull which you really don't notice after a while until you ride your Buddy's stock RSV and sometimes it can take some doing to find neutral but I would buy another Barnett in a heartbeat.. I also had to replace a coil in TX which would have been a warranty item had I known going in that it was the coil but Yamaha had the coil backordered at the time and I was down there working... The Independent shop hooked me up with a used V-Star coil and it's been in there since... I had the valves adjusted at 60K and the mechanic (Yamaha Dealer) was kinda sketchy on how they were. I replaced the original still working battery in 07 cuz I was doing a long trip and I never had a battery last 4 years before so I didn't take any chances..

Warranty repairs: Rear Shock, Ignition Switch, and CB Antennae which the dealer ordered the FM Antennae so I have to radio Antennaes which don't bother me cuz I only listen to the CB occasionally.. Usually to find out why traffics backed up.. I don't own a headset so my Ratchetjawing days are over...

That's about it except 3 sets of brakes and a whole bunch of synthetic oil and tires... All in all this has been the best bike I have ever owned and I've got the most bang for my buck... I hope it goes another 100K..

  3. And that is exactly what I trying to say and didn't do it too well. I was so unclear that tx2sturgis thought I meant that Yamaha was trying to woo Harley Riders. NOPE, that's not what I meant. I still think that Y knows they can't compete with the GW's headstart in the market unless they come in WAAAAAAY under Honda' price. And that is going to be hard to do with a bike that has the V-max engine in it plus a bunch of other upgraded technology.

I think they've found a niche right between HD & GW riders... I don't know how many older guys I've talked to that are looking to move up to a touring bike and can't decide between a Harley and a Wing... To me it's a No-Brainer get a RSV it's right between those... I think I read here somewhere "Looks like a Harley... Rides like a wing"

    .

I don't expect that any (or many) HD riders would buy a Yamaha no matter what the price. People who tattoo a brand of bike on themselves.....well I better not go down that alley.

I agree Harley snobs are comical... I've seen them walk over to check out my bike from a distance and as soon as they realize it's not a Harley they turn their head like they're thinking 'Wow that was close I hope nobody saw me looking at that riceburner"

BTW I've had a Harley tatoo since I was 19 when I bought a brand new 1977 XLCH Sportster... But after getting screwed on obvious warranty issues they wouldn't stand behind and buying a couple of lemons that had more shoptime than road time I stopped drinking the Kool-Aid and tried some Jap bikes and never looked back..

I bought my 03 RSV in June 05 w/ 10K on it and it's gonna turn 100K this week and if there's a better bike out there for cross country touring with a big fat guy (Not as fat as I used to be 333.. down to 265 and dropping) on it I haven't seen or ridden it yet... Only repairs have been a stator, clutch and 1 coil

  4. I really am cynical of Yamaha's wanting to compete with Honda and BMW for the touring market. I think they are wanting to compete with Harley Davidson. That is why they made the 2nd gen a cruiser style bike. Just look at what Honda and BMW were producing in 1999 when the 2nd gen was introduced......not really even in the same market segment. Yes, they all are touring bikes. The Honda and Beemer are more futuristic in styling than the RSV. It is evident who Yamaha had their sights set on when they released the RSV, and I think that they will continue to try to get some of the HD market instead of trying to compete with the two companies who pretty much have the "modern styled" touring market all sewn up.

You're right... GWs, BMWs, and 1st Gen Ventures are "Standard" Touring bikes due to the rider position... HDs, RSVs, Victory Visions, and now the Voyager are Touring "Cruisers"... It's apples and oranges as far as I'm concerned... I'm amazed at how many people don't see that.. While the GWs are fine bikes with my knees I don't think I could do 1500 mile days on it like I have several times on my RSV..

  5. Ouch! I have to wonder if this guy is diabetic, and has no feeling in his legs. It would be very difficult for me to hold my leg next to a heat source long enough to get a 2nd degree burn.

Good point Wiz... I rented an Ultra a few years ago and got stuck in Ft. Lauderdale traffic and was standing up at red lights cuz the crossover pipe was burning my inner thigh... Finally I had to jump off the thing at a gas station and thought I must of had a burn of some kind but when I dropped my drawers I had nothing... And that pain was pretty intense..

  6. Carl and Annie you're plates are mailed... Carl yours is coming UPS and Annie yours will be coming USPS in an envelope... Seems the USPS website and the Post Office here in BumBlast Maine aren't on the same page and it ended up costing a little over $20 to ship.. Don't worry about the difference Annie you've been more than patient with me... Thanks for you're business and patience people...

Extra Stuff... I think all I have left is some rear crash bars for the original style RS... I've been told these fit V-Stars with an extra hole drilled and possibly Road Stars... I also have the left side headlight switch assembly for RS... No push to talk button so it won't work on a RSV unless you don't use the CB..

  7. OK Guys I got your plates all packed up and labeled and will drop them off at UPS today... Thanks again for your business and patience... My whole world has been turned upside down recently and I'm still trying to get a handle on things.. I'll post something about that another time..

Annie your shipping is going to be $12.95 ($67.95 US total) IF I can fit it in a Priority Mail® International

Small Flat Rate Box... I may have to cut the original packaging to fit it in this box.. I usually keep the original packaging intact as these are New Old Stock that is unopened... The packaging is a little frayed and that's how I got the good deal on them..

Also what looked like 3 sets out in the shed turned out to be 4 sets when I picked them up... So the next person to post to this thread wanting my last set for $65 shipped to 48 States gets them... I think that's the fairest way.

  8. I've got about 50K on my Barnett now and it still works fine and have had no issues with it... I've been using Barnetts since the 70s in Harleys and have never had a failure so I spent the extra bucks for a name I trust... My buddy says my clutch pull is harder but I don't even notice it... My stock clutch was slipping at 10K when I bought it in 05 and I finally replaced it at 42K... I now have 95K

  9. 04 You should pretty comfortable at OOB cuz half of Quebec will be there... If you're starting in Portsmouth and your only going as far as OOB (about 40 miles) the first night you got time to drop down into Hampton Beach, NH and ride up 1A to 1B through N. Hampton and Rye back up following the coastline to Portsmouth and into Kittery and Rte 103... Just hug the coast and you'll see plenty of nice scenery all the way up... York Beach is pretty nice...

Not knowing your timeframe it's kinda hard to suggest side rides cuz you could spend a month roaming around here with all kinds of good riding...
