  1. I have a 08 and I hear very little whine on it, If it bothers you turn up the radio or get some louder pipes. I will say that first think you will have to get used to is she is top heavy and you will notice it more ridding two up but you get used to it and dont even notice it after a while. Dont let that scare you just wanted to let you know they are very comfertable rides!! and as my girlfriend calls the back seat a couch you cant beat it. Good luck and for the money i dont think you will find a better deal I looked.

My girlfriend actually fell asleep on the rear seat as I heading down the road about 55mph. ha ha No complaints from her about the ride on a venture. She loves the rear back support on the rear seat and the overall sound system. DanC:cool10:

  2. I am trying to figure out if this is fairly normal or if there might be a problem. The bike runs fine, but I noticed a small oil drip under the motor (towards the back).

There are a series of rubber tubes coming down (I assume they are vent tubes), some of them are smaller and cut straight across, but the 2 of them are larger and diagonal cut (if that matters). Here are the pics from under the bike.

Thanks for any help or comments.

    Wally

Wally, I have a 2008 Royal star Venture and I also had the same problem with the same tube as you were noting. In tracking out the tube it went to the Carbs area and Goose'e explaination tells it all very correctly. Check your oil and if you have to remove some, they do make a small DC motor for removing oil in the pan on Cars, boats and etc if you want to keep it from being toooooo messy. No more than 3.5 Qts with a oil change and filter. That should put the oil in the sight glass at the proper level. About 1/2 way up on the sight glass when the bike is setting up right/straight. Good Question from you concerning this problem and we can all see that its a common problem with the Venture Engine Design. Nothing to worry about. Think about it, HARLEY's have been leaking for years and years and look where they have come!! ha ha I am only kidding all you Harley people!! ha ha Go easy on me!!! GULP!!!!! DanC :rotf:
  3. It looks like this now

Tank shot (want to add bib with pockets & chrome cover) ?? NOTE aftermarket tach. **ALSO** Has anyone attempted to change the colors of the backlight on the dash (speedo area). I though if it was blue it would be really nice.

Front end light bar. Can lights be added to this? Does entire bar need replaced to add driving lights??? I do not find adapters of any kind listed anywhere.

I am not digging the rear lights. Will probably get rid of the clears front and rear and go with something different. I like to be seen and these lights hide in daylight.

Looking for thoughts and ideas. This bike has 3100 miles on it so my money can be spent on goodies right now. It is in "need" of nothing. Dealer went ahead and brought it up to 4,000 mile service requirements so I am good for a while.

Take a look at my post, Title: "Inexpensive Rear Lighting" as you may like the way it looks in the rear, "See attached photo". Very inexpensive to get it that way and you WILL be seen from the rear. I, like you, was not happy with just the single rear light and reflectors. Nice bike you have there and you want to keep it nice. I fully understand the need for more lighting in the rear. :cool10: DanC

  4. Disclaimer: This is MY method and so far it has worked for me. Unless you have a very light touch I wouldnt recommend trying it. I may be a bull in a cheap dish store but I do have a delicate touch. (and there will be no further explanations either)

I know im gonna get yelled at but here goes. I always used my air compressor to add air to the front forks. I dial down the pressure knob and using a long handled air chuck I just slipped it over the valve and gave it a split second burst of air. Thats all it takes. Never hold it down on the valve for any length of time as the bladder will pop. I check the pressure with an old low pressure gauge I have. I keep it at 5 lbs and it almost never needs adjusting. :smile5:

You can blow out your seals in a heart beat if you are not extremely careful. DanC:whistling:
  5. :cool10:
Check the battery cables at the battery, especially the negative one. A certain someone called me yesterday, same issue. They thought the cables were tight, but the negative one was a little loose. So while you are doing this, might as well brush the terminals and cables.
that is clearly a "Battery Problem" I am almost certain. Start with the battery and have it tested. Then check all connections for good contact. I really feel that its the battery. Charge it and try again. I would have it tested for load just to be sure that the battery will not let you down in the near future. Load test it. DanC
  6. Just wanted to let everyone know that Harley Davidson makes a hand pump for airing up the suspension system on the Venture. It allows removal of the air fitting without loosing the selected air pressure within:cool10: the shock. It also has a flexible hose which helps in connecting the pump to the air valve on the shock.

    Item: Touring Suspension Air pump

    Part#: 54630-03A

    Cost: 49.95

    air adjust: 0 through 60lbs.

  7. Well, we don't all agree on the looks of the spacer bracket - I know that some say they like it, but personally, I think it looks all wrong and terrible with the passing lights further forward than the stock headlight. Oh well, to each his or her own! My choice was to simply make the existing spacers a bit longer to get the lights to clear the fairing but not look like they are in a different position. Yes, I still have to remove the bolts to split the fairing, but that doesn't bother me at all.

    Goose

I agree with you totally. I like the lights to set back on the bike just as they were designed to do on the venture. Its really not hard to loosen and/or remove the passing lights to split the fairing. I always put a sheet on my front fender and lay the lights on it to protect the bike. Not hard to do. DanC:confused24:
  8. It seems to me most switch failures have occurred when passing lights (or other lights) are tapped in within being feed through a relay or direct circuit to battery.

Has anybody had a switch failure on a totally stock bike? (stock passing lights installed by a dealer does not count as stock. It is rare for a dealer installation to include relay)

You are right about the dealer NOT installing the relay when THEY install the passing lights on the bike. Good Point!!! :225: They go to the nearest power source and splice in. I can only state that for the dealership that sold me my Yamaha however I feel that most WILL NOT spend the time and expense of a relay being installed. So if you are having any system added ensure that a relay or seperate fused system is used to power it with controling switches. Above all make sure that NO addition power/amps is running through the ignition switch. See my article below for additional information on amps being drawned through the ignition switch. DanC

  9. Tired of waiting...Informed carbtune that they can refund my credit card and if and when my carbtune ever arrives , I'll send it back to them. (in a few months of course). I know its not their fault, but they should provide some type of tracking no. so I could have at least followed its progress during shipping....I will not ever be dealing with carbtune again.......sorry for the rant but, enough is enough.....

Don't give up. It took mine 59 days to get here but it did finally arrive. Ordered Dec 13th and arrived Feb 11, 2011. You will get it. DanC

  10. Has anyone ordered from carbtune lately. (since the cartridge bomb issue in the fall) My order was shipped out Dec. 17th. I still have not received it yet. Carbtune replies to my e-mails and just says SORRY this is a 'Homeland Security' issue and they cannot say how long it will take for me to receive it.........they state it will arrive by ground mail and tell me there is no tracking no.......(huh?)I know that they are a stand up company but, this is getting annoying. Any one else waiting on a carbtune?
Well, I was having the same problem. It took 59 days for mine to arrive. It was ordered and shipped on Dec 13.2010. It just arrived yesterday Feb 11,2011. Its not the company's fault but home land security is just not letting the boxes on aircraft with people aboard. Every box is being scanned and etc. According to Sean Morgan the shipping company is getting more cargo type aircraft to deliver the mail being shipped. you should be receiving yours very shortly. 11. I am looking to add some light to the back end of my bike as it is not very bright at night with stock lighting. I am wanting to change the signal lights to L.E.D. running lights with the signal being priority when needed and possibly the tail light itself. I already have a L.E.D brake/running light bar to add just under the trunk but want more and wondering where I can find these in a simple aftermarket application or if there isn't one then how. I have some time as it will be a couple of months before our winter is done.

  12. error:no-no-no:The "best solution" to the ignition switch problem in my opinion is a simple ONE rule to follow. The Bike's ignition switch/circuit was "designed" to carry a certain amount of current through the ignition Switch. When you add accessories: ie, extra lights, radios, running light, side lights, trailer lights and etc they should all be run on a "seperate independent electrical systems". Think about this people, if you put to many circuits on a circuit breaker in your home it pops to both save the items being powered ,the circuit breaker, because of "HEAT" being generated by overloading the circuit or worse yet a fire. Do not run additional operational add ons to the ignition switch circuit. Suggestion: Go to any boat supply parts, like WEST MARINE and get a small circuit panel/strip used on boats. Run the new items installed on your bike directly from the small circuit panel/strip with each individually fused and with its own switch to control the circuit operation. This will prevent the HEAT being generated in the Key switch/circuit and thus prevents damage to the switch itself. In simple terms DO NOT add any additional items on the Key circuit switch. Treat this power going through the ignition switch just like you would any circuit breaker in your house. They are rated for a certain amount of AMPS/HEAT so you do not overload the individual circuit and cause a fire or damage the circuit breaker or to the ignition switch itself. HEAT generated by AMPS drawned by any circuit is the cause of most electrical problems in any electrical system. Computers, household items and etc. "HEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Every system added on to your bike should be independent of the other systems currently installed. You can buy the circuit strip with the fuses already installed to the individual circuits. DanC

  13. Welcome to the site and also to owning a Venture. That is a real nice color combination for sure. Beautiful Bike!! I think that you will learn to really enjoy reading all the articles concerning your bike and making comments on the site. Everyone is very helpful and full of different ideas and etc. Learning a lot from the site. Several places to get accessories is Billet ,:banana:J.C Whitney and also Yamaha. I will get you these sites and pass them on to you. ok. Again welcome to the site and I know that you enjoy your Venture. DanC

  14. Am I missing something here. Why is all the talk about adding a fuel conditioner to the fuel. I have a 2008 venture and have never had to treat the fuel system as of yet with no problems. Is there something about the venture carbs that I am missing that they need to have the treatment added to the fuel system all the time? I feel as though I am missing something in this area and would appreciate someone setting me straight on this matter. I for the life of me can not understand what is the problem?? It is interesting reading all the articles concerning this subject to the point that people are making their own mixtures. I got to be missing something.:witch_brew:thanks in advance. DanC

  15. I finally received my carbtune that was Ordered on Dec 13th 2010. Been waiting a long time to get it. Sean, Morgan Company, also stated that he sent me a replacement item on the 17th of January 2011. Today I received the December's order. I wrote to Sean immediately to let him know that I received the item from the December's order. I then open the paper wraping to find that one of the pins where the air line hooks into was "broke OFF" the carbtune. So I send a photo of the broken pin to the Morgan company ie: Sean and I am waiting for a reply. I am going to recommend better packing as it was only in the storage case that I ordered with the Carbtune tool. It was wrapped in very light plastic paper. There was some bubble wrap on the top of the pins but not enough to protect it from the two month journey to my place of residence. I am glad to see that others are getting their's and that it arrived in good order. So for all that have the carbtune I would recommend that a little more bubble wrap surround the four pins when you put it in the carrying case for protection. They will break off!!! DanC:bang head:

  16. about 3 weeks ago i came down with terrible gout attack. this attack went from my right foot to both knees then both ankles. my sister came in one day to check in on me. and i was leaning slumped over my walker. she could not wake me. ambulance and emt arrived emt.s had a hard time waking me . ambulance attendent placed me on the gurney. while laying flat i came too.. so this is what they found. after 2 weeks in the hospitial.

#1 gout caused an infection in my right kidney causeing it to shut down. had 3 pints of blood put into me. infection made me pee blood.

#2 reduced my blood preasure meds because while sitting i would drop down to 85/60. and would pass out. standing would rush it back up to 190/120. again i would just pass out. now with adjustment in meds im at 135/90 not great but under controll and no passing out.#3 this all caused an attack to my leggs most likely MS flair up? i can no longer hold myself up. i have trouble walking. im useing a walker and takeing baby steps.

pain shoots down both legs. so i will be seeing a pain management doctor. then some kind of doctor who will work on the back and do some kind of nerve block? then back injections. i cant drive my car as i cant feel the foot controlls. i have PT 2 times a day at home. and food brought in as i cant even stand up long enough to make something. i cant get into my shower. so its sit on a comode. inside a plastic tub. and do a wash down by the kitchen sink. the PT nurse will empty it when she comes. so that,s how im doing. weak a little scared. but determend to beat this attack back into admission.

Sorry to hear about the problems your having at this time. Like others have advised, do not give up, take you meds and listen to your doctors. Our prayers go out to you for a speedy recovery. DanC

Yes, I also ordered a carbtune from them and it was shipped out on Dec 14th 2010. It has yet to arrive!! I keep sending them e-mails concerning me not getting the unit and so after 30 days they re-sent me another one by "international sign for service" with some type of number, not a tracking number, but one that needs to be signed for. according to them the item has arrived in the states now however I still have not recieved it. The replacement carbtune was sent out on the 17th of January. Still waiting for either of them to arrive. I will return the additional one if I do recieve two carbtunes. The packages are being held up somewhere because of the possible bomb threat. DanC:dancefool:
  18. Hello

I hope Anyone can help me...

My Battery from my 2002 Yamaha Midnight Venture is draining, after 3 days the battery is to low to start the bike....I first thought it was the battery , so I replaced it for a new one ..but I still have the same problem.

I put the Multimeter behind ..and it looks like, I have a drain of 0.18 Amp.

Does Anyone have any idea's what it can be ?

    thank you

It could be the battery itself with an internal short circuit which slowly drains the battery. :cool10:
  19. I would run an external positive line and ground directly from the battery outside the bike and attempt to operate the light with direct power. Elimiate whether the problem in the ground circuit or the positive side. Then you can check back by opening the orginal circuit and using the test voltage directly from the battery. This test WILL lead you to the problem. Just because one has 13.5 volts does not mean that you have current. Current equals Voltage over resistance. Sorry but I have years of electronic schools behind me so if I get to far out there please forgive me. :confused24::dancefool:Hope that this helps. DanC

  20. :Im not listening toI am somewhat embarrassed to ask this question but I have all you members out there that could help me with this problem. I bought the Yamaha Light covers for the running lights and the headlight. I installed the running lights with no problem. I took the bolt off of the headlight thinking that the chrome ring would come off but its refusing to come off the cowling. My question is, do I have to remove the complete front cowling to get the chrome cover off so as I can lock the visor in place?? I have a maintenance manual and it does not cover anything about removing the front chrome covering on the headlight. My owners manual also does not cover this area. Thanks in advance. :bawling: Dan

  21. I found some real nice red running lights with chrome at the truck stop in Balwin, Fl. I then made a metal bracket to go on both sides:dancefool: of the license plate. The brackets mount to the screws that hold the license plate. I then drilled holes in the bracket and mounted the red running lights to each side of the license plate. It really increased the red lights from the rear and was very inexpensive to install. Ofcourse I had to hook up the electric to the lights which was right there in the rear of the bike. Several of my friends really liked the hookup and so Iinstalled them on there respective bike. "Not all Ventures", forgive me!! ha ha . I am attaching some pictures of the rear lights installed. Any questions please let me know. Hope it helps someone out there. If the photo does not come in with this post let me know and I will e-mail the photos to you. :dancefool:Dan4852@aol.com DanC
