  1. You beat me to it,welcome back and thanks again for hosting in my absence.

QUOTE=Dokon;1016657]Missy and I made it home safe. TC and Patty did too. Found the payment button and boom!!! It worked. So I am back and this post is a little late. Glad everyone made it home safe.

  2. Your words are very kind and I thank you for them as for the cabin selection, those seem to be the only ones available when I make the reservation! I don't pick it for its location. After what happened this year, no more !!!

    Lewis,

The first thing I want to say is:

    1. Vogel would not be the same without you. You are Mr. DRAGONRIDER, VOGEL IT's for the kids, St Jude.

    2. Your involvementy, hard work, tireless efforts, commitment, sense of purpose and sense of urgency for Saint Judes, have made Vogel a chapter in my life that I would not change for anything. I'm sure the rest who have been a part of the eight Vogels feel the same way. Your presence this year put the event over the top. It would not be the same without you.

    3. While I appreciate all that you have done the fact that this year seemed more of a relaxed gathering then a major production made it a little more relaxing and enjoyable. IMHO

    4. In spite of Bubba, to me you have always been and were again this year quite entertaining.

    5. You've done your part, others that look forward to Vogel continuing will pick up the torch. Thank you Dana and Missy, moving forward I'll help to keep the event alive.

I HAD A BLAST AND REALLY NEEDED AND ENJOYED THE WEEKEND.

I have just one criticism. Who keeps picking the base camp cabin in the steepest part of the park? Wouldn't one in the flatter areas be more bike friendly. My convertible doesn't mind but that was a lot of work picking up all those fallen over bikes.:-) :-) :-)

  3. Something strange was happening at Vogel this year, names will not be mentioned to protect the innocent. It seems that the cabin that was occupied by several VR members had a jinx on it this year. All three riders staying in that cabin had some problem while there. It all started on the ride to the Dragon, one of the members on that ride had a small mishap when trying to avoid a house trailer being moved. The flagman would not let him pull up to a safe spot to pull over and was forced to try to stop in some deep gravel and this caused him to drop the bike and eject his poor wife to the ground, no damage done to the wife or the bike. This was just the beginning of the weird. While another VR member of that cabin was trying to park at the cabin in the park, this very experienced rider dropped his bike causing very minor damage to his bike, and also his leg when it came into contact with some part of the bike as it went over and he was stepping off, his leg swelled up like a cantaloupe and had to be iced for a period of time. Then all sorts little gremlins started popping up on his bike, wouldnt start, no headlight, loss of electrical to the entire bike. On Sunday this same member was visiting the campground before departing and gremlins showed up again, no power, bike would shut down immediately after trying to start, got that sorted out, and here comes another one, no clutch, all of a sudden no fluid in resv. for the clutch, find some brake fluid, bleed brakes and back to normal.

Then we hear that the 3rd party in the cabin dropped his bike trying to leave the cabin and needed help in righting his now blemished bike. So if you ever make it to Vogel for another event or visit on your own, stay away from cabin 30 that sucker is jinxed to hell and back. Sorry but pictures and names were not provided to protect the victims.

  4. This years Vogel was far too short for me, just a little over 24 hours since I went up yesterday and left this morning to head home. Had an awesome time thanks to Dana, Missy handling the chores in my absence and I am truly thankful for them doing so. It was the first Vogel that I wasnt running around like a chicken with my head cut off, thanks to Dana and a surprise Visit from BUBBA, I laughed so hard my face hurt for a few hours. I finally go to enjoy the entertainment instead of being the entertainment. The gathering was small but we still had an awesome time. We raised a nice little sum of money considering we only had 15 people in attendance, they were very generous with their wallets to help the "Kids" at St. Jude. My hats off to all who attended and made me feel like a guest instead of a host. Dana and Missy did an awesome job and deserve a great atta-boy for their efforts, but of course when we went riding he passed the lead over to me and wouldnt let me just ride and enjoy, but I did enjoy anyway. Dont know when and if the next Vogel will be, but it will be very informal and relaxed..

  5. Kinda wish I still had my V Star 1300, great bike, really do miss it.

The VStar 950 Tourer rode off into the sunset to a new home today. Gentleman is getting back into riding after raising his family came today and bought her.

Sniff...she was a great ride. If anyone ever wants to know about a smaller Yamaha (640lbs) that is easy to ride, dependable as usual and gets 50mpg's on the freeway at 75mph....I can recommend a VStar 950 Tourer or 1300 Tourer.

  6. Dana and Missy might be at the cabin naping, they were in Helen at lunchtime. They are in cabin 30, right down from where we were last time. Enjoy, might see you on Sat. if your still there.

I'm in and have my site set up. Haven't seen anybody yet. Maybe it's time for a 🍻 and a nap!
  7. Here are the contact numbers for Dana and Missy, this years host for Vogel.

    Dana.........1 919 656 8508

    Missy........1 919 656 2786

You can contact them at these two cell numbers. If Dana doesn't answer, Missy will. They will be staying in cabin 30.

I think this is a good idea. I started the first ICE (In Case of Emergency) list at the first Asheville Rally due to a wreak and misunderstandings at the prior Vogal. Fortunately, we have not had another crash, but we did have a breakdown at Asheville and the list came in handy.

  8. Check in will be located on the front porch of the Office/Store. Dana and Missy should be there sometime between noon and 2 pm on Wed. If they are not there when you arrive check at cabin 30.

Hope everyone has a great time, Charlene and I might be able to come up on Sat morning with Paula and Jamie. Be safe and enjoy, and remember "Its all about the Kids".

Due to Charlene's slower than expected rehab from her hip replacement surgery, we sadly will not be able to host Vogel/Tail of the Dragon this year, but Vogel will still be happening without us, as I knew one day if would likely happen. Taking mine and Charlene's place are two very special VR members, they have helped us out every time they come and honestly I don't know if we could have done it without their help. Dana aka Dokon, and his wife Missy will be filling in for us. I know it is in good hands.

It would be of great help to us if you could respond to this posting as to whether you will be coming, so we can get a handle on a couple of items. One being the usual Sat. cook out and meal at the shelter. Not knowing how many people to cater for is a major obstacle, so it could be a cookout with everyone pitching in for food to be purchased and then cooked at the shelter, or if not it could be another group lunch somewhere in Blairsville. It going to be up to the attendee's on which direction to go.

There will still be door prizes given out if everyone brings an item valued at between $20-$25.00. There will not be a registration when you arrive, just a sign in sheet showing your name and home town. I will also be sending a Morgan Carb Tune to be used for a raffle. There will also be t-shirts available for a donation of $20.00 or more, and some will be used as door prizes also.

Please, if you plan on going to Vogel, please respond to this thread to let us know how many are in your party.

  10. Thanks Woody, taking it one day at a time, and I have a new nickname now, Lewie the home maker....."LOL!!

Lewis we are still praying for you both and hoping to see you at Vogel, take care of her and

spoil her just a little bit seems to work for Katrina. :080402gudl_prv:

  11. Thanks for asking Woody, recovery is going slow, she seemed to do better with her first hip replacement 7 years ago, not going so well this time, she has had a couple of setbacks, like a UTI, that wouldnt go away, incision got a little infection in it, and pt is quite an effort for her. she can get around fairly well but not for long periods of time, we thought she might have had a blood clot in her lungs but that came back as all clear, next week has to go to the cardiologist for a series of test, including wearing a heart monitor for a month, so Vogel is still up in the air for us. I hope us being there doesnt stop others from going to a great area to ride and gather. Its going to be a last minute decision for us to go or not. Right now, not looking very good, but things can turn around quickly, I hope.

Lewis how is Charlene doing? still hoping to see yawl at Vogel
  12. As I had stated in earlier post, I wasnt sure if Charlene and I would be making it to Vogel this year because of her impending hip replacement surgery. Surgery is next week, if all goes well at the meeting with the surgeon today. That would give her 6 weeks of recovery time, her last hip replacement went extremely well and she bounced back very quickly, so if this surgeon is as good as the last one at Emory Ortho., we should be able to make it Keep her in your prayers for a swift and full recovery. Thanks in advance for you support of us and the "Kids" at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

  13. :worthless:!!!!!!!

Old Walt made it all the way from Calgary to Phoenix.....2518km door to door.....that is 1565 miles for those non-metric people out there. All went well, but the last 100 miles in the AZ Desert were the hardest. I think the heat got to my TCI as I lost a cylinder at low RPM just 30 minutes from hitting the finish line (will be investigating the cause tomorrow).....thank goodness for my cooling vest and good riding gear, and of course superb MKII engineering from Mother Yamaha. That bike eats the miles!

Stay safe out there CMCOFFEY, and all those other "crazy members" that ride in the heat!

  14. I put one on my V Star 1300 and mounted an aftermarket trunk to it and it worked great, Wompus makes a great aftermarket rack and easy as pie to install.

Hello Fellow RSTD riders. I mounted a Wompus Rack and aftermarket trunk to my 05 RSTD last night. Installation was quite simple. I have not had time to ride yet and need my wife to pass judgement on the comfortability. I will let you know what my thoughts are in a day or so. Ride safe!!!

  15. Wow.....you guys never cease to amaze me. I will keep everyone informed of our plans and you and Randy's options!!!

Hey Lewis sorry to hear Charlene is having a hard time and you both will be in our thoughts and prayers.

I have already changed that vacation once so I think I'll be at Vogel and I will have the hospitality tent set up for any body that shows up.

  16. Ok, this is one post I hate having to make, but due to my wifes mobility, there is a 50/50 chance that we might have to cancel Vogel this year. She is going in for 2 MRI's next week then a follow up with the orthopedic surgeon to find out if her other hip is going to need to be replaced. She is in a lot of pain which is worse that the other hip when it went out, she is hobbling around in pain and the meds dont help too much. Even if she doesnt have the surgery before Aug, which I hope is not the case, her making it up to Vogel would be very hard on her. So please keep her in your prayers for now and as soon as we know something I will make the final decision. If we do cancel it should be in enough time for everyone to cancel any reservations they have made.

  17. I had a crash on my hard drive on my laptop, and since I replaced the hard drive with a new one, I am unable to reinstall of XP from the backup copies that came with the computer. Looking for an original copy to do the install. Does anyone have one laying around that I could use or buy. My IT son in law doesn't have one and he installed another operating system on my laptop but I hate it. I want XP back.
