  1. IWatch some of the private campgrounds, Many have a "no motorcycles" rule due to many of the rude no muffler crowd that party all night ruining it for the rest of us.

     

    I just wish I could find a used motorcycle camper though, for some of the longer trips :)

     

    At least one "no motorcycle" campground here in Wisconsin, Wilderness Campground in Montello WI. They will allow motorcyclists to camp there, but in a separate area well away from the main campground, and you have to carry your stuff in. A couple of years ago we were reserving two campsites for ourselves and our daugther's family at Wilderness for a holiday weekend. They would be using their large popup and us our Bunkhouse. As the campground owner was completing the reservation she asked what type of campers we had...I told her what our daughter's camper was and then told them what our camper was and 'that we towed it with a motorcycle.' The campground owner then said we couldn't camp in that part of the campground. I was nice and said we just wanted to enjoy the weekend with a grandkids, we'd park our bike in the outside parking lot and have our son-in-law tow our camper in to our spot next to theirs. I was then rudely told, "sorry, but you and your wife will have to camp in the motorcyclist only area! No exceptions". I told her that once we parked the bike outside and had our son-in-law tow our camper in we were just like anyone else in the campground...her answer back was "sorry, no exceptions, motorcyclists (she didn't say motorcycles, she said motorcyclists) are not allowed in the main campground."

  2. Cathy and I are pretty much out camping somewhere every weekend from early May into October. I keep saying I'm going to charge admission to show people at the campgrounds our Bunkhouse camper :happy65:.

    5/24 - Group(s) ride to Door County .. breakfast stop, east side of Door County (AM), lunch, west side of Door County (PM), stop at one or two of the local vineyards, and a stop at the Wisconsin Motorcycle Memorial .. ride back to Suamico

    5/25 - Breakfast

    We've got enough space to squeeze in quite a few campers and tents. County Inn and Suites once exit south (Lineville Road) in Suamico.

     

    Yes, this is an official Ride-In for another organization...however, this is my personal invite to my friends on this site who live in Wisconsin (or other midwest states) who might want to join us...either for the weekend, or just the maintenance day, or for the ride on Sunday.

  4. Hmmm...equal riders? I guess I'd have to say a 1st Gen! But hmmmmmmm...I haven't seen a lot of 2d Gens have problems keeping up with 1st Gens ;)....but I have seen a few 1st Gens that haven't been able to keep up with some 2d Gens. Okay, the butterflys are now flying in formation.......

    +1 Definitely check the cables....I've seen several over the years were the CB antenna was correctly installed on the right side.

  7. I thought about getting out today, but had to get ready for business trip to Atlanta...flying out in the morning.

     

    I'm hoping the weather warms up a little, I need to get the FJR in to Team Motorsports to have the ignition switch replaced (warranty). Maybe next weekend.

     

    Like I said, hope it starts warming up pretty soon. The Flood Run is just four weeks away :thumbsup2:

Seems to vary by where you're at in the country...the guys back east say the Ethenol is tearing up their bikes and cars, but here in the upper midwest we're almost completely at minimum 10% Ethenol, and myself personally I've not had any problems with any of my bikes or cars. In fact, I ran E20 (20% Ethenol) exclusively in my last CTS with no problems at all and no difference in gas mileage over E10.

     

    So like anything else, you're going to get a wide variation of opinions. IMO, E10 is okay, E20 might be a stretch for the bikes (however for out of town trips, I always fill the first tank with E20 from my local RENEW station and no problems).

    I hear what you're saying and you make a great point...but here's why I stayed with the plugged tire. We ran over something on the freeway on the way to a ride-in...tried to get a new tire and two dealers on the way didn't have the right size. The plugged tire was holding air fine, and the plug was right in the center of the tread.

     

    Since we were already 200 miles from home I wasn't going to let the plugged tire ruin our weekend. I checked the pressure several times and then rode the bike like tire was new. We're talking freeways, we're talking twisties, we're talking gravel roads, etc. Put another 350 miles on before making the 200 mile plus ride home.

     

    Continued with that tire through the summer, with numerous camping trips throughout the state with the Bunkhouse in tow. A trip from NE WI to Iowa for Davis and back home with camper in tow. And then a ride from NE WI to NW Arkansas and back with the Bushtec in tow. Time on the freeway, time in the twisties.

     

    Safety is paramount, but once I had my comfort level that the tire was okay I continued to use the tire. Now did I buy another tire...yep, brand new E3 was in the garage 2 weeks after the initial incident. New E3 is still in the garage.

    May 22-25 - Memorial Day Weekend, hosting a ride-in at our place, group ride up to and around Door County, maintenance day on Sunday

    May 30-31- oldest granddaughter's HS graduation in Lincoln IL

     

    June -might roll the FJR into Freebird's driveway...good practice for the SaddleSore 1000 later in the month

    June 11-14 - Get Goosed, LaCrosse WI

    June 20-21 or June 27-28 - SaddleSore 1000, Eau Claire WI to some point west, then some point north, to some point east, back to Eau Claire

     

    July 5-12 - Spearfish SD Ride-In (Tentative)

    Rest of July open, but if no Spearfish, then either east to New England for a week, or south to the Smokies for a week

     

    August - Ride-In at the Bryden Rustic Campground, Ripon WI

     

    September - Labor Day Weekend, camping somewhere in WI, MI, or MN

    September 10-13 - Davis Rally, New Hampton IA

    September 17-20 - FJR CFO Rally, LaCrosse WI

    September 25-27 - OctoberFest, LaCrosse WI

     

    October, first or second weekend - Apple Orchard Ride-In, Richland Center WI

     

    Will fill the rest of the summer weekends with either camping trips within a couple hundred miles of home, northern WI or the UP, or another 1 or 2 LD rides on the FJR .. may squeeze a quick weekend in for a ride down to MO and some neat roads I found in the Mark Twain National Forest

  12. "Data Perfect" ... close cousin to ENABLE, which was DOS based, but a very powerful integrated database, spreadsheet, word processor, and communication program. Microsoft bought them out mid-90s to take competition away from MS Office. During my final years on active duty, my boss and I built a system using ENABLE to manage our office .. budget, flying time, training budget for CAP, CAP drug surveillance flights, CAP search mission reimbursement, travel, all expenses, awards, cadet training, etc. Data in once...did everything else including generating the monthly and annual reports. My boss and I won an award from ENABLE for what we did...got a letter about a year later from Microsoft and their lawyers asking for all our code...we both refused...told MS the basis for what we did was in the award application we submitted and they could go there. Never heard anymore from MS.

  13. Two currently, an 06 RSV and 07 FJR. I've had two bikes pretty much since 99; with a couple of times three in there. I'd like to add a third bike again, but more for something to work on than necessarily ride...fix or built it, ride it a little, then sell it.

     

    RSV is technically my wife's bike...I just operate it for her pleasure. She likes her "pleasure", so it gets ridden a lot and it's the only bike of the two I have set up for towing our cargo trailer or camper...and she likes to camp a lot too!

     

    FJR is my bike...I like sport bikes, but I also like having the hard bags, shaft drive, and a little larger bike.

  15. Curt, you beat me to it. This has got to be one of the best reads on traveling around the country. I have at least one hard back copy and a couple of paperback copies laying around somewhere.

    I should know most of it by memory by now...I read it cover to cover every couple of years (I've got a tattered paperback I bought back in the late 90s when I was on an AF TDY). It sits on a bookshelf in my basement....if I'm looking for something else, I almost always end up picking it up and reading a chapter or two :). Different style writers, but I do the same thing with my Tony Hillerman books as well.
