  1. How vertically challenged is she? I can ride a RSV flatfooted if it's lowered 1 inch front and rear. My RSTC I can ride stock with no lowering. Add in the fact that I also have a 650 and I'd much rather [and do] ride the RSTC than the 650! I also took care of not having to lower a RSV to fit me by buying myself one that had been triked. So look out! Just because she's short, doesn't mean she can't ride a bigger bike! :happy34:

Good thought, but I'm not too worried because (a) I have both Venture and RSTD and (b) my wife is unusually vertically challenged. Not at all tall. The 650 is about as big as she can reasonably handle. The width of the seating position on the big bikes defeats her inseam length so she can't effectively balance them at a stop.
  2. I always remember Owen's comment as to why he got rid of his VMax, that he could feel his IQ dropping 10 points every time he got on it. I have met a lot of people over the years who's "first bike" was something like a GSXR or even one with a Hayabusa. I also find it interesting that nearly all of them were men. Very few of us "lady riders" are dumb enough to think that we can handle something that big as a first bike. I went up the ladder, ie. 50cc, 500cc, 650cc, my RSTC, and now my RSV. Anyone who starts at the top of that list or larger sizewise, IMHO, get what they've asked for.

left behind a girlfriend with two small kids. His just got the GSXR in December. was a member of the social street racers society. Go figure:doh:
  3. I was shown a pic of the new wheels when I picked up the trike. And it IS Dad's wheels. He was going to trade HER car in on it and make her drive his old car instead of the "new" Beemer. Interesting thing was Dad's first choice was orange and black complete with a Hemi but Mom put her foot down and he settled for the Beemer. :D BTW Patti, think you might find a trailer that would haul both the Beemer and a Benz??

I like all these names!!! Too bad it ain't really mine...oh well... I saw a beautiful Mercedes 2 seater, convertible...hmmmm
  4. Only one problem with a carb swap from any other RS/VR outside of the original RS years ['96 to '01 if memory serves] is that the carbs are different sizes. This is why mine are the least familiar to Squidley as they are 28mm and the VR/RSV/RSTD are either 32 or 34. One of the mods for this bike is a swap with the larger set, but according to Brad, they have to be machined to match up with the TC's set up. So this is not an option for me, so far as I know. I do know that the float gasket for my bike is completely different than the ones they were using Saturday at the MD.

As for my bike being faster with 1st gen parts on it?? :scratchchin: I bought this bike up in my home state of Illinois and rode it home with a small detour to Bogalusa and KBran's MD a few years ago. After a 1400 mile trip? Believe me, this bike is more than fast enough for this lil girl as is!!:bikersmilie:

  5. OK guys, here's the problem. Partly thanks to my spending a fair piece of last year on medical leave, my '96 TC needs it's carbs overhauled [damn gas!]. The Squidley checked it out at the Doodle's MD [on Fri] and said that there was was nothing we could do to it without the rebuild. He was already helping out on two 1st gens that were getting carb work done and said that I needed 4 of the rebuild kits similar to what they were using on the 1st gens. Only one problem. . .

I CAN'T FIND ANY!! :bang head:

The only kit I can find on that for my bike has the float gasket and needle set, nothing else! As my bike probably has the carbs that the Squid is the least familiar with [and for Brad, that's saying something!], I'm trying to put the kits together for him so we can get my bike back to a going concern again. I need a list of all the parts we need for this as I'm probably going to have to buy all 4 sets ala carte as it were. Considering what some of the online Yamaha sources are asking for just the darn o rings. . . . . .

    :mo money: HELP!!

  6. I bought myself a kinda early Xmas present, a Black Ed. GoPro. Anyone interested in these should do some comparison shopping. With the new 3+ editions out in the Black and Silver versions, several outfits are marking the 3 editions down, in some cases quite a bit. I bought mine as one of Amazon's "Today's Deals" for $240! Not bad for something that was originally $400. If you don't have to have the "latest and the greatest", this would do very nicely!

    :mo money:

  7. Joe

Which saddlebags do you have and would you be interested in selling them? I have the same bike and might be interested in taking them off your hands if you care to do so. There are at least 2 different style bags for that bike. Mine are starting to show their age and living under the Texas sun isn't helping.

Send me a PM if you are interested!

    Ok here we go..

I have a 1996 Royal star 1300 XVZ13AT Im not concern about the bags and so on I didnt put them back on my bike after I repainted my bike.

Thanks guys I hope to hear some info...

  8. True, but I'm currently trying to decide between getting one for the RSTC with the 5 pos. vent on it. :icon_smile_question That's about a $70 option so the ole brain is in overdrive.

    :mo money:

Anyone out there who has the vent on a RSTC/TD care to comment? All help gratefully appreciated!!

It's not how much you spend but how much you save ! Get 2 and you saved $60 !!!
  9. I found this posted on FB.

"Clearview Shields is having it's first ever Black Friday Sale. Starts Friday 12 Midnight MST on the 28th till 11:59pm MST on the 29th.

Coupon code is BF30. For One Day Only!! $30 off shield, no accessories are included."

I'm supposed to be receiving an email on this. I am planning on calling them tomorrow to see if the discount applies to their marked down shields and to make sure the starting time is midnight on Thursday night.

OH FUN! One bike for sure [the 650] but both??? HMMMM :scratchchin:

  10. I was reading some old threads on these and thought I'd give them a look see as the carpal in my hands makes riding in cold weather kinda interesting shall we say. I was startled to read that the family that operates the business is retiring and their products are no longer being manufactured. Any stock left is being sold on a first come-first serve basis. So if you're interested, order them NOW! I'm planning on an early Xmas present to myself!

  11. Very first ride on my '96 RS Tour Classic, the precursor to the RSTD, was about 60 miles from the PO's house to my Mum's. Second ride was taking it home from the Mum's in Illinois to just NW of Houston where I live with a "slight" detour to fellow VRO'er Kenny Branton's place in Bogaloosa, La. for a Maintenance Day. Something like 1400 miles, nearly all Interstate riding, on a bike that does NOT have all the bells and whistles [ie cruise!] of it's newer brethren but I had a blast on it. Mustang Solo seat and two duffle bags on the pillon and yours truly was agoing down the highway!

Several members of the Houston VRO gang ride RSTD's and wouldn't ride anything else. At least one, if memory serves, had a RSV and switched to the TD that he likes better. It's all a matter of personal taste. My bike is 17 yrs old but has yet to act like it. These bikes properly taken care of will go on forever. And what this lot on here doesn't know about the Royal Star's isn't worth mentioning.

As for the Road Star, they are great bikes. I've demo ridden them several times over the last several years but I prefer my TC. I'd also prefer a RSV but that will have to wait until I get my trike in a year or two. :mo money:

I don't know about that, and it will always be debated, But I like to interstate cruise on my RSTD. :)
  12. I found this video while clicking on some of the little windows that popped up after the above vid ended. Not a short one, almost 25 minutes, but some VERY interesting stuff including where some of Yamaha's R&D money is going!

BTW I've demoed one of the Piaggio MP3's mentioned, the 250cc version. The 500cc version, according to one friend of mine, who is an absolute sport/race bike speed freak was described by him as being "bad-ass" so I'd say this outfit's review of it is on the money. I've had serious thoughts about getting one, but 3 bikes in this family would definitely be pushing my luck!

Mine are set up so that I can cut off one or both of the mikes each hearing aid has. Sitting in the Sam's Club where I got them, turning off the rear mikes made alot of difference in the background noise level I was dealing with. Sam's Clubs are NOT a quiet place. I had no idea just how much of the noise I was missing until I put the aids on the first time. You might want to check and see if the Costco's are programmable as mine are and see if that helps.

Still looking myself. I tried the Costco over the ears but I could still hear all there back ground nose with them so no go for now. My problem at work we have our meetings and I can not hear them talk very well with all that shop noise going on. as everything goes into ONE EAR. so the back ground noise will cancel out there voice . I thought you could use hearing aids to fix this problem but I guess not. still hoping tho ONE DAY !

    :fingers-crossed-emo

  14. I was at NAPA over the weekend and Sea Foam was on sale for 6.99 They say it is on sale all month. Just an FYI

Just a quick note. The sale price is good at company stores. If the store is a NAPA affiliate store, like the one here in Brenham, they do not have to honor the company's sale price. I found that out the last time they had it on sale.

  15. I've done demo rides on the RT's twice now. I cannot ride the RS's as their seating position puts pressure on my hands and sets off my carpal. Definitely NOT fun trying to ride something you can't hold onto. Last demo ride I did both the RT and the new ST. The problem I have with them is the lateral movement [side to side] as it feels like the seat is kinda rocking sideways. The RTs have adjustable suspension [at least the one I was on did!] and you may be able to tune that out.

Outside of that, I like them. I'm waiting for the opportunity to try the '14 model RT which has a 1300cc engine and a 6 sp tranny while the ST and the RS will keep the 1000cc Rotax engine/5sp they have always had.

And as for the $12-13k [or less] price tags you see on used ones? Those are the RS models, NOT the RT's! The RS seating position is basically the same as a sport bike which is why I think alot of them end up being sold as most people are not into that style of riding. It is also why I think Can Am came up with the ST which has a seating postion much closer to that of the RT so it is more along the lines of a sport tourer than the RS's seating position. I know I do not have the same problems with the seating position on the ST that I have on the RS.

Personally, I'd rather have a RSV trike than the Spyder. It would be far easier to work on than that rolling collection of techno. But it's a case of wait and see. Whether or not the new model of the Spyder would be worth waiting for to find one used [i'm figuring 4 yrs or so for that] or really blow the bank account and buy a new one. I'm also figuring on giving CanAm at least 2 years in any case on the new version so that they have a chance to get all the bugs worked out.

Now if I could just figure out a way to buy B2Dad's trike!:mo money:

  16. I just acquired my first pair ever of over the ear style hearing aids just a couple weeks ago. I took my Mum into a Sam's Club that has the hearing aid lab built into it. While she was getting fitted for hers, I decided to get my hearing checked and found out I was almost as deaf as she was, probably from too many years of plant work plus a lovely case of tinnitus.

I have mine set up with 4 different programs, full on [both mikes active {each one has 2}], front off, back off, and BOTH off. The last one is called Telecoil and will tie into a theatre system if it is set up for it. It is also what the audiologist recommended for use while I was riding the bike. The speaker wires are equipped with little cups on them so they effectively block outside sound. End result I'm effectively wearing earplugs while riding and can reactivate the regular program once I'm off the bike.

Something else. My mother's last pair of hearing aids cost her $8K. At Sam's Club, BOTH her set AND mine with added loss and warranty coverage for 2 years on both sets came to less that $5500!! I'm having all kinds of "FUN" hearing things I didn't even know I was missing! Not all Sams Club have the audio lab yet but they are working on getting them in all of the stores. Ours were done at the Springfield, Illinois store and the guy there, MIKE!, is great and will help you just about any way he can.
