  1. OK Curt, drop and give me 30 ...:rotf: .. You been getting off way to

    easy ...

Just want to say one thing for the New Year ... Happy New Year to all

the good folks on VentureRider, many of whom are also members of

The Venturers MC, and if they are like me, belong to several other

organizations which are bike related or rider related. For whatever reason

you pick one site over another to call home, it makes no difference .. We

are all brothers and sisters in a rider's world and should all join hands to

keep the spirit alive and well ...

So from The Venturers MC to VentureRider

    :bighug:

    HAPPY NEW YEAR

  2. Would like to see what the 460 will do at the 200 meter range.

Should be fun playing at that range ...

    Our Best Present :

We got a new prospective Daughter-in-Law ... My son popped the question

after everything had been opened and exchanged and cleaned up ..

So, looks like we will have a new addition to our family ...

    Merry Christmas all

  3. Had the same problem until I hooked the SAT Audio into my Stereo Amp

and switched it to TV (used the TV input) ,.. Darn near pealed the paint off

the walls and chattered my windows ... Ferfot to turn the amp down .. hahaha .... Sounds great in 7:1 800w surround sound ...

OH YEAH ... What did I get myself for christmas ... A new home and all the bills

    caused by the grandkids ...

  4. OK, here is one for you that may hit the spot ...

Look about halfway down the page and you will see Inventory Supply Analysis.. Might be right up your alley ... Might also take a look at the rest

    of their offerings ..

I know this company very well .. Worked for them for 3 years in Atlanta ..

Good company, and the folks here in Charleston are top flight ... Send

them your resume, tell them I sent you .. hahahaha ... I'm serious ..

Or ... send me your resume .. I know their corporate recruiter ...

  5. Hi Kit ... Next time you are down this way, maybe we can get

together for a shake and greet .... Been here about 4 years after moving

here from Atlanta Area ... I think me and HeyU are about the only members

locally, and he has sold his RSV and gone to a, UUHH, Ultra Classic ...

Still a good guy though ..

  6. Dexx ... Here is a good local place to start your job hunt in the

Charleston SC area ... There is a lot of openings .. Wages are

lower and price of living is higher (IMHO - based on places like Atlanta)

which I know is hard to believe ... Try here:

    http://www.charlestonjobmarket.com/jobs.asp

There are a lot of government contractor's here supporting many

different aspects of National Security, the Navy, USMC, USAF and

the like .. There are always logistics jobs open to take care of the

extreme amount of equipment that passes through .. Also, Charleston

is the 3 largest container movement area in the world, so lots of

logistics, warehouse ..etc .. jobs ...

Will be good getting another Venture rider here .. We only have 4

known Ventures in town ... hahaha ..

Avg apartment rental is around $800 a month for a single bedroom,

$950 for a 2 bedroom (Nice places, not in the slums) .. Gas prices

today are about $2.85 for regular .. Food prices about the same as

    everywhere ...

Lots of things to do if you are into camping, fishing, water sports ..

Seafood is tops here and cheap for the most part ... Roadside vendors

are selling shrimp for about $5.00 a pound ...

Roads are flat and streight for the most part .. No real twisties here on

the coast, but there is still good country riding ... You are about 120

miles from Myrtle Beach and their fine motorcycle turnouts each year ..

Most of the bikes in Charleston fall into two categories .. Harleys and

    crotch rockets ...

Good luck on your job search ... If you need help, feel free to ask ..

  7. Know what you mean ... The new ones are getting really hard to find ..

Amazon.com has some referbs with a 1 yr warranty from Garmin ... Least

they did last week .. Got one for $199 w/remote, referb by Garmin ...

Even the new ones only have a 1yr warranty ..

  8. Alaska cruises are tops .. Our preference is Royal Caribbean .. Inside

passage is tops .. If you can book for the first cruise of the new season,

there will still be snow on the roof tops, cool but not cold and the bugs

    don't eat you alive ...

If you need help planning, my dearest is a travel consultant and would be

more than happy to make your dreams a reality ..

    http://bludolphintravel.com ... Blue Dolphin Travel

  9. Retired at age 39, back in 1983 some time, August I think it was ... Get my

monthly retirement bread which sock away in a IRA CD .. Worked Civil Service

for a while but not long enough to retire again ... Been working Govt

Contractor rest of the time except for a 8 year stretch as IT Director at a

software company which went belly up at 9/11 .. Back to Govt Contracting

(US NAVY). Feels like I never got out, just new stuff to play with .. Soon as

my better half's real estate market gets back on track after this slump, will

probably retire again and then go back to work in real estate or take over her

travel business and let her work real estate .. Haven't decided yet .. Either

would keep me busy between bike rides ..

No Gunny, you are coming to Charlietown and we gonna ride, ride, ride ...

    when we retire ..

  10. Can't remember if the 96 VMax starter fit the 83 or not ... One way to

find out is do a parts match on bikebandit.com and see if the numbers

match between the 83 and 87 .. If they do, then the 96 VMax 4 brush

starter is a direct replacement .. Also, believe the 93VR went with the 4 brush

starter, so there is another parts look up ...

  11. Yeah, after working with the Firestik engineers for the past 5 years on

the MarshallMod project they finally showed me where the 30% loss is ...

I checked what they told me with a certified and calibrated Field strength

meter and they were totally right ... That loss is parallel to the AM/FM

antenna, left to right and not front to rear ... No wonder that ole Firestik

still gives me a good 5 mile range front to rear .. So Don, I apologize in the

fullest extent and ask your forgiveness for my crazy ways .... After being

a communications engineer for the past 42 year, I should have known better.

I see the same thing on dual antenna military systems running 8 - 10 KW

power. Amazing huh ... :starz: ...

Also, the Venice and Rome antenna which are base loaded with the wire

are not really good, because the coil is just big enough to rub against the

top trunk and they are really hard to tune .. Look good though ...

I am not 100% sure Firestik is still distributing them ... Looked at all the

CB distribution site that I know of and could not find them listed at

any of the sites or they were listed as Out Of Stock or Unavailable

For the fold down's, some are sloppy, some are not .. If you

still need the fold down capability, use the Firestik DV-SB wide base,

DV-SBS which has a nice spring or the DV-90 ... There is no slop in these

and are fairly new and work well ... Have tested all three ... My favorite

    is the DV-SB ....

Don aren't you using the Firestik AM/FM 3' whip ?? These worked really

well, sorry they quit making them ...

    +++++++++++++++++++++++

    PS

I just finished testing the Firestik Splitter and it is the best of the 4 - 5

other splitter systems I have seen, including the OEM 1g splitter ... There

is virtually no power loss on this splitter like on the OEM splitter ... So,

if you 1g guys need a splitter, this one works really well ...

  12. For those who would like to go to a single antenna on the

RSV or for that matter, would like to get rid of the splitter on

the 1g bikes, yet keep the single whip, may I recommend

    the HyLites TT2C2 AM/FM hidden Antenna ...

    Link

    http://www.ecshylites.citymax.com/page/page/603561.htm

And what it looks like installed on the RSV:

    http://www.ecshylites.citymax.com/page/page/1574644.htm

I personally know both these gents who submitted the install Pictures

and did the write-up ... Butch lives very close and I trust his judgement

on the antenna's performance .. and Ken is also a good friend ...

Both report as good a results as the MarshallMod on the AM/FM side, plus

you can take the AM/FM antenna off. "That ole power robber ... :whistling: ..

    Uh, rite ...

  13. Lets see .. Her bike, her anniversary, her radio ... What the problem .:rotf:

I have installed several of the J&M units this year and no complaints to

date .. The biggest thing is they are not totally water proof so if you give

your bike a shower, make sure you cover the radio and put the caps on the

    6 Pin DIN plug in's ... Notice I said 6 Pin DIN .. Normal Venture is a 5 Pin DIN ..

You will have to order the new 6 Pin lower cable for your headset

    to use with this radio.

Both the 5 Pin and 6 Pin lower are compatible with the newer J&M headsets

that have a split lower cable ...
