I polished the lens for an hour yesterday with Meguiar's PlastX. It helped some, but the pitting was to deep. It had to be sanded and resurfaced to get them looking brand new.
I believe it. Mine aren't 'like new' again, but about 90% better. That was fine for me at the time.

Yes they should have little rubber rings

I have the $ 1 solution.
Plain, old-style white toothpaste. Rub it in with your fingertips. Watch it turn yellow.
Wipe it off, then do it one more time.
Finito.

I have a craftsman extractor set that seems to do the job for me. I think it might be perfect for the job you've described....
I'm a klutz, and these things have saved my butt too, like on my clutch slave cylinder

Lucky you. Sounds like you should just fix it yourself.

Those should work fine, the specifications are correct for the type of setup. They did not list a sensitivity for them online though....
The box lists:
50 watts RMS/100 watts max
4 ohm impedance ( could that be an issue?)
freq response 66 - 20k Hz

What did you use for speakers? I have Pyle and some "roadmaster" ones here and they crank really loud on the stock amp. You might have bought a set that do not have a high sensitivity.
Pyle plx32

I just put new speakers in my 88 Royale, and now I have to turn the volume WAAAY up in order to hear it now.

Yep, but he also does not have to deal with the mercury part of it.

And he made it himself. What price do you put on the sense of accomplishment?

I put lighted toggle switch (end of toggle has small led) on my vr years ago everyone knows these beasts dont like to turn over when hot. Killed it in heavy traffic would not start, too hot! did the tip toe dance down slight hill in first popped clutch gave little gas nothing. went to second gear popped clutch with throttle it started and pulled front wheel for way too long. man changed my shorts after that one. never thought that 1300 could pull front wheel on 900 lb. bike i got turned around back to pick up nav. ( was on side of the road watching the show) her eyes big as cookies.
put the switch on right after that. NO MORE WHEELIES FOR THIS GUY!!!
You need some phat battery cables from LonestarMedic. They make a huge difference.
It's worth changing them just so you can laugh at the stock parts.
My bike had a switch wired into it by the PO. I wish it didn't, cause sometimes I don't notice the temp climbing up in the traffic, and it doesn't take too long to happen.

Looks nice. Someone else here made one with some bottles and hoses, but yours looks smaller, and neater.
I think I'll try yours sometime this summer.

After refreshing my front end with some Progressive springs, new steering head bearings, and removal of the rubber washer the front end is better than it was, but it seems like I can still feel the weight of that giant wheel and tire wiggling away down on the end of the forks.
I'm waiting impatiently to see if the fork brace will make the front end feel acceptable to me.

Makes it much easier to get the wheel back on and also easier to inspect the pads.
And reduces your chances of damaging your rotors during re-installation.

Another alternative is to buy a cheap portable pocket sized FM radio with earbuds. You can tune it to 88.7 or where ever, and pick up your XM signal wirelessly, and amplified. I bought one from Target for about $ 15.

Dang that was frustrating!
Along with replacing brake pads, battery cables, and more I upgraded my clutch spring too. When I went to take a test flight, my lever was locked up too.
I came in, and hunted around here on VR.ORG, finding this thread. I found the dot on the face, and tried lining it up, 180 degrees, etc, etc, and nothing was working. Upon further investigation I started looking at how it operates, and it seemed as though the plunger was somehow stuck in the out position. Once I freed it up, I again tried placing the dot by the marked spot on the plates, and PRESTO! it worked.
Thanks for the knowledge guys.
Thanks Freebird for all your efforts.

That looks like the one that goes to the bottom of the airbox its for the crankcase breather system. Pain in the butt to put on. There a plastic nipple on the bottom of the airbox to put it on. So you have a vacuum leak if thats not put on.
I think you were on the money. I found a nipple on the underside of the airbox that lined up with that hose perfectly.
It was hidden from view by a large bunch of wires. I never would have seen it without you telling me to look up there.
Thanks.

That's how I plan on swapping my springs when they show up.
Sometimes there is merit to reading the included instructions.

I was surprised that I didn't have much difficulty with my spacers. I jacked the bike up from under the engine, so the forks were on full extenstion.

Nuthin?
I went grocery shopping, and even ate some grub. Not even one response. Boo

I have this hose end sticking out of the left hand side of my 88 VR ( California edition. It comes from within the engine's V, and is on off-shoot of a vertical rubber hose. It one of 2 or 3 hoses that come off of it.

That is my finger pointing back towards where the hose comes from.

How many orders are we waiting for?

I dropped mine a few weeks ago. I almost got it picked all the way up, and I lost it again, this time with one foot caught under it.
Thank my lucky stars a guy nearby spotted me, and came over to help.

A Prius with similiar equipment to the Insight will probably sell for about the same price.
You can buy a Prius in the low 20's easily. It's in your best interest to test drive one before you decide.

I recently put some in my 88. There was only one part # available on the Progressive website.

That's what I did. My lower was "almost dry", so I repacked it, and reused it. The top bearing was was beaten, seemingly by the heat. The remnants of grease were hard, and almost black.
