  1. Guess I'll revive an older thread with a question that is somewhat related.

I pulled my tire and had a new one mounted today. When taking the old tire off I noticed the nut on the gear side was fairly loose....okay. I installed the new tire and remounted and noticed if I torqued the nut down it would actually stop the tire from spinning....this seems real strage to me. I had to back it off.

There are no parts missing or left off.

    Is this normal?

  2. can you post a picture of the tire and the gash?

if so, place a coin to give a visual reference to the depth.

that will make it easier for comments to be given.

Me posting a picture is akin to the average person climbing Mt Hood.....if you catch my drift....;)

  3. Sorry for not answering sooner. I have been running.

The "gash" is maybe 1" long. It is on the sidewall proper. It does say 3 ply sidewall.

I can pull the rubber back with a pick but it's real hard to tell exactly how deep it is. 3/16" is my best guess.

I had it on the lift and may just pull the tire to get a real good look at it.

Thanks for the responses. especially fond of the carnage and messy cleanup post. Always entertaining first thing in the morning:moon:

  4. I know I can be annoying at times, but in general I kind of like me, so my answer to that one has to be "yes".

I really (secretly) know that but I keep thinking I can get rid of the wife....but I kinda like me too!:337:

Of course I'm still waitng for the tire expert to say "heck no, it's fine."

I guess I can look at the bright side and get to try the C.T. sitting in my shop a little sooner.....

  5. I had the bike on the lift to do some repairs and noticed a small 3/16" deep slice/gash in the sidewall. of my Elite II.

I recently replaced a virtually new Avon due to a nail that friends convinced me to replace...

    Dang, this is getting old.

It says the sidewall is 3 plies.

Still lots of tread on this sucker.

I know I should probably replace it and be safe but are the wife and I really worth the expense?:buttkick:

    I'm in a dither with this......thoughts!

  6. I will see if any interest in making this an annual 4 day Mini Rally..there is just too much too see and do on a weekend trip. Mid November is about the best time to visit, cool mornings, upper 40s, highs in upper 60s,low 70s. If you are interested in riding out there I do it several times thru out the year but as I say IF there is interest I will start work on a yearly meet. Brian Mentioned earlier about Sturgis before the Sturgis rally BUT its just too far for alot of our folks here in Texas where Big Bend can be done easily in a days ride. ALL comments WELCOME AND this would hopefully draw in a few of our Canadian friends that want one last ride before "Winterizing" Tom

Ohhh, our youngest will be off to college and we will be free birds....

I agree with at least 4 days. There is a lot to see and do.

    Really a cool place.

Thanks for your efforts Tom, I for one will be watching and planning.

  7. I sure would be interested in a trip out there? Any thoughts on possible dates?

I have hiked and biked out there a number of times and always find the area fascinating.

The wife has missed all previous trips but seems eager to make one soon.

We sure would consider a trip out there!!

  8. Give a buzz if you get close to my area Blanco,Tx..Doorway to the hill country..We will be getting ready for our Texas Meet in Big Bend but will be at the house from about 2PM on Thursday till early Friday AM. Tom

I'll be darned. We did travel right through Blanco and down the River Road towards Lukenbach. Will keep a visit in mind for the next trip.

  9. I couldn't find anything on this in the searches I did....so here goes.

I have noticed at slow speeds where my steering lightly locks. It is in the straight position and is a noticeable "slot" where it requires more pressure to turn it. It is getting to be annoying at slow speeds. Took a weekend trip and it seemed worse this past weekend.

I have tightened the steering head a while back and the bounce when it's in the air is still on the loose side.

    Any info would be appreciated.
