Duke, what is the final plan/agenda for this road trip? I am actually in town for the next few weeks and I planned to ride this weekend. As it stands, we had intentions on riding South to Green Bank WVa to see the big telescope, however, Front Royal might be an option or somewhere along the way if you guys are headed south. Let me know. Thanks.

I've been changing oil twice a year with about 1000 miles between. Last year I changed the oil and put in amsoil with the MotorKote additive. The whine became unbearable at 55-60 mph so I dumped it out and put mobile 1 back in. Now the whine is guaranteed to show up at 55mph and yesterday a chirp showed up.
Tomorrow I'm going to change oil again and this time I'm going to put Mobile 1 20w50 in it. It's really getting aggravating when people on the street stare at you and I know I'm not THAT unattractive, nor is my Venture.
If anybody has any theories on this I sure would be willing to try them. I haven't bought the oil yet but I will tomorrow.

Make sure you know what you are putting in the bike. I have used this in the Venture since I bought the bike with no issues at all:

I used their shields on both of my Harley's. It's a husband/wife team. Really nice people. She will answer the phone and he will do the work cutting the shield to spec. Prices are about the best you can find for a HD replacement shield. Quality is good too. I never asked them about doing one for my Venture but it would be worth asking.

I currently have an 07 blue / black Venture. I've been tossing around the idea of changing the color to Sunkist Orange. When I was a teen, one of my friends painted their Sportster that color.
Can the dash be painted on the Venture?

I have the wood grain insert from Yamaha on my dash and really likes the way it makes it stand out....That really looks good against the black. I doubt it would look good against the blue.I am thinking of painting the entire bike orange, not just the dash. I guess I should have been more specific.
OH, for some reason I was thinking you was talking about just the dash, but I do like the burnt orange color. And yes, the wood grain really brings out the dash on the Midnights....

I ride around bear foot sometimes in town.
Very interesting; not entirely familiar with that method. Have you ever tried to ride barefoot?

You will need 4 total bolts; two hex heads that go through the deep holes on the bracket and into the frame on the bike and the other two are for mounting your light bar onto the new bracket.
I used a newer, cleaner, unstripped SS version of the Hex Cap bolts that came with my lights to attach the bracket to the bike and then I went to Home Depot and got a couple of 3/8NC stainless steel bolts with flat washer and lock washers to install the light bar to the bracket! Think the bolts were ¾” long! In your case since the heads of your existing bolts are stripped, they are an easy match replacement.
If you look in the tech section there is a photo layout to install the bracket and light bar!

:bang head:This all brings us back to the original question:bang head:--Should I get a new battery now or wait? I bought the bike in December 2005, it starts like it did when I first got it BUT it is 5 years old.
Buy a new battery. Buy the Deka. You won't be sorry.
Or, you can continue to hem and haw and contemplate and analyze and roll the dice. Maybe you will get lucky and it will last another 3-5 years or perhaps eternity and you will save $60 to $120.

What model Polk speakers are you installing? Do these fit without modification? How much better do they sound?

Yes, the Bass Blockers are also a good idea. $6 a pair from Crutchfield.

I am in the process of installing Polk speakers. For those of you that have done this mod, how did you connect the speakers to the existing speaker wires? Solder etc....

If you are asking this question because you are looking at the existing connectors and then the pins on the speaker itself and you recognize that they are different sizes, then here's what you need to do. As close as possible to the end of the existing connectors on the wires that are presently connected to the existing speakers, you need to snip them and strip them and then crimp on the proper size. Make sure you mark which colored wire came off pos/neg in advance. Then it is just a matter of slipping them on to the new pins on the new speakers, The connectors I bought at Advanced Auto are so damn tight, I had to use small needle nose to help push them on. No solder required. Been this way for quite a while with no connection issues.

Is it me or is this deja vu all over again? Didn't we change to this new version/new look (vBulletin) a couple of years ago because the old one was easily corruptible or something like that and this one was the premier software to avoid whatever problems we were encountering... or am I just imagining things?

I had a similar noise. Exhaustive examination ruling out variable. Turns out, mine was the little plastic silver (chrome looking) cap that clips on to the center of the auxiliary light bar and is supposed to hide the wires and pretty it up. The clips loosen over time and it rattles when you throttle up and at certain rpms. Make sure you check that too.

My parents live on one side of the street and my brother on the other side. I keep a bike out there and ride through/have ridden through that intersection too many times to count. A lot of construction in that area so dump trucks are prevalent. My parents say 8-10 bikes taken down. 5 dead confirmed on local news. Intersection still closed. The flames and smoke made it appear as if a bomb had hit. My brother saw the truck driver being given standard DUI tests on the side of the road. Will update if I know more.

The ETX20L is the battery for the 2nd gens.
The Deka out performs the Odessy in overall performance. It's an outstanding battery. I bought the ETX18L for my 1st gen as did several others here and I think over the last year they have all been happy with them. AGM, 12.8 volt. HEAVY DUTY case. Extra side mounts.
But check the price. Can't beat it for the quality and the realiabilty the battery offers.
Jbo24 is a member here and helped with a lot of information on the batteries in side by side tests as you will see the the first thread.
Check it out. Worth doing.
Oh yeah, and it's American made.

I second the motion on the Deka. Read all prior reviews and analysis and went with it this winter. Changed it out a few weeks ago and would never look back. What a difference in firing right up and keeping a charge. Can't beat the price/performance.

1) my pump has a dc plug that plugs into the dc outlet with a fuse in it. How do you connect it to the battery tender plug?
If someone knows how to connect the air pump to the battery tender leads from the battery I would love to know.
Fairly cheaply you can find a cigarette plug (female receptacle) with other end having the battery tender standard leads.

Yes, on the RSV. Won't take you too long - maybe a couple of hours. It's less than 50 miles. About 1/2 of the way there you will go through Tortilla Flat. Stop and have a bowl of chili and a beer or soda, then some of the prickly pear cactus ice cream next door and take your time to see the quaint stagecoach town. About 5 miles or less past the Flat, the road turns from pavement to natural earth, dirt, gravel, etc. Was rideable (slow and easy) for me on the RSV but wish I had my KTM with me at the time. Very scenic. Stop and take lots of pictures. Enjoy.

Then go try US 191 on the Eastern edge of AZ, along the NM border. It used to be called US 666. They still call it the Devil's Highway. Trust me, you won't forget the ride from (and through) one of the largest copper mines on the planet in Clifton/Morenci up to Alpine. I've ridden them both, and while you might want to check of the box that says "I rode the Dragon" on your personal "to-do list" - it pales in comparison to many of the roads out West.
