  1. Do the toolkits have anything in them that is specific to the bike? If not, couldn't one just go to Harbor Freigt and pick up what you need to carry? Or, buy a kit from another bike. I have to believe that any local bike salvage yard would have many old tool kits.

Or do most people keep their kits when they get rid of the bike?

  2. As far as the joking back and forth, I LOVE it.

This site is soooo entertaining. It always seems to me that you folks all know each other and have been friends for many years. I recently reloaded my pc and probably won't bother with the Delphi Forum any longer, because this site has more info and it seems almost 'homey'.

You folks also seem to bend over backwards to help out. I was surprised to see how many people post their phone #'s and offer road help to others.

  3. I rode my old 99 Vulcan 1500 Classic yesterday. I had sold it to my soon to be son-in-law. I have regretted selliing it to him from the start because I missed it.

Boy do I remember the ride differently then what I experienced yesterday! I was MUCH rougher of a ride, it felt like I was on a 650ish bike - both power and weight. I could almost throw the thing around. Also, the power - My 07 Venture could run circles around it!

Needless to say, I don't miss the old bike any longer. - Only the 'potato-potato' sound.

  4. I figure what I can't sell, I will stick in the attic of the garage - they don't cost me anything to sit.

    craigr,

If you end up with some parts that you cant sell, I would like to ask you to check out the free parts exchange section listed in the tech section.

Anyone who has extra parts laying around can help others out.

    Here is the link:

    VERY good idea!!

I have a couple of parts that have scratches, but still look okay at a distance, ie L mirror & Case Guard.

I will keep that in mind.

  5. I only have the outer skin of the fairing. I am thinking about taking it somewhere and having a mural or flag or ??? painted on it. I have a nephew that is AWSOME at art, but I can't convince him to try my air brush. I'm hoping that he could try something on the fairing.

The rest of the stuff I plan to sell off to try to recoup my deductible.

I don't know about the footpegs yet. the old ones are only scratched some, I may try to find a way to make a 2nd foot position with them, if not, I wil sell them. VERY SMALL scratches, but I'm sure they would rust if left unpolished. Same for the crashguard.

other than the fairing and the lower part of the left saddlebag, they are all very small scratches. I figured I would see what they are going for on the web and undercut it enough to get rid of the stuff quick.

Give me a few days and I will post what I want to sell and the prices. I figure what I can't sell, I will stick in the attic of the garage - they don't cost me anything to sit.

  6. I dropped my 2007 Venture last summer - all the way on the side with both wheels off the ground.

It cost the insurance company 4500 dollars!

I just got the bike back today and she looks wonderful again. I was amazed that the insurance company replaced all scratched parts - fixed nothing. It seems that Yamaha wouldn't release it's paint codes.

So now I have an extra fairing front, Left cowl & Saddle bag & trunk. I even got a new set of highway pegs because you can't buy just the left one. Though the parts are scratched some.

    I'm sure glad for insurance!

  7. That bike is beutiful!!!

They did quite a write-up of it in MotorCycle Cruiser Mag and they called it the 'spawn of the devil'. They spoke VERY highly of it. They said that Momma Yammy was able to increase the CCs and yet keep the engine the same size. I have been waiting for one to appear on a local dealer's floor so I could see one in person. I think it looks MUCH better than the typical crotch rockets that the young ones ride around here.

I too would like to see them put the engine in a 3rd Gen Venture - I wonder if someone could put the engine in a 2nd Gen Venture since it is no bigger??

Congrats on your ride. I too will be anxious to hear some of your stories.

  8. I REALLY don't care for the Vinyl seats / backrests on my 07 Venture. They make me sweat more than Leather did on my previous bikes.

Has anyone here had them recovered with Leather? I am thinking about checking with a few upholsterers here in Omaha to see what they would charge.

    What do you think?

  9. You might not want to give up on the full size trucks.

I have driven trucks for years and the last time I bought, I thought about the Dakota because it wasn't small like the Ranger or S10. I started asking Dakota owners what kind of mileage they got and it wasn't any better than a Full Size - plus they cost almost as much!

I currently drive a 2002 F150 Lariat with a 5.7 (351) and I get an average of 15mpg. My Father has a 2005 Dakota with a V-6 and he gets 16 to 17 mpg. I have more power if I need it and I really like the way mine handles / rides compared with his.

    Just my opinion,

  10. The Ecnomy makes me glad I live in Omaha. Our Economy is BOOMING!

My company has more work than we could hope for and we are looking for several years ouyt!

I hear on the news that the East and West coasts are hurting and I feel for you. I feel very blessed to live where I live and do what I do. (knock of wood).

I hope your situation gets better soon.

Obama will soon be taking over and everyone will be getting the money from those rich folks. So the economy will straighten out by Feb 1st.

  11. The thing in the article that stood out to me was that is would be priced to compete with the H-D Ultra. That says, "Priced WAY too high!" to me.

    What you said!

I find the HD over - priced. And they have the HD name to rely on. Metrics don't seem to have the following that is willing to pay extra just for the name.

After buying a new 2007 last June, I have been anxiious to sit on one and even consider replacing my V4 to return to the 'potato-potato' sound. But after falling in love with my Venture and the more I read about the Voyager, I'm thinking that I will hold on to my Venture for a while.

  12. My original post was a poor attempt a sarcasm.

Now with all of these responses saying that I MUST be joking, how did our country's judicial system get to this sad state of affairs we have right now?

Maybe it's that I hang around the wrong people, but almost every 'normal' person feels like you folks. Yet the minority of people who call themselves 'free thinkers' tend to get the laws passed that get muggers, thieves, murderers, child molesters off without punishment.

  13. But you guys are forgetting about the rights of this innocent victim!

You HAVE to remember, he is still innocent! He should not be punnished by that Dog attacking him! He has yet to be COVICTED of shooting at anyone!

LEOs should not train their 'attack dogs' to go after people that have not been found guilty of wrong doing!

This guy may have come from a background of abuse &/or neglect and doesn't realize that he is doing wrong! We all need to understand that he may be just reaching out for help in this terrible economy, he may have been trying to simply get money for his family = to SURVIVE!

You people should be ashamed of yourselves for applauding this deplorable treatment of a fellow citizen!

  14. I think my beard grew a little just watching that!! (testosterone).

    That is outstanding.

For those of you in the military that get to &/or got to be around that stuff - I am VERY jealous of you.

(I tried to get in twice, but couldn't pass the physical)

  15. Get rid of the heel/toe shifter and you will love the floorboards...

I came from pegs 15years ago, then got back into biking with a 99 Vulcan Classic with Floorboards and the heel/toe shifter.

I embraced both rather quickly. The floorboard vs. peg thing was a large factor in me choosing the Venture over the Goldwing when I bought mine new last June. I couldn't believe that they would put pegs on a 18k bike! I guess I always thought of pegs as a downgrade.

I guess I learned something new, there ARE people that prefer pegs.
