  1. I don't believe Ipad brings anything to the table, except more users.

    Eck,

the ipad makes it convenient to sit on the couch and surf....it also is nice in the car, using wife's smartphone as hotspot. It's easy to use but lacks some functionality that I'm used to on a pc.

  2. The tow company just left with my bike, actually it now belongs to an auction company. i am now officially without a bike :(. But an :2133: was looking over us on 12-13-14 when we totaled it. I can't express how much i've enjoyed and learned from this site over the past 6+ years. i'm torn whether to quit the site or continue to participate. the reason i entertain quitting is that it will be a constant reminder that my riding days are done and quite honestly feel somewhat envious of you all that still ride . i guess i'll just wait and see how it goes. i'm adding several photos of the bike as it was leaving. by looking at the pics the bike doesn't look totaled but the repair price was in excess of $12.5K. Ride safe ya'll.

It just dumbfounds me how that bike could have a 15.5K repair bill.

But then again, I need the plastic piece that goes around the radio on the Miata I just bought and the dealer says it is worth almost $120, even though it only costs about $2 to make.

Stay with up, you can always be used as a bad example. :stickpoke:

    RandyA

Randy yamaha is very proud of their piece parts....front fender, gas tank and two hard bags come to $3900.00. and a bad example i am...

Just because you broke your wheelchair doesn't mean you get discharged from the insane asylum.....
You are right... i may be stupid but i"m not nuts....i think

I believe at least 50% of the "totaled" bikes aren't. I blame LAZY insurance adjusters and inflated, false, cheating labor costs. That said, give yourself time to heal from the spill. Perhaps a lighter bike, or maybe a scooter (they're up to 700cc now) or even a three wheeler. Wish you the best whatever you decide.
In this case i don't think he was lazy....parts are very expensive for this bike. thanks for well wish.

The plastic replacement cost is just astronomical on these bikes. And add about $70-90 bucks an hour to repair things and it dont take long to get to 60% of what a like, kind bike. It sucks for sure.
    You are soooo correct !

Hey Natty,, I totally agree with the comments on here about 15k worth of damage,, I look at that GORGEOUS bike in the back of that tow truck and think to myself how many times I have stuck a 2x4 into frame parts and straightened em out, lopped stickers over broken plastic, slobbered wire feed over exhaust holes, tie wrapped saddlebags bag in place, stitched a seat with dental floss and on and on and I think - shoot man,,, that bike is good for another 300k:missingtooth:

just add a set of:rudolf:and let er buck!!

Seriously,, I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad you folks are ok, YOU DONE BEEN BLESSED - THAT is really all that matters!!

Tell ya one thing though Natty,, you gotta decide for yourself whether or not you wanna stick around here and harass these lop eared varmints but for me,,, even if all this medical stuff that I am going thru ends up dissolving my being able to ride I am STILL not going anywhere!! You, me and all the rest of this family have wayyyy to many stories to read (live thru others eyes) and stories to tell about our biking days, pictures of us geezers wrestling with our grand kids and just plain being a pain in the neck, to EVER leave this joint!! :happy-emoticon:

I personally feel the same way about my VR membership as I do about my pea shooters,, they can have it when they peel it from my cold - dead fingers... :dancefool: (or until these Mod's give me the boot:mugshot:)

No matter what you folks decide to do, no matter where your lifes road leads you, PLEASE always remember and know - you have friends and family here on VR!!:thumbsup2:

    Godspeed

    Puc

Puc if i had to take anyone on a road trip on a bike you would be THAT guy. can't tell you how much i've enjoyed ALL your posts, they are always a great read. you should consider writing a novel on all your experiences...i'll be first to purchase. i agree it would be hard to leave such a great bunch of riding nuts ..err biking dudes.
  3. I am retiring today after 32 years in school transportation. It is actually a lot sadder day then I thought it would be. Hard to leave people you have been working beside for so many years. Will start working for a friend on a part time basis on Monday. Will be able to ride a lot more. Going to spend two weeks in Florida (Ft. Myers) in early March and the wife and I are going to ride the bike down to Key West. May be able to hook up with some of the south Florida riders while were there. I guess I'll end this now, starting to ramble.

Congrats on making it thru the long haul.....one comment on the trip to the Keys....be careful, it's congested and mostly tourist taking in the sights and not paying alot of attention to driving. Taking a bus tour of the island is worth the $$. you'll have a great time while there enjoy !

  5. Flyinfool says....

"Jasper engines have been around a long time and have a good reputation"..... Not true for everyone... It took five (5) Mitsubishi Eclipse engines before we got one that worked. My sons car spent better part of a year in a dealership getting engines swapped....yes Jasper paid for all the labor but that didn't put wheels under my son for all that time. As soon as we got it out of the shop with a working engine we sold it. I believe our situation wasn't typical but unfortunately that is what our experience was !

  6. Well the insurance just left and gave me a check for my totaled '07 RSTD Midnight...it covered about half what i had invested into the bike. considering my wife and i put on about 38K miles over the past 6.5 years, i consider the check fair and equitable. I will place parts in classified if there is any interest. I have complete windscreen assembly (chrome midnight version), complete pillion assembly- both these assembly look brand new, brand new (never installed) left cowling, new "SKYDOC" brake bias kit and EBC double sintered FA 123HH disc pad set. if interested you can PM me or answer this post.

it sure is tough saying goodbye to my bike, she was a trusty and reliable friend, who never once left me stranded....farewell Black Beauty !

  7. Bought my buddies ’56 post back in the 60’s. my first gas refill was memorable, at the gas station I could not find the gas tank, the attendant didn't know where it was either...after asking several other people there, someone went to the rear tail light and opened it.....viola there was the filler cap! Great car with lots of memories.

  8. That's real cool, should help a little getting through the "bike no more" transition. What kind of performance on the MBG? Are they peppy?

It's not two wheels....but it is wind in the hair !

PBJ the MGB isn't very peppy - 1.8L w/ 55hp. Wife & I like driving country/rural roads, typically 35-45 mph. On interstate I'll run 60-70 mph ... 3500-4000 rpm. It's a fun car and we'll continue to pile on the miles with grateful hearts and smiles on our faces. Btw is "PBJ" peanut butter jelly? It's one of my fav's with ice cold milk....

  9. (Gets up to podium)

Thank you real men of this forum who honor their marriages and speak of their wives as cherished ones, and may your examples shine in this world for today's young men who need to see that which is good.

    (steps down)

Naturbar, I hope the insurance is unusually generous and quick to pay you good sir.

    Pbjman,

Nice speech .... I've owned the bike going on 7 years and put approx. 38k miles.....I had a total of $16.5K in it......the settlement is slightly over 50% of that price....so I believe the settlement was fair. Have a great evening and enjoy your time in the saddle....

  10. Cant wrong a brother when he knows its time to change course, THAT IS FOR SURE!!!! Prayers up for both of you as you heal up, please let your wife know our thoughts and prayers are with her as she gets the collar bone taken care of!! Thankfully you folks are in ok shape!!!

Now,, about that 77 MG,,, YEEEEEHAWWWWWWW!!

WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOME :photographing:'s!!!!!!

    Take care Natty

Pucster I'll get a few pics posted soon..... I think :-)
