  1. I am 5'6 also. Have been riding a little less than three years. I got my venture about a year ago. I "gently" laid it down in the driveway a couple of times getting used to it. Here are my top suggestions.

    1. ride like a pro DVD.

    2. Take your riding boots to a good shoe shop and have them add some height to the sole. (I did this and it really helped.)

    3. Learn to use the right combination of both brakes when coming to a stop.

    4. Don't be afraid to make liberal use of the friction zone, especially with U turns and hard right turns from a stop.

    5. Don't be afraid to lean it. In fact, physics demand it at times. (ever hear of going "high side"? Thats from not enough lean.

Good luck, be careful, watch for cagers!!!

  2. Hi all.

Just felt i should toss this out there. A new rider in our club got a voyager kit, rode barely 1000 miles, got her license, and departed for an all day ride with about 200 other bikes.

She is having an 8 hour surgery this Thursday to repair broken wrists, fingers, right arm, replace right shoulder. She has about 40 stitches in her face from the shield on her ff helmet. Numerous other cuts, bruises, etc.

Tell all your trike riding friends, yes, you too can crash. Don't let your guard down just because you have three wheels.

Yall ride safe, and say a prayer for my friend Debbie and her hubby Jerry.

  3. "If I thought they were some sort of a horrible challenge, I think I would recognize I didn't have the skills to be on the roads at all. "

no offense, but here's my opinion.

It takes absolutely no skill at all to get hit with a chunk of retread. For that reason, I also don't spend any more time beside a semi than absolutely necessary. But flying by them in the rain just to get away from them just sounds like a bad idea. If I'm in that big of a hurry, I'll take my truck.

There's already enough crap you can't control out there, regardless of of your "skills". I suck at math, but calculate the distance and the time you would be riding beside the truck with very poor visibility. I'll put that on the list of things I CAN control (by not going there).

Anyway,,, everybody ride safe. and watch for bikes when your in your cages!!!

  4. I've been on the committee for this one...

4th Annual AT&T Motorcycle Run for the Troops.

It's pretty unique. bikers leave from 6 different departure points in Texas and they all meet in Nolanville, down near Ft. Hood.

This year we will have around 150 bikes leaving from the Mansfield American Legion post. Logistics for sure... I am responsible for rounding up escorts as we pass through the towns along the route. I still have a few left to contact and the ride is getting pretty close.

we will have the traveling liberty bell, two live bands, TONS of food, door prizes, auctions, etc, ..... lots of fun, come join us.

    http://www.motorcycle-run-for-the-troops.org for more info.

  5. You're welcome.

For what it's worth, the traveling liberty bell will be on display at the 4th Annual AT&T Motorcycle Run for the Troops. (http://www.motorcycle-run-for-the-troops.org).

It's a fund raiser for some non profit military family support organizations. It gets bigger and better each year.

Riders will be leaving from six different starting points around Texas and meeting in Nolanville, Texas (near Ft. Hood). We expect close to 200 bikes to be leaving the Mansfield start point. It's hard to guesstimate the number that will converge in Nolanville.

At approximately 11am, we will arrive at Kay's Motorcycle Mania in Nolanville and park in reserved parking. The Nolanville Fire department will have the street in front of the venue blocked off and there will be the smell of barbeque brisket rolling through the air, compliments of the CenTex chapter of the Patriot Guard Riders and the Temple Texas Elks Lodge.

At the event, there will be door prizes and auctions, including Motorcycle gear, leather goods, jewelry, gift cards, do-rags, T-shirts, etc. There will be two live bands, guest speakers, a Color Guard from nearby Ft. Hood, and lots of opportunities to shake the hands of some of America's Finest that will be attending the event as our guests.

Last year we raised well over 10K dollars for this fine cause.

Come be a part of something big. You'll never forget it.

    Ride safe.

  6. We all know that riding can dry out your eyes. For those of you that deal with this discomfort, I give you the following Youtube experience.

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7j64VgM8-4][ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7j64VgM8-4]YouTube - Proclaim Liberty - Ring the Liberty Bell![/ame][/url]

If that don't do it for ya, you might want to check your pulse.

    For what it's worth...

  7. i test drove an Ultra Classic and an RSV. I bought the RSV. With the thousands I saved, I found a set of three bag liners (free monogramming) for about 70 bux. (a single side bag liner from yamaha was at least that much.) I'll try to remember the website, but basically, my wife went to yamaha's website and copied exactly the bag item name and googled it.. voila!!

The intercom is pretty much ON all the time, so your mic placement is kind of important. You want to get it as far from wind as possible.

The CB keys up with a button at your left index finger. It blanks out the radio when you key it up. When an incoming CB signal is strong enough to get past your squelch, it blanks out the FM radio output.

It was a lot of bells and whistles to get used to for me. I still rarely use the cruise control. I read somewhere that you only have about 25 cents worth of attention, and sometimes it's just a bit too much sensory overload.

Not sure what kind of helmet you have but I have an Aria and my wife has a Vega, both full face. The earpads are removable on both, and it's almost like they were pre-engineered to accept the little speakers from the J&B Cycles headsets. It was pretty amazing how easy it was to install the headset/microphone in the Aria.

Good luck with whatever you end up with. enjoy it! Ride safe.

  8. Awesome. When I first got my RSV, it definately was a bit intimidating to me. it did feel "top heavy", but I was a pretty new rider also.

If you are a texan, you may want to check out this ride coming up September 20th. It's pretty unique. There are actually 5 different departure points and we are all meeting up in Nolanville Texas (Near Ft. Hood/Killeen). It's a fund raiser for a few different military support organizations.

this is the 4th annual ride, and they keep getting bigger and better every year.

    check it out at http://www.motorcycle-run-for-the-troops.org.

    Everybody ride safe!

  9. I appreciate that. and I'll definately check that out. should be pretty easy to rule out, i wish i'd thought of that yesterday when i was actually out on the bike listening to it. by the way it's an 08 rsv.

and thanks again for the suggestion.

  10. I don't often ride without a full face helmet and the radio blaring. The other day I grabbed my half helmet and headed out to the gas station. Therefore I have no idea if this is a new noise or not, but if i get rolling pretty good (15mph - + ), pull in the clutch close the throttle, I can hear a tapping, clicking sound in the front end.

I got back home and had my wife help me look for nails... nuttin. calibers are good and tight, bike only has like 3K miles on it.

I need to get it up on a lift and spin the tire, bottom line. I don't have the means to order one of Carbon1's lift adaptors at this time. Is there anything I can do with 2x4's or anything in the meantime until i can get an adaptor ordered from Carbon1?

additional info: the ticking sound seems to be in synch with the tire rotation... speeds up and slows down with the speed of the tire rotation.

HANNIBAL, Mo. — A 45-year-old Missouri biker was reportedly killed by two other men when he tried to stop them from attacking a woman by the side of the road.

Rodney Wood was riding his motorcycle when he saw a woman being attacked, a family friend told the Hannibal Courier-Post. He pulled over to try to help, the paper reported.

But when Wood tried to intervene, the unidentified attackers apparently turned on him and killed him, according to the Courier-Post. Wood's body was found early Sunday morning in Hannibal, Mo.

The suspects, who are 21 and 22, were arrested Sunday.

Police have released few other details about the incident.

  12. Man this forum is over the top awesome. Thanks for all the great replys. I will definately keep all the links you sent.

I did finish my engine guard/saddlebag guard replacement this weekend. Wasn't as bad as i was dreading, i guess. I took my time and took pics and lots of notes taking things off the bike. When it came to putting it all back together, it sure made it worth it. things just sort of fell into place.

I decided to just forcibly reshape that plastic cover for now, and was able to make it mount back on. I may replace it one day, but really, it's just a little cosmetic thing now. It's functional as is.

Thanks again for all the replys.

  13. A friend up here who traded his RSTD for a Harley gave me his hardly used Clymer's. It's for 96-03 models, but I think it's gonna be 90% the same as my 08.

I took my time, took lots of pics, and made a lot of notes and managed to gracefully get both engine guards off the bike.

Off to the parts store to get some locktite and zip ties. I'll have a pretty good little step by step when i'm done. I'll be sure and upload it (if i can figure out how to do that).
